  1. Finally, after daily trips to the classified ads I came across this. It's an atco lawnmower from the 1940's. The man I got it from was throwing it out because the frame was badly rusted, so I got it for free. He also mentioned that he might be throwing out a few old bikes soon, and will let me know before he posts them online. I also saw a foldable wheelchair under a big pile of stuff in his garage, so I might ask if I could have that as well. I have another idea brewing, so watch this space... Anyway I spent most of the afternoon taking it apart. I had to stop early because it started to rain, and I didn't have any space in my garage to work. Here's a few more pictures of the engine and disassembly process. The handles from the lawnmower are ideal for chopper handlebars. I'll include that in the wheelchair idea. The red part is part of the drivetrain assembly. I didn't get a chance to take it off so I'll start with that tomorrow.
  2. Hey y'all I've decided to strip down and rebuild my daily rider to it's former glory. I got it in 2007 for my birthday, and it's the last bike that my parents bought me. However despite it being the youngest bike I have, it's in the worst condition by far. It barely ran (only in the gear ratio 1-5), the front wheel was buckled from a collision with a car last year, the gears were gone, the back brake jammed whenever I used it, someone stole the badge from the front if the bike, the front brake barely worked and the rubber on the brake was torn off in the car collision and I never got round to fixing it, the rear tire was ready to burst (it had a duct tape patch holding it together) and the handlebars were rusted through in places and one of the grips had caught fire when someone stubbed a cigarette out on it ( don't ask because I still haven't figured out why they did it) Anyway here's a couple pictures of the bike as it was and the condition it's in know. There's also a picture of the donar bike that I bought to supply most of the parts for this project.
  3. And a couple more... Unfortunately the pictures don't do the paint job justice. The gold has a reflective shine off it, and the brown/gold contrast is really really something. I've only got to do a few small touch ups, a clear gloss coat, and then rebuild it.
  4. I spent all of today working on this bike. I went into town this morning and bought gold and chocolate brown spray paint. Both are gloss, but I'm still going to give the bike a final clear gloss coat. Here are some pictures of the bike stripped down to bare metal. I filled in a few holes that I drilled but didn't use, I also removed the rear lifters to be painted separately from the main frame.
  5. My friend Brian expressed interest in taking the pedals and cranks off this bike. It didn't bother me because they were going to be scrapped anyway. He took them off on Friday, which allowed me easier access to mounting a foot rest system. I also replaced the front steering, because it was badly bent. And I fitted an extra brake handle to the handlebars to mount the throttle cable to. I'm not going to buy the mini rotivator, because hopefully I can find a lawnmower when I go to the scrap yard soon. Anyway here are some pics of the bike in it's current condition. I haven't decided on a paint scheme yet, but I think I'll probably paint it gloss black.
  6. Hey y'all!! I don't know if many of y'all have noticed but I haven't been around for a while. I went off to the Gaeltacht (Irish college) for a week, I was meant to be there for three weeks but I only managed one week. I'm doing basic Irish in school, and while I'm good at it when I went away I was completely lost and could barely manage a conversation with anyone. So I had to pull out after a week. When I got home I began clearing out the accumulated bikes and scrap parts I had in my garden and garage. I'm now down to my last pile of junk, and have finally got things organized in my garage. I had about 13 bike frames that I bought just to strip and salvage, two dozen or so tires that couldn't be used, sixteen wheels of various sizes, and an old swing set frame that i intended to use in some way. When I brought everything to the scrap yard I got about €70, which I've put aside for future bike projects. I've also come up with a few new bike plans, and can hopefully try them out when I finish the current projects. The first one is something I've named "The Rollover Bike". It is basically a bicycle with a large steel circle welded to it, which allows it to roll. I don't have the machinery to bend metal, so I've decided to use a trampoline frame instead. Annoyingly we had a trampoline until April, when we sent it to the dump. If only I had the foresight to save it... This next one was suggested to me by HossC a while ago. I haven't got a push mower lying around, but I'm keeping my eye out for one. I have got a bike... Well mostly one. I have a grey bike lying in my scrap bike waiting to go to the scrap yard, but unfortunately it doesn't have any forks (where the front wheel goes), wheels, handlebars, seat, pedals and it has a pretty serious bend in the frame. I've also been busy working on the lawnmower bike, Fall Guy bike and another bike that I'll dedicate another thread to. As for the other two bikes, well I'll update the threads with the progress.
  7. I got home the other day,and spent most of my time since sleeping and clearing scrap bikes from my garage and garden. I buy a couple of bikes every few weeks to strip and scrap. It's a lot cheaper than buying new or secondhand individual parts. However I hadn't gone to the scrap yard in a while so I had about 14 bikes to clear. Because of this I got €70 in exchange for the bikes, which I'm happy with. Anyway unfortunately the lawnmower engine fell through, and now I'm in the middle of getting a mini rotary engine. It's €35 but the engine isn't working, so hopefully I can get it for €20.
  8. To quote Bo quoting Uncle Jesse in Big Brothers Duke " patience reapes it's own rewards". This is certain the case for me at the moment. I've been combing the classifieds for a lawnmower since I bought this bike and kept turning down cheap lawnmower after cheap lawnmower. Now finally I've struck gold!! I found a petrol lawnmower being given away earlier today. I rang the number asking for more details and apparently all that is wrong with it is a broken handle. I'm going to Irish college at midday tomorrow (yay :( ) so I've arranged to pick up the lawnmower at 9:30. It's only a 20 minute cycle and it finally gives me the opportunity to test the Fall Guy bike and see how it handles carrying a lawnmower on it's rear rack. I'll try and post a pic or two tomorrow, but I've still to pack and buy food and drinks ( I'm staying in the back end of nowhere, speaking a language I'm not studying, with no Dukes, HNet or bikes. Worst of all is there's no mp3s or iPods allowed so I'm going to go crazy from not having music)
  9. Roger I think that's the show I mentioned. It wouldn't happen to have been on d****very ch****l would it? If you believe most of the people who are predicting the world is going to end then I suppose they're going to blow everything on drink for one massive party. I feel sorry for the people who have been convinced into thinking the world is going to end. I've heard of numerous cults that have started, where people are donating all there money and the leader will "protect them during the transition". Personally I don't believe any of it. I'm an atheist so I don't tend to believe any of the spiritual stuff that people believe in. I won't go into much more detail, when my parents found out I was atheist (they're very religious, especially the whole of my moms family) I ended up staying at my grandparents house for a couple of days. Roger isn't the astronomical claim meant to be something like the sun and the earth will line up in such a way that it will reverse the earths magnetic fields ( cause north and south to move)?
  10. Thanks Brian! Ian isn't going to the debs so we wouldn't have the problem of sharing an id. I've still got a few months to think about this and plan it out, so I'll keep you guys posted. Roger, I know what you mean (about the pictures) but I'm going to delete th off my photobucket so they won't show up in the post.
  11. I was talking to my friend Jen yesterday ( the girl I'm going to the debs with) about trying to find someone to do a good fake id, and she suggested I try and borrow our friend Ian's id. He's still 17 now, but will be 18 by October ( when the debs is on). Apparently we look quite similar although I can't see the resemblance. Ian is on the left and I'm on the right. Can anyone see the resemblance? And I suppose y'all deserve to see a picture of me and Jen. This was taken last year in our dressing room.
  12. Hoss I'm not sure if you were saving this for another post, forgot about it, or just didn't know about it but the Hazzard County Fairgrounds in The Rustlers was filmed behind the Boars Nest. There's a great shot near the end of the episode which shows Rosco's car in the center of the picture and the back of the Boars Nest in the center back. It's in the last 5 minutes of the episode, when the two horse nappers drive into the fairground and spot the patrol car. I'm sorry I can't narrow it down any more than that, but hopefully you can spot the Boars Nest.
  13. Hey General welcome to HazzardNet y'all may notice we do things a little different here.
  14. I'm still looking for someone who can make a good fake id for me. I won't go into specifics but my friend knows someone who can do very realistic fake ids, so hopefully it will work out. I need it only to get into the debs, I'm not going to be using it to buy drink or cigarettes after the debs ( I don't smoke anyway, I can't stand the smell of smoke).
  15. Welcome to HazzardNet Richard!! It's great to have you joining us y'all may notice we do things a little different here!!
  16. Hey y'all I'm watching a show on tv at the moment that's about what's going to happen on December 21st 2012. Some of it is pretty believable but most of it seems dramatized. Personally I don't think the worlds going to end I'm December but I'm just curious to see what you guys think. It's always interesting to see people's opinions on topics like this.
  17. Oh a banana bike? They're kind of like the Raliegh Choppers. I don't know if they're big over the pond but in Ireland and England they're few and far between. So it looked a little like this? Since you've mentioned banana bikes, I'm considering trying this as my next project
  18. Hey y'all I've had this idea for a while, but it seemed that whenever I'd try to do it I always faced some obstical that forced me to stop. Now however I'm trying it. I've always been fascinated with motorbikes, mainly Harleys. Around Christmas of last year I began toying with the idea of fitting a gas engine from a lawnmower, chainsaw or weed wacker. Last weekend I put that idea to paper, and within three hours of deciding on this project bought a bike. The badge says it was made in west Germany, so it's atleast 25 years old. And because it's German it's built like a tank. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way after I had broken seven drill bits trying to drill holes into the frame for supports and mounts. I swapped out the original forks, which were designed to hold a 24 inch wheel, with a set of suspension forks which are designed to hold a 26 inch wheel. I want the bike to have a chopper kind of look, so I turned the forks around the wrong way so the front wheel sticks out further than it originally did. It also came with a rear rack. This is perfect for my design because I'm going to mount the engine on the rear rack, and have a chain going from the rear wheel to the engine. Here's a picture of the bike in it's current state. You can see how far out the wheel is. I've yet to find an engine, but still have loads of numbers to call.
  19. Hey guys I went out earlier today to do a little more work on the bike, but unfortunately because I left it outside for so long and because we've had mostly bad weather for the last few weeks, the pedals and cranks seized up. Rather than scrap the entire bike I just removed the seized pedals, and fitted a saddle to the end of a spare set of handlebars to use as an extended seat post. The result is this I haven't taken it far yet, just a spin around the block, but it's a nippy little bike that would probably be ideal for cycling in Dublin city. I've also got a few bikes to paint, so once I'm finished school I can hopefully get them all done.
  20. Hey y'all One of my friends recently asked me to go with her to her debs (the Irish equivalent of a prom). We're really close and have both agreeded not to become boyfriend and girlfriend incase we end up fighting and falling out. Anyway my problem is that I won't be 18 when the debs is on. We both thought that the age wouldnt matter, but now the parents association and venue staff are saying that all people under 18 must be out of the venue by midnight. Apparently I'm going to be one of the only if not the only 17 year old there (most will be eighteen and a half, some even nineteen). We first started jokingly saying that I should get a fake id of some kind, but now it's become more serious because of the curfew. I've no issue with not being able to buy or consume alcohol (I do drink occasionally but can still have fun without getting drunk) so I'd only be using the id to stay after the curfew. The least illegal document I could use is a student card, which is basically used for getting discounts in shops and on public transport. I haven't got one at the moment, and if I was to get a forged one it would only be for this occasion. However I'm still not sure what to do. My friends are saying I should, my gut feeling is indecisive and I can't ask my parents because they'll flip and might not let me go to the debs (they're a little weary as it is because as far as they know I don't drink). I was wondering if I could get y'alls opinions on this. Thanks
  21. Welcome to HazzardNet Zrad y'all may notice we do things a little different here
  22. I think it was only the first few cars that had the tag on the dash. I know in the later years the WB crew left a tiny engraving in the left bottom corner of each rear window to tell each car apart.

  24. Hey y'all Every year in my school we have something called the Gold Medal Essay. It's basically an excuse for teachers to see how creative we are. There's five classes per year, and in each class there's one winner. My class did the essay after the Easter break. We were supposed to plan it over Easter but being Irish I kept putting it off and thinking that "sure it'll be grand". On the day of the essay I still decided that I'd "be grand". When english class started I looked at the titles for a few minutes. I can't remember much of them but two that I remember are "After the War..." and "Things That Make Me Happy". I chose the latter, and immediately began waffling on about whatever came into my head. After about 30 minutes I had written about acting, going out, bikes and British comedy and had managed to spread it over about 2 a4 pages. I saw that I had 50 minutes left, so I decided to write about the relationship between Boss Hogg and Rosco P Coltrane, both on screen and off screen. I wrote about how they could take something as simple putting a phone back on it's cradle, and turn it into comedy gold with everyone ending up on the floor in a tangle of flailing limbs. I also wrote about how over 50% of their dialogue was off the cuff, and how Rosco ate a sandwich at Boss Hogg's wake in the Boars Nest. Because of this I managed to fill an extra page and a half, and I also won the gold medal in my class I'll try and type out some of the essay and post it in the fan fic section
