  1. Ok, before the next Civil War starts here on the board, let's nip this thing in the bud, ok? We all love the Dukes and we won't stand for posturing on this board as to who loves them more or who has the right to love them more or who can claim them as their own. Sway, don't you understand that by your saying that a Yankee is incapable of "getting" the Dukes, you're giving creedence to the myth that a Southerner isn't smart enough to get "sophisticated" humor or couldn't survive in the big city. Both are simply not true. "Yankees" are capable of "getting" the Dukes. Anybody is. Just as Southerners are able to adapt to big city life. Humans are humans and by nature are an adaptable and understanding species. You're just lucky enough to live in the culture in which the show takes place. Where you are born has no bearing on your intelligence, your understanding, your empathy. That all comes from your upbringing. I was lucky enough to be brought up by a Southerner and I do feel a connection to the South, but I do not claim it as a birthright or anything. I'm sure there are many folks out there that feel a connection to the South. Their feelings are genuine even though they may never be a true "Southerner". Instead of continuing this tirade of "this is mine, hands off", why don't we emphasis our common ground, love of the Dukes and love of the South. Just because someone's not from England doesn't mean they can't enjoy all things English. Just because someone's not a good cook doesn't mean they can't appreciate and understand the love and hard work that goes into good barbecue. Sway, your lack of understanding that OTHER people can understand the South hurts your heritage more than you know. It perpetuates all the bad stereotypes you hate. So why don't you share with us all the great things about your Southern heritage so we can enjoy them too and reinforce all the great things you say about it.
  2. If you like our pension plan, wait til you see our DENTAL plan! MUAHAHAHAHAHA! Deputy Coltrane, have you seen my rusty pliers around here anywhere??
  3. Since the folks makin' the movie are givin' time to the political correctness police, shouldn't they have to give equal time to those who can explain why it's not right to have the General Lee without that flag? It's like a peacock without its feathers. It's like a hotdog without the bun. It's like Wisconsin WITHOUT CHEESE (or brats, or beer)! It's like Snap, without Crackle and Pop. It's like Yin without Yang. It just doesn't work. Perhaps they should give Bri 5 minutes at the beginning of the movie to rant. =)
  4. Did I get here too late to join the genealogy debate? Lesseee here, I'm from Cal-ee-for-NYE-ay, by way of Arkansas (my mama was from there), Kansas, Georgia, ol' Virginny (the half that later became West Virginny), Pennsylvania, Colorado, Iowa, South Dakota, South Carolina, Missour-ah, Scotland, Ireland, England, and all parts in between. I had family fight for the confederates an' some for the union. Now I'm in Washington. So what does that make me? Hell if I know! =) Guess I'm just plain American. But I love the Dukes and I love the values portrayed on the show. And those are the values my parents taught me and I grew up with.
  5. Hey, Darrell. Glad you found us. What took you so long? We've been around for quite a while, as HazzardNet.com since 1998, and before that as The Hazzard County Sheriff's Department website since 1996 (we're workin' on resurrectin' that site, complete with its own domain name). So stay tuned! We're not goin' anywhere. And our goal is to make this place as busy as the Boar's Nest on a Saturday night too!
  6. Howdy! Hope you enjoy your stay here. -Nel
  7. Well, the "Unofficial Companion" is by no means thorough. You could probably fill an encyclopedia with Dukes trivia. =) I'm sure there's someone out there that knows the answer. It's all a matter of trackin' 'em down. You could ask Ben Jones. I think he's kept in touch with a lot of the drivers and crew and they might know. And here's some more trivia, if you've read The Unofficial Companion cover to cover, you'll know that I'm listed in the acknowledgments for addin' a little research to the effort. Enough of tootin' my own horn (it plays Dixie, ya know), I do believe we have a pic or two of Cooter's tow truck on the site. Check the FAQ page. It's probably there. Nel
  8. Good Lord. I leave y'all alone for a little bit and all of a sudden you're all in drag!
