While I'm on Irish artists, I couldn't ignore Thin Lizzy. This song was written by the band's frontman Phil Lynott and guitarist Gary Moore about Lynott's newborn daughter. Phil died when I was 15, but I did get to see Limehouse Lizzy, the best known Thin Lizzy tribute act, about 25 years ago.

I'll take a quick break from Irish artists for this pioneering 1995 Eurodance/dream trance/ambient house track by Italian DJ/composer Robert Miles.

Robert Miles - Children

The piano melody was sampled in this 2023 track bringing the tune to a new generation. Luckily, this also has a single word title.

It's against Irish law take a break before playing Tir Na Nog by Celtic Women. It is the only non-American song I could hear a million times and not get tired of.

I can't post it here because Tír na nÓg is three words and this is One Word Song Titles. Celtic Woman aren't mentioned much back in Ireland, I guess because we have such a wide array of other great Celtic music to choose from. I see they're playing your state a few times in the next couple of weeks - are you going, Roger?

Here's one of their songs that does have a single word title.

Celtic Woman - Awakening

The countdown of the 100 greatest songs by Irish artists started on the radio today, and they got halfway with some of the songs I've posted recently already appearing. It'll conclude next Friday, and I'll let you know which ones made the list.

In the meantime, here's a song by an Irish artist who wasn't mentioned in the build-up to the poll.

Cathy Davey - Reuben

While I was looking for the video above I came across a version in Irish (as Gaeilge) with a couple dancing. It's fun.

the singing is so/so but I like the music! very....upbeat!

I liked this! She's pretty good looking! ( She'll never beat Emma Tizdale but still......  :)   )

I think I'd have to agree.

Maybe you'll like the vocals more in this one. It was on the soundtrack of the 1991 Steve Martin movie 'LA Story', hence the clips in the video.

Enya - Exile

I'll try to keep up the Irish songs until St Patrick's Day, but not all of the great artists make songs with single word titles.

Here's a great song about resilience and unsung heroes. It seems to have been an inspiration to a lot of the commenters on YouTube. Lead singer Danny O'Donoghue also spent some time as a judge/coach on 'The Voice UK' alongside Jessie J, will.i.am and Tom Jones.

When you've been fighting for it all your life
You've been struggling to make things right
That's how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power

The Script - Superheroes

I'm now going to break the one word rule because I wanted to post a second song by The Script as we used to sing it in the choir. This one is about a man waiting for a girl to return to the corner where he first saw her. Paradoxically, given the title, I find it rather moving!

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand
Saying, "If you see this girl, can you tell her where I am?"
Some try to hand me money, they don't understand
I'm not broke, I'm just a broken hearted man
I know it makes no sense but what else can I do

How can I move on when I'm still in love with you
