That's normal operating procedure around heah. I do have a fan of the month selected for August, and the announcement will be made soon! In the future, I may call on any one of you for assistance, so thank you for the offer to help.

Here's a youtube link of the crash. I could be wrong but I think this is the patrol car in question. One Armed Bandits Clip

Gold was a common late-60's color. A lot of Chevy's sported it too; my own '67 Impala had that color originally. My guess is, gold was a popular body color because it wouldn't show rust as easily. Of course, cars didn't rust as quickly back then. So I dunno. Anyhow - on the patrol car there, I think that's a Dodge Monaco. I'm thinking it's the one Cooter flipped over in "One Armed Bandits."

Oh, I dunno, you looked trapped pretty good from here! Besdies, how does that save MaryAnne from the unruly mob? Tsk. Throwin' her to the wolves? Actually, I still get something outta the story that way. Muahahaha. See ya, Deputy!

Question Bout "Hazzard Homecoming"
Brian Coltrane replied to Redneck girl 01's topic in General Discussion
Alas!! Tastee Freeze in Luray is out of business. Looks like Bo's Belly Barn is still going. Make the appropriate change in your night life plans. Food recommendation: The Brookside Restaurant on 211 is very good, it's a couple-few miles outta Luray as you head towards Sperryville. They don't like Dukes of Hazzard people, or Yankees, especially both, but they serve a good breakfast and the homemade sourdough bread is excellent. -
Question Bout "Hazzard Homecoming"
Brian Coltrane replied to Redneck girl 01's topic in General Discussion
Awright, I'm just gonna give away my favorite motel, here, along with a link to other hotels in the same town. First, some background info. Sperryville is in the middle of freaking nowhere and it has a population of 350. It has a cafe that hates Yankees and closes at 2 pm. If you don't speak Virginian, take note that "arnge" means "orange" and "sowwahdoh" is "sourdough." (I've learned these things the hard way, folks.) Next: Hazzard Homecoming is not in Sperryville proper. It's about 2 miles outside of town on 211, heading towards the Blue Ridge Mountains. Literally, the event itself is in the middle of an empty field. There's a wooden garage on the site which was the original location of Cooter's Place when he first opened a store. For the shindig, it will probably be once again Cooter's Place. You'll see a lot of nothing out there, but it's pretty. Btw, bring your own toliet paper. Anyhow, my recommendation is to stay in a town about 16 miles thataway called Luray, Virginia. You'll have to drive through the mountains to get to it. But there are afforable lodging options out there, and a Wal-Mart, and a gas station. My favorite motel is The Hillside. It's old, but very clean, and it has a nice outdoor pool, very homey, and it's cheap. Here is a link to Luray lodgings. Note, there is a Tastee Freeze (tasteless freeze...) in Luray which is the only hangout in town for people under 60 years old. This is the community epicenter. Runner up is "Bo's Belly Barn" which is a convenience store-fast food-gas station combo. Shoes are optional. I've stayed in Luray many times, and always enjoyed it, so don't take my teasings here the wrong way. It's been a few years since I've been there, so for all I know it could have a Starbucks on every corner by now. -
Question Bout "Hazzard Homecoming"
Brian Coltrane replied to Redneck girl 01's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely, I remember where we stayed. In fact, if I was going to Hazzard Homecoming myself this year, I'd never post this motel because it's my personal fave, it's a small place in the country, and it books up fast. I just called and they do have a room or two open yet on that Saturday. I just gotta decide NOW if I'm going....it's kinda been doubtful onconna health and the distance, but....hmmm. -
Hoss, I'm with you. That's a Ford LTD. Here it is in Repo Men: I'd say we have a match. Good eyes, Hoss. Now, we can't see much of that blue car in the junk yard shots, but I do believe it's the sedan from Mary Kay's Baby. Here's a shot from the episode: Just going off the roof line and windows of the car, I'd say we have another match. Now, to actually answer one of the questions that started this whole thing. It's my opinion that this sedan was crushed, and not simply left to rot in a Georgia junk yard. My reasoning is this: the car was jumped, and while it may have had some sort of ballast in the trunk, I believe the ballast was removed in preparation for crushing. Notice that in the junk yard photo, the trunk lid is removed and the trunk is exposed. I don't know why they would have bothered messing with the trunk if the car was destined for a slow rot. The next tidbit I want to mention is the gold-colored Charger that we see only the nose of, in this next photo. I am now told that this gold Charger, which does not yet bear the Dukes war paint of orange and black, was actually LEE #8. It was reportedly being prepared for use in Georgia filming, but filming was moved to California before LEE #8 had any camera time. Supposedly, LEE 8 remained in GA when production moved, though LEE 3, which somehow survived the filming of the first 5 episodes, moved to CA. Why didn't LEE 8 make the trip? I don't know. Maybe there wasn't room for it on the trailer. LEE 8 was bought by a private party who sold it in 1980 to somebody else who hid the thing for 20 years. Upon sale to the the third and present owner since Warner Bros, LEE 8 had only added 1,500 miles to the odometer. Ok, fine, but then what General Lee is on the other side of the green LEE1? Argh. So far, my halfass research indicates that seven General Lees were used in GA filming, with eight original GL's being made during this era, with one getting no camera time and staying behind when filming moved. (still makes no sense, but that's the lore.) Following this, we know what become of LEE1. LEE3 went CA. LEE8 escaped filming and went on to lead a charmed life as a pampered show car. Unaccounted for are LEE 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 from the Georgia era. From what I have so far, LEE 2 is presumed dead but I can't confirm if it was crushed or left to rot, or...who knows. The blue sedan used in Mary Kay's Baby is presumed dead. Had this car been recoverable, it would have been notable as the substitute "hero car" for the General Lee in that episode. This is the only episode where the General did not appear. Considering that this plain ol' sedan also made a heroic, impressive jump in the episode, it's kind of a shame that it did not survive. ( I could be wrong, but I doubt this car was spared the crusher.)

Not sure if these photos were in Holland's book, but in my fruitless quest for more information about these cars, I came across these photos. I also have a very thin lead on more information, but I'm not getting my hopes up. In the meantime, I thought the photos were worth sharing. Here is LEE1, along with an unidentified orange Charger in the background, which may possibly be LEE #8 per the wild goose chase I'm on. Also pictured is a blue car which may have been the one in Mary K's Baby. One of the original patrol cars is visible in the next pic. These cars are at a Georgia junkyard, post-filming, but prior to being crushed or abandoned to their slow rots. I did find some good contact information during my quest, and as I get more info, I'll share it.

Sounds like a lot of work! But ya know what, it takes patience and skill to customize something like this. I've no doubt it's going to look great when it's done, and it'll be "01" of a kind!

One of the most coveted Dukes of Hazzard collectibles out there are the General Lee pedal cars. Pedal cars are popular collectibles in their own right, and when you add a TV show brand to it the price goes way up. Still...I think the price on this one is too steep. I'm not sure what the going rate is for pedal cars though; maybe it's reasonable for the condition. Last time I saw a General Lee pedal car on ebay it was going for $400, but it was in a lot rougher shape. General Lee pedal car

I'm truly happy for you, Val. You've made a lot of positive changes for yourself, from finishing college, to getting into the right crowds, getting a good job and now marrying a good person. I know it has not been easy. I remember the challenges you had. But you didn't quit. I'm proud of you. I know things are a whirlwind for you right now, but we'll be here whenever you've got the chance to say hello.

The General Lee replica owned by Volo Auto Museum is back on ebay, due to non-payment by the previous winning bidder. This is good news for somebody out there, a second chance to pick up a very nice General for reasonable money. The previous winning bid, which defaulted on payment, was under $25,000. Per Sonny's website, he is appearing ONLY on July 16th. When Daney originally posted this topic, she put it as the 15th. I didn't catch it there, but I've had the 16th on the home page. Figured I'd better clarify it in the Forums. FYI !

Actually Daney, I figured out what you mean. We don't really have a specific category for Ray's stunt show. Well.... *BOOM* there goes my head. I wish we had a little exploding head picture, like those smile-face things. I guess this rotten tomato guy is gonna halfta do. For now, it's fine if Roger posts about Ray's stunt shows as he has been in the Forums, and I'll post about them on the home page. If we start seeing more events that don't fall into DukesFest or cast appearances, or Dukes news, or...whatever else we already got, we'll address it. Somewhere...

Of course we can. Since we're already into July, next fan o' the month would be August. We used to run this thing loosely by committee among the admins; then Roger took it over - and did a great job - when we were dealing with other issues. This last winter we let the whole thing have a rest, to give HNet members a chance to "catch up" to everything. We also wanted new members to have a chance to make their mark, so to speak. I know Roger is recovering right now so I'll take it back on for August. For those of you just tuning in to this conversation and don't know about our Fan of the Month award, it's simply our way of saying thank you and giving recognition to longtime Dukes of Hazzard fans and contributors to HazzardNet. There is no cash prize involved, but the selected fan gets a write-up on our home page and usually some personal congratulations in our Forums. A little fame, but no fortune.

That's what this is. (We can't help it if they keep changing the name of the shindig, ya know?) It was "DukesFest" for years, so we made a "DukesFest" topic in the forums. Now it's "Hazzard Homecoming" because Ben gave/sold the name "DukesFest" to John, but when John ran the shindig in Atlanta, he lost his shirt. We still refer to it as DukesFest because we're too lazy to keep changing the forums. And we've got the cast categories in the forums as well, so if a cast member is appearing someplace individually, it can be posted there. When ya get right down to it, everybody posts stuff all over the place, so between the Forums and the home page, word seems to get out. We could create another forums category but my head would explode.

This looks like the same building as the first photo, but this promotional sign is older. I'd say this is still the Warner Bros studio. The sign almost has the look of older Dukes of Hazzard trading cards. It's the lettering that is throwing me off. It's not the typical "Dukes" font, but it does look like it says "The Dukes of Hazzard." I'm wondering how long that General Lee was stuck up at the top of the building, after seeing this.

There's value in having a private sanctuary or two, even if they're only in your head...or online. Everybody needs an escape. And everybody needs dreams.

Howdy there. Feel welcome to post the German Dukes link, we're always up for some cultural exchange. With the music you've listed, you're making me remember German bands like Nena and Falco. Wait, Falco was Austrian, but he sang in German so it's confusing. Anyway, welcome to HazzardNet!

Roger, I'm very glad to hear you're okay. That was a close call, and about as close as anyone could get and still be on this side of the gates. Count your blessings and take it easy for awhile! Keep us posted on your recovery, eh?

I think Daney thinks we've been slacking.

My motto exactly. It certainly applies to our monthly newsletter, which was last produced in January.

Update: I have had no responses to my emails thus far. I'm not real surprised by that, though I was hoping for at least one reply out of the two. The quest for info has stalled out. I'll poke around a bit more, I got one more contact I'm gonna try.
