This week's French Grand Prix saw Ferrari's Charles Leclerc start on pole again, with the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez behind. Charles' team mate, Carlos Sainz, had to start in 19th after penalties for changing engine parts. Lewis Hamilton got a good start from fourth and got past Sergio. For the first third of the race it looked like Charles had the better of Max, with Max having to pit from second. Then, just a couple of laps later, Charles lost the rear end of his car and ended up in the barrier. Carlos made good progress through the field, but had to pit for tires with 10 laps to go. He also picked up a 5-second penalty earlier for an unsafe pit release. In the end it was a relatively easy win for Max, who now has a 63 point lead in the championship. Lewis improved on his last three third place results by finishing in second, and his team mate, George Russell, jumped Sergio after a late virtual safety car to join Lewis on the podium. You can see the race highlights here. Next week it's the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Was an Interesting night in Pocono. Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were far and away the best cars finishing 1 2, at least until Nascar dq'd them for unapproved modification to the front fascia so Chase Elliot won without leading a single lap https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2022/07/24/chase-elliott-wins-nascar-cup-race-at-pocono-raceway/. This is the first time since the 1960's I think that Nascar disqualified a Cup race winner.

  4. I figured that I'd put up a sample of the story to see if anyone would be interested in helping me as a Beta. Any thoughts or suggestions (Even if you aren't interested in being a Beta) are welcomed. **** Coy walked up the old drive that was nearly non-existent after all of these years. Trees had grown up just like he'd known that they would have. If someone hadn't known that a house used to be up this way they would never have found it. Coy picked his way through the thick undergrowth until he finally came across the first remnants of an old burnt out cabin in the woods. His mother had loved living out here. She hadn't wanted to live in a more traditional farmhouse; said that living out here felt more like her home where she'd grown up in the mountains. Coy smiled as he remembered his mother and how much his father had loved her. Here in the small cabin under the shade of the trees that surrounded it there had been many great times. Coy didn't know why he'd felt drawn to his childhood home; even when he'd come to stay with Jesse while Bo and Luke were off in NASCAR he'd steered clear of this small corner of the Duke Farm. He suspected that it had something to do with the funeral that he'd come to Hazzard for. He knew that his uncle wouldn't live forever but he really hadn't expected to get that call while he was up in Detroit. Coy and Vance had made it a point to check in on their uncle every chance that they could. It just didn't seem right that their uncle was now gone. Now out of the original eight Duke Boys there were only two left; two of the first Duke Boys that tore up the back roads of Hazzard in speeding automobiles. Coy walked over to the remaining hearth where the fireplace had stood and sat down while looking around the old burned out room. Sitting here he could almost see himself sitting in front of the fire while playing with his toys as a child. Then there was Vance after his parents had died when he was six. He'd come to live with his family even though Jesse and Lavinia had been willing to take him in. Coy's parents had insisted that since he already had the Bo and Luke (Daisy came in less than a year after Vance's parents died) that they should raise Vance. Vance and Coy got along just like brothers anyway so it was only right that they should be raised as them as well. Coy recalled as he and Vance would roughhouse and come running through the room at high-speed while playing or fighting. It seemed just like yesterday… Coy sat in front of the warm fire with his wooden cars while he listened to his father on the phone. At five years old he didn't understand most of what was said but it didn't stop him from listening anyway. "Jack and Caroline are what?... But how… Is Vance alright…Then he's…But Jesse…Yes I know full well that you always take it on yourself to look after everyone but in this case… Jesse…Jack's my brother too ya know which means that I'm just as much Vance's family as you are…No that ain't what I mean but you've already got Bo and Luke to take care of…Vance can share Coy's room. Just like they do when he would come and spend the night. You know these boys are nearly inseparable…Yes I'm sure. You and Lavinia have your hands full as it is…You know that Helen will agree to it to; she's always loved Vance and you know it…Alright, I'm on my way." Coy then watched as his father walked into the modest kitchen and talked with his mother briefly before he left out the back door and drove off. After he was gone his mother came in and sat on the couch to watch her son play. He noticed that his mother looked like she'd been crying so he left his place on the floor and climbed up in his mother's lap. She'd hugged him close to herself and only later did he find out what had made his mother so upset. Earlier that day Vance and his parents had been in a car accident; of the three only a six year old Vance had survived. He'd been thrown clear of the accident just before the car had tumbled down the side of Iron Mountain. That had been the only saving grace; sparing the young boy from suffering the same fate as his parents. So after Vance was released from the hospital the Dukes mournfully set about the task of planning a double funeral for Jack and Caroline Duke. Meanwhile, Vance was moved into Coy's room; his new home on the Duke land.

No Jessi, neither one of them do but, as I said a few posts ago, I have suggested Waylon, Waylonette, Jessi and Jesse. We have a dog named Daisy and a cat named Flash so I like to keep Dukes names in the family. LOL

  7. Hey Folks, I'm in the proccess of building a waylon jennings replica guitar. Waylons Guitar was a typical country "Fender Telecaster" he used many different models, but the original guitar was from the earlier 60's...for everyone that surely has seen the opening of the dukes theme on tv, shows waylon playing his leather covered telecaster. Let me take you on a Trip back in time about 12 years before dukes was even heard of... at this time, waylons guitar didnt look like we all know it now, it was a white colored guitar that was used in the filming of the movie "Nashville Rebel" this was when waylon had only released 2 or 3 records of his musical career. Below is a picture of waylon in the movie with the guitar, this is at the grand ol opry where waylon plays a charactor called "Arlin Grove" A young man with talent who turns out a real hit in the country music scene. Grand Ol Opery 1965 - 1966 Not so long later after waylon filmed nashville rebel, his albums where selling like hot cakes and was out on the road proforming his live acts, waylons guitar was getting beaten up, scratched and so... and eventurly it looked in real bad shape... then in around 1967 - 1968 waylons drummer at the time took waylons guitar to a leatherer, there the guitar was leathered in a black and white floral design, and thus the waylon jennings fender telecaster was born... Waylon loved the look of this guitar and used it in all of his live shows in the late 60's and early 70's... Waylon live 1968 - 1972 During his run from 1964 - 1972 waylon was singing "old country" meaning it was country music made for the old folk...although his genre was not strickly country... there was rock and roll and pop. But in the year of 1973. waylons image was dying as a nashville rebel, waylon had 1 more year on a RCA victor contract, and waylon was not happy about being thrown different producers for each song he recorded, he wanted artist control of his music... During this time, Waylon was rush into hospital and hospitalized for with hepititus (spelling). Waylon was about ready to give up everything. RCA wouldnt give him control and he didnt want to continue the contract. Waylons drummer visited waylon in hospital. He pulled a chair up next to waylons bed and told him " I can tell your fixin to quit...you dont want to do that...theres another way of doing things.....they call it Rock and Roll" and waylon being in hospital for a few months hadnt had the chance to shave... and thus the bearded outlaw of country music was born... (To Be Continued)

Yeah they did mention me by name...I was surprised that they took me up on my idea and even more so that they publicly thanked me, by name, for pointing out the fact of it marking six years since Waylon's death. I got to hear two Waylon's songs today...first this morning on my way to work with that program and then I came home for my break and the DJ played "Luchenback Texas" which is my favorite Waylon song! (I leave the radio on for my dog while I am away) It couldn't have came at a better time. I had a rough or hectic day today where things just didn't seem to go my way, hearing Waylon just seems to make things to be OK. I agree with you about the new songs and artists, but I can't complain much since I do listen to the radio all the time and like some of those artists. But I agree, they are definately a lot different than what it once was. Probably what they had considered Rock back then, could be classified as Country today. Which is sad. My mom often says that they should make Country Music into two settings, one alternative and one plain Country or something. When Alan Jackson (I am pretty sure it was him) came into the picture and was wanting to become a Country singer, they turned him away, telling him he was too Country! I don't understand how they could say something like that or turn someone down for that reason when that is the genre of music he was applying for. (Then again, I can't see how anyone could turn Alan Jackson and his music away!) LOL...sorry for all my rambling. Thank-you Roger for your comments...Waylon Jennings is my favorite singer that sang before the 1990's or so. But I must say that all in all, he is one of my all time favorites. You can't go wrong with ol' Waylon.

My radio station that I listen to the most, has this thing they do at five forty in the morning (somewhere around that time) where they play one old song. They usaully do a theme or something to play throughout the week and begin a new one the next week. They also take submissions and ideas... So I sent in last week that they should play a week of Waylon, this week, since Wednesday will mark six years since his death...and starting today they are doing it! Was excited to hear that they are taking my idea...of course, my luck and all, I only caught onto the last part of the song due to the radio in my car being on the wrong channel. They even thanked me on the radio for the idea and pointing the fact out to them of it being the anniversary of his death. So for this week, I'll be able to hear a song of ol' Waylon on my way to work. I always consider it a good morning when they chose a song of his to play at that time. Nothing too big, but had to share it with someone.

Poor 'ol Waylon is the only one who hasn't had a post in 2007 so I thought I'd change that. His threads might be a little lonely. That reminds me of his quote from the end of "The Great Santa Claus Chase"....."Boss was feeling lonelier than 'ol Waylon at the Country Music Association Awards". For you youngsters who might not get that... despite his astronomical record sales and popularity, Waylon never seemed to get many formal awards. People loved him but the "Establishment" didn't. The reason was that he was such a rebel. He was always fighting the system like one modern day Robin Hood.
