Do you have met James Best in person?
Enos Fan replied to DukesFan82's topic in James Best / Rosco P. Coltrane
I'd love to meet him too. Of course, I haven't seen any appearances scheduled for Germany. I have heard from people who have met him that he's a very nice person, and very down to earth. I just think it would be fun, especially if he starts talking like Rosco. -
In the seventh season episode 'Enos and Daisy's Wedding', he has a house in town where the crooks had to break in and hide the money. I don't ever remember seeing his house otherwise. But, that's the only episode that I have where his house is shown. From what I was able to make out of his place, he has a house in town. I think that in season six, there's an episode where Daisy gets into some kind of trouble and Enos brings her to his house to protect her, but the last time I saw any season six episodes was over 20 years ago. So, this is not exactly specifically proven. As for his family, I don't remember hearing or seeing anything about him or his family. I figured that in the wedding episode, his family would come out of the woodwork, but they didn't. Personally, I think this was a weakness in the writing of the episode, simply because of how family oriented DoH is.

Actually, it isn't that that makes me sad, it's that fact that some people are really quick about filing law suits when they buy products that aren't marked to the hilt with disclaimers. I could get on a soapbox about that nonsense, but I'd rather not.

I think that season 7 had some of the more far fetched ideas of the entire show. I loved the episode with Daisy and Enos (that one is to me a classic), but the rest of the episodes seem a bit way out there from my perspective. I think that it's sad that they changed the Italian voices. I hate it when they do that with voiceovers. Most people here can happily stick to the English, but some of us are more accustomed to hearing our native (or in my case, second) language and then having them change the voices is like them changing the actors. It feels very strange and trying to accustom ourselves to the change is odd.

Problem with Season 4 DVD
Enos Fan replied to Lancashire_Lost_Sheep's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
I noticed that they did the double sided discs with seasons 2-5 of what I have. I ordered season 7 from the States, and they aren't double sided. I prefer the discs that are only one sided, but that's just me. Are the DVDs in the US double sided or one sided? I'm flying to Canada later this year, so if I can get season six as one sided DVD then I will probably go that route, even though my husband wants to see the episodes in German. -
Problem with Season 4 DVD
Enos Fan replied to Lancashire_Lost_Sheep's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
I have seasons 1-3 as German releases and 4 & 5 UK releases, and they are all fine. My husband and I have been able to watch 1-3 with no problems. We're now on season 4, but haven't reached the last disc yet. I did start watching some of season 5 episodes and those seem to be doing OK. Sometimes it's not always the discs that are the problem, sometimes it's the players. During the past weekend, I took a movie to my in-laws to play, and the entire bass on the film didn't work, that is, we got only half of the dialogue, and the rest was like reading lips. I thought it was the 'tone' on the disc. Then I checked it on my laptop and it worked fine. I think that sometimes the players have quirks in them that make the discs a bit strange. I do have a little jumping on one of my Quantum Leap discs, which annoys me, but it's on on one episode, so while that disc may be faulty, it wasn't enough to get into a tailspin about. Of course, if the eipisode was my favorite, then I'd be upset. At any rate, my Dukes DVDs seem to be OK, at least up to now. -
I only hope that everyone who attends has a wonderful time. On the DVD that covered Dukesfest, I was surprised to see that someone came from France to experience it. I would love to follow in that fellow's footsteps, but sadly it's not going to happen. Germany is quite the commute, it would be expensive for my husband and I to get there. I do hope that everyone does enjoy it. The thing that saddened me about it is that regular fans lost money through it. The organizers need to know about these things, if for no other reason but to correct the problem. I do know, first hand, about losing out on money and feeling like I've been 'shucked and jived' by a group or promoters. I lost over 100$ last year when I bought tickets to two concerts that didn't even happen. When I went to try and get my money back, the news came down that the promoter filed for bankrupcy and I'm basically I'm out that money. It's discouraging when that sort of thing happens, and I understand people being upset about it, I'm still upset about getting taken for a ride by the group/promoters. So, when it happens in relation to Dukesfest, then yeah, I can understand fans being upset about it, and I can also understand why they vent their grievances here. No one likes to be taken for a ride. I sincerely hope that they manage to give all of you an event to remember and to all of you who are going, have a wonderful experience. Maybe I can swing it in 2008 or 2009. I hope at any rate, but who knows?

Thanks, now everything is clear. I remembered the season, just not the episode. Glad someone was able to clarify it. I really was confused on that. I know that there were copies of the General made where the people used the doors, but on the original, that was a bit odd to see. I had to rewind the DVD several times and even showed my husband, who didn't initially see it. It is a shot that is easy to miss, but somehow I caught it.

It worked! Yeeehaaa! My picture is submitted.

I didn't really remember this until recently, probably after watching Rick play Cletus in the Dukes, but he did a role similar to Cletus' in another of my favorite shows, 'Starman' during the mid 80's. He played a policeman in a small town and was very similar to Cletus except in this he had a girlfriend who was a waitress at one of the local diners. The character's name was Charlie Ewing, and he was sort of treated as the local joke by the guys in town. The sad thing, when I look back on the 'Starman' role and his role with Cletus, there is an element of type casting going on. Of course, his character in both shows was really sweet, and his heart was in the right place. I thought that it was neat to remember that back during the days that TV was really good and that there were shows that evoked quality. At any rate, I think that Rick did do a great job with both of these roles.

On February 8, 1985, I was 14-years-old, a Freshman in high school. I don't remember seeing the original broadcast, but I do look forward to having season seven very soon and can watch the episode. That seems so long ago, though. Hard to believe that today I'm 36 and married. Looking back, it seems kind of strange that now I'm older today than the Duke characters were back when the show was on. Weird how time flies.

At the very top of the screen, I have the Hazzardnet banner. right below that the Hazzardnet Forums bar, with 'Welcome Enos Fan' as you write, but the 'My Photos', 'My Favorites' are on the left with 'Home', 'Search' and 'Profile' on the right side are below it. This red bar is squished between the two different icons that say 'Welcome Enos Fan'. There is no 'Upload Photos' command at all on my account. It could be that regular members don't have that command at all for board safety reasons. Probably the way an administrator can find out is to log out of his/her account and check it as a guest just to make sure it would work. That's my only suggestion. Otherwise, I'm not really sure. For me, there is no command on my computer to 'upload' pictures directly to the site at all. It's not that I'm not seeing it, it's just not there. I checked it with the IE browser, as well as with Firefox, and there isn't any way to do it. What I can do is upload the picture to a photo storage account with a link to the picture through Image Shack and then an administrator or moderator can upload the picture him/herself. That's the only thing I can suggest. Right now I seem to be encountering all sorts of quirks here with this and am rather the 'problem kid' all around.

I'm sorry, but I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to find the link you're referring to and I'm not finding anything. I checked the 'quick links' bit and nada. Then I checked the main page, still nothing. I'm getting quickly discouraged. I know this may sound wrong of me to say so, but shouldn't there at least be some 'ways' to troubleshoot these things? I am pretty adept with V-bullitin, but this is becoming more problematic than anything.

Can you tell us how exactly one can upload an image? I went to the gallery and can't figure it out. Thanks.

Are these contests only limited to 'Photoshop' users or can other programs be used for the pictures? I have never worked with Photoshop, I use Photo Impact from Ulead, have used it for several years now.

I'll be there!

You see, what did I tell you? My Itallian is terrible!!! Oh woe is me! (takes a overly dramatic moment before going back to the topic at hand!) I'll never be able to imitate Eros Ramazzotti again. <g> Oh well, I guess it's no big deal, since I prefer Tiziano Ferro anyway (these are Italian singers, just for those of you reading this and wondering 'who?'). Back to Enos, whom I really do prefer over Eros. He's much cuter!! I think that any Enos stories that people could write would be wonderful. They are not as well received at fanfiction.net, but they are the ones I read with great gusto. There needs to be a new influx of Enos stories, so anyone got any ideas?

I have been a Monkees fan (specifically Peter Tork) since 1986, much longer than I have been a fan of just about anything (well cept Enos of course :: ) I love the show, and there is something in common with both the Monkess and DOH. The midget who played the alien in the season 7 episode of DOH was also in a Monkees episode. It was called 'Monkees at the Circus' and he was one of the performers in the small town circus that was going bust. So there's the missing link, so to speak. The Monkess show was just fun, it had great moments and some of the funniest Marx Brothers like comedy. The goofiness of it was just wonderful and the music was really good (espeically in season 2). I just love that show. Yes, the GTO was a cool car, no question, but I loved the show and have both seasons on DVD. Like those Rosco scenes to get me laughing, the Monkees work just as well at it too.

Who would you be in Hazzard if it were real?
Enos Fan replied to Bill-Duke's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
I would probably be Enos' cousin and would work as a reporter for the Hazzard County Gazette (since in real life I've had newspaper experience). I would be an investigative reporter and would try to uncover Boss Hogg and Rosco's schemes, all the while getting into about as much trouble as the Dukes. Of course, while Rosco, Flash, and Cuz Enos are out watchin' the Dukes, I'd be watchin' them. Of course, I figure that this is where Enos and I'd would have contention; my snooping for scoops could land him in a few pickles with Rosco, as if the poor guy really needs my help with that. Teehee. My name would probably be Yva-Belle or something along that line. Great question. -
I haven't watched the movie and don't really want to. I can't imagine anyone playing Bo and Luke besides John and Tom. Those two gave those characters so much deminsion that I can't imagine some other actors playing the roles. That's my two bits to the question.

Oh, uh, OK. I figured that since it got bumped to the top that it was recent. I guess I'll head back to me old drawing board.

I wouln't worry either. I had a friend who helped me with my German story and it turned out to be pretty good. If you need someone to beta read for you, I'll volunteer. As for other languages, I tried to find out what 'possum on a gumbush' was in German, but it didn't come across very good. In fact, the translation was not all that hot at all. I guess the German translators didn't do a bang up job with that and I listened to it five ro six times and still no dice. Darn!!! How is it in Italian? My Italian is so limited to words like 'Ciau' that it's downright embarrassing. I think you're right about the issue with the show being good with that little 'tension' between the two characters, Val, but still...it is downright disheartening with the whole thing. I never saw the movies. We just got seasons 1-5 of the show on DVD, and I'm working on getting season seven for that Daisy Enos wedding episode. Of course, it bugs the heck outta me that Daisy would leave Enos for this L.B. person, whoever the heck this joker is. Sad...I figured that by the end, Daisy would tie the knot with Enos. What is the matter with that girl???

I think the term I would use is 'hopeful romantic'. Enos is a character that seems to carry the traits of gentleman and friend. I know that he has always cared for Daisy, but that in some sense, she has basically strung him along, sometimes indicating that she cares, and sometimes completely ignoring him. When I was little I was really mad at her for doing that to him. His crush on her was used more often than not, and I found it to be rather sad how the Dukes treated him. It was as though he was only good enough to snooker or to make a fool of. Yet, he was always there to help them if they needed him for information. In writing Enos, I have found something of a romantic in myself, but I have also felt that the romance aspects of the characters here tend to be more realistic than other characters from other shows. Having written a number of fan fiction stories in my day, I have found the romantic aspect fun to write. However, I can also write non-romance stuff, but that's generally not Enos and Daisy. If, for example, I'm writing a story using two characters who never even indicated that they were interested in one another, then the romantic aspects simply wouldn't be there. That is, although I romanticize about Enos and Daisy, I don't do that with all the characters, whether it be DoH stories, or something else. In the case of Enos and Daisy, to me the romance has to be there, simply because it was so evident in the portrayal of the two characters in the show. Some fan fiction writers will pair up people just for the sake of pairing them up. This leads to a lot of writers (particularly younger writers) falling into the entrapment of Mary Sue writing. (For those who don't know what Mary Sue's are, these are stories where generally a writer will create this perfect character love interest to one of the regulars in said fandom. Generally, it is the one that they are hopelessly attracted to.) I don't mean Bo or Luke having a love interest that is an original character, but I mean the general Mary Sue is too perfect, too beautiful, and too available, whereas a realistic orginal character has flaws and faces a realistic human condition. This is generally a character who is well developed and has a defined personality. I think that the Enos & Daisy pairup is a lot more realistic because of the 'implied' interest. I don't know if that necessarily makes me a 'hopeless romantic', but it does show an element of realism in the characters. I cannot write a story where Enos is in love with someone besides Daisy, and I can't stand it when I see Daisy being taken by some other guy besides Enos. Even in the show, it would really bother me when Daisy would be involved with another fellow that wasn't Enos. That was the case even when I was a kid. I think that my liking Enos' character tends to align itself with the concept of 'nice guys finishing last'. I mean; most people, whether they like Enos and Daisy as a pair or not, would say that he is a nice guy. He's shy and timid, which I think is why people have made him out to be stupid. I don't think he's stupid at all, in fact, I think he is very intelligent, but that is underwritten by the interactions he has with the other characters. At the same time, the only real forcefulness in him seems to come about through his job as deputy. He takes that seriously, but it seems as though no one takes him seriously. Having Daisy take his feelings and emotions seriously is, to me, a very fundamental aspect to writing this kind of fiction. On a general scale, I do write some romantic fiction, but I try not to write it to a fault. If I get too involved in writing stories about these particular characters and the become too 'typical', then I will take a step back and evaluate if I've been developing a stereotypical style of writing or not. I hope that answers your question.

Since I'm six hours ahead of Eastern standard time, 7 pm is like 1am here. Maybe you could set up a time during a weekend too. Just a suggestion, though, since I know a lot of people are busy doing other stuff during the weekends.

My name is Yvette (or Yva as people sometimes call me), I'm 36, married, and living with my German husband in a small town near Frankfurt Germany. I have been here since 1995, and love it. I haven't been a DoH fan for years and years like some folks, in fact, I just recently got back into it because I kept hearing about the movie over here. I never was interested in the movie, in fact, never watched it. I guess I couldn't fathom a blonde Daisy, nor could I imagine anyone but the original cast playing the parts. Let's face it Rosco is just one of a kind and James Best is the best. How could there be another Rosco P. Coltrane? At any rate, seeing the placards for it did something, it sparked a new interest in the show and so I gave my husband season 1 for Christmas. He liked it and now we're working on getting the rest of the seasons on DVD. I grew up watching the Dukes and loved it back when I was a little girl. Of course, growing up in Texas would do that to a person. Back then my first school-girl crush was on Enos / Sonny (thus the handle). I guess that's me in a nutshell.
