Howdy y’all, this is just a little thread I wanted to create to help us walk down memory lane, we all remember Dukes, but what other shows did you grow up with as a kid?

I only had NBC my entire childhood so missed a lot of shows. When I was 19 and Dukes came out I would go to my grandparents to watch it. They could afford a nicer antenna and really tall pole for it.

I grew up on this classic as a kid, from a very young age. 
 

Although some of you may remember it aired under a different name in America on PBS  

I only discovered Dukes when my adoptive dad came into the scene lol.

I've never heard of Shining Time Station. Before it became Thomas and Friends, it was simply The Railway Stories by the Rev. W. Awdry, and that's what I grew up with. Although I know that Ringo Starr narrated Thomas and Friends when it changed its name and came to TV, I haven't seen many of those episodes. I used to have LPs with the stories read by British TV presenter Johnny Morris.

He was best known for presenting a zoological kid's TV show called 'Animal Magic'. He'd narrate it and do voices for the animals.

Growing up at my grandparents we watched shows like Dukes, The Golden Girls, Three’s Company, All in The Family, Mash, & Smokey and The Bandit ( not a show but love it just as much as Dukes ) too many to name so many classics. But nothing will ever compare to Dukes.

Dukes of Hazzard of course seasons 6 & 7 I remember watching as a child, local CBS station aired reruns on Saturday mornings.

This Old House 

Don't remember the name but it was a Yankee guy that woodworked with antique tools on PBS. The intro was him running through the woods to his woodshop. Local PBS channel ran reruns of it up until a few years ago. Wife loved when it would come on Saturday afternoons because she would take great naps . 

 

Thomas and Friends also had George Carlin for a season or two as narrator as well.

Could it have been 'The New Yankee Workshop'? Norm Abram, who was also on 'This Old House', made some amazing items out of wood on that show.

No but I did watch his show as well. This guy worked only with antique tools. It was The Woodwrights Shop with Roy Underhill.  After googling it he was from North Carolina.

Yep I kinda remember reruns of that guy on my local pbs too I think, and yes George Carlin did do a few seasons with Thomas, lol perhaps this will bring back memories 

In addition to Dukes I recently started to collect the vintage diecast models made for the Thomas show. (Ironically made by ERTL as well  )

We had 'The New Yankee Workshop' and 'This Old House' on TV in the UK about 20 years ago (I haven't seen them recently). I'll have to check out 'The Woodwrights Shop' - it's a new one to me.

It's so odd for me listening to Thomas being narrated by an American. The fictional setting of the Island of Sodor is so British (it's meant to be located in the Irish Sea between the English mainland and the Isle of Man). BTW. Last weekend marked the 80th anniversary of The Railway Stories (AKA. Thomas and Friends) - there's an article about it here.
