Luke waved good-bye to Enos before turning and kissing Abby on the forehead, drawing the child into his lap thoughtfully staring across the street. he knew that, right now, Bo was telling Cassie about Sara. He wasn't sure if that would be a good thing or not. The last thing Luke Duke wanted was pity. He didn't want reassurances that he'd find another person to love. He just wanted Sara back and that wasn't going to happen. He never talked about her (except on rare occasion to Bo) because when he did, it hurt enough to make him cry... and one thing Luke Duke couldn't stand was to see a grown man cry over what he could do nothing about.

Luke swallowed not meeting her gaze. "My...my folks died..wh-when I was 4." He bit his lip. He never talked about his family to anyone. It was all too painful.

Correction Roger...you could have done what I used to do. I would take my little tape recorder and hold it up to the tv speaker every night. That would make sound recordings of the Dukes (granted sometimes the dogs were barking during a car chase or the phone rang in the middle of Hazzard pond...but still!) I'd put my pillow on top of it and sleep to Dukes playing in my head...learning by osmosis I suppose. Actually, I think I still have my cassette recording of brotherly love around here somewhere...LOL

Luke swallowed hard. "I...I guess...at the beginning."

Luke took a deep breath. "Wanna talk."

Luke meanwhile was drawing shaky breaths. he knew Bo would arrive soon, and he wanted to have accomplished something before he got there. "Sara..."

Luke didn't say anything. He was ahsamed at the way he was acting. And yet, he couldn't stop his tears.

"I...I just..." The tears started coming again. "I just want it to end. Make it stop...please..."

"I...I dunno...how to begin..." faltered Luke softly.

Luke gave Enos a smile before looking back to his daughter who, by now, had succeeded in getting ice cream all over her face. "Abi you sure ain't gonna get no A's in neatness..." He took his handkerchief and dabbed at her mouth. Abi just let him, enjoying the one-on-one attention her daddy gave her.

Luke swallowed hard clenching his trembling hands together but nodding slightly.

"I...I aint sure where they come from...I...I don't know why I feel 'em...I...I just know...know they's there...an...an when they come...it's like...I...I'm in a darke cave" he shuddered. "A cave with no way out."

Luke looked over as Enos asked him that. "Uh...no...at least...I never started," he said feeling a little bad about that. "Abi needed some ice cream an' I come along for moral support..." "An' t' pay for it..." chimed in his blue-eyed daughter. "Yeah...that too."

Soft tears flowed down his cheeks. He was so scared... and he felt more alone than ever.

"Cuz...he's lost all respect for me...an I don't blame him."

"Cuz I done ruined any reason he had to care about me," answered Luke.

Daisy just huggled him close, walking with him. "No," answered Luke in a barely audible whisper.

Daisy turned swallowing hard but nodding wrapping her arm around Bo's waist. Luke shrugged. He didn't know...he wanted to believe him, but at the same time, he knew he wouldn't want to come back to himself, why would Bo wanna come back to him?

Luke choked wanting so badly to believe that Bo would come back, but in his heart he feared that he wouldn't... that he said so just to get Luke to stay. Tears dripped down his cheeks. Daisy stood at the window watching the rain tap lightly against the glass.

Luke and Abi, meanwhile continued to sit under the tree, eating their ice cream and talking. "Daddy?" began the inquisitive 6-year-old. "Yeah?" ""What makes the sky blue?" "God." Of course he knew the answer, but trying to explain light spectrums to her would be like explaining the stock reports to a hen. "Why did God wanna make it blue? Why not pink?" Luke smiled. "Wanted it to match your eyes I suppose." Abi dimpled up at him as she took another spoonful of ice cream. "Daddy?" "Yeah baby-girl?" "I love you." "I love you too."
