Alan Hale Jr. (born Alan Hale MacKahan, March 8, 1921 – January 2, 1990) was an American actor and restaurateur. He was the son of character actor Alan Hale Sr. His television career spanned four decades, but he was best known for his co-starring role on the 1960s series Gilligan's Island. He also appeared on several talk and variety shows. Hale appeared in more than 200 films and television roles from 1941. He appeared primarily in Westerns, performing with Kirk Douglas in The Big Trees (1952), Audie Murphy in Destry (1954), Ray Milland in A Man Alone (1955), Robert Wagner in The True Story of Jesse James (1957), Hugh Marlowe in The Long Rope (1961), and Sheriff Jones in The Giant Spider Invasion (1975). He also appeared in musical comedies opposite Don DeFore in It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947), James Cagney in The West Point Story (1950), and Judy Canova in Honeychile (1951). He achieved continuing success on the CBS comedy Gilligan's Island (1964–1967), playing the secondary lead role of the Skipper. I like the neat touch of them showing us scenes being made in b/w in the 2001 Surviving Gilligan's Island Docudrama movie and cutting to real life color when the cameras stopped. It's like seeing things thru the cameras eye, and then seeing how they actually are.

Gilligan's Island Fun Fact: I heard Alan Hale Jr. was gentle in this scene of Season 2 V for Vitamins so not to scare Bob Denver's son Patrick Denver who played Little Gilligan being chased by Alan Hale Jr. Skipper Giant. I heard Patrick Denver was afraid and cried in rehearsal and Alan Hale Jr. toned the scene down to not scare him anymore.

(Rescue From Gilligan's Island 1978) Skipper:"What seems to be the problem Professor?" Professor:"Well, it's not fitting for some reason." Gilligan:"I bet I can get it. Skipper, gimme a boost! Whoa! I think you got me a little to high Skipper!" Skipper:"Gilligan, come down from there this minute!" The look on Professor's face and head shake with it in this scene after they crash thru the hut wall is one to say"Here we go again just like old times!"

(Season 2 V for Vitamins) Skipper/Giant:"Well now, my pretty, what's going on in here!?" Mary Ann/Maid:"Not a thing mean and cruel master. It's been very quiet." Skipper:"Well, I smell something, and it's not oranges. Fee fi fo fum!" Mary Ann/Maid:"I don't smell any fee fi fo or fum." Skipper/Giant:"Well, I do, and it's coming from over there!" Skipper/Giant(seeing Gilligan/Jack hiding behind the crates of oranges.):"Ah ha! There you are! Come out from behind there!"

Gilligan's Island Fun Fact: Dawn Wells(Mary Ann Summers) admitted it in an interview that her and Russell Johnson(Professor Roy Hinkley) had hots for each other. But never acted on it cuz both were happily married.
