  1. Everyone got the right answer for the name, but no-one got the right answer of Grand County (anyone remember this appearing in other episodes?) - see screengrab with closed captions below for confirmation. Q. In 'Gold Fever', what was it said that Uncle Jesse would rather do than sit down in a dentist's chair?.

There's also a good version of this song by .
  3. Now you mention it, I've seen the Carl Edwards crash before: It looks like Carl Edwards' flaps were working fine, and he was unlucky to be hit by Ryan Newman just at the wrong moment. At least NASCAR drivers have a load of bodywork around them. Here's a crash from the 2007 F1 Grand Prix in Canada. The driver, Robert Kubica, went on to a make a full recovery, and won the race in 2008.
  4. I agree too, which is lucky for everyone else . Q. Still on the film at the start of 'Days of Shine and Roses': There were 2 law officers who appeared in the film, one was 'Spike' Loomis, who was the other and which county is he from?.
  5. Garrett, as you know, I only get to see highlights (I could get ESPN America which shows the races live, but it's about $25/month). I don't know whether the coverage I see is from ESPN or some other provider (it has American commentators), but I didn't get to see any more of AJ Allmendinger's crash than you did. It's got to be the worst crash I've seen in NASCAR in my short time of watching it. It would have been nice to hear he was OK. I found this quote from AJ afterwards: "I hate this place. I always have and always will." I guess the crash isn't going to help matters. Talladega really gives a different type of race. There was plenty of 4- or 5-wide racing, and loads more pushing/drafting than I'd seen before. The commentators also mentioned drivers getting the 'Lucky Dog' quite often (don't worry, you don't have to explain it to the Englishman - I looked it up ). I don't know what it was about the last race, but you were right - Talladega does look fast. Thanks for keeping us updated.

They - Jem Now you're back to my era (or should that be ). I'll take your word for it (not seen LOTR for a while) - Jem is actually Welsh, but sings in English.

  9. We have a week of a more favorable time difference :)

  10. Wow - it's great to have 5 correct answers. Well done everyone - it was 5.00pm on Thursday. Q. In 'Days of Shine and Roses', what was the name of the retired revenuer who showed the 'X-rated' shine-running movie?.

  12. I was thinking of the Bob Dylan song with the same name - both have similar sentiments.
  13. Congratulations Lori, I thought I'd get in first to pass the 'Fan of the Month' baton on to you. The month goes quickly, and it's sad that I can no longer tell people that I'm 'Fan of the Month', but you are a worthy successor. Hoss
  14. Points all 'round - it was a dozen catfish and Champagne lunches. Q. In 'The Rustlers', what is the deadline for entries to the Lulu Hogg stakes?.
  15. Here's a recipe for Bonfire Toffee. It's a traditional British candy, made especially in the north of England around Halloween and Bonfire Night. Ingredients: 12oz/300g demerara sugar (turbinado sugar should also work) 4oz/100g butter 2 level tablespoons of golden syrup 1 level tablespoon of black treacle/molasses 2 fl oz/4 tablespoons of water Method: 1) Put all the ingredients into a pan (the mixture bubbles, so use a big enough pan). 2) Heat slowly, stirring until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves. 3) Bring to the boil. Cover the pan, and boil gently for 2 minutes. 4) Uncover the pan, and continue to boil for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. 5) Test by dropping a little of the mixture into a cup of cold water. It should seperate into brittle threads. 6) Pour into a buttered 6in/15cm square tin, and leave to set. 7) Turn out on a board, and break up with a small hammer. Recipe makes about 1lb / 500g of toffee. When I was younger, it used to be sold in those old-fashioned candy stores with dozens of jars lining their shelves. Sadly there aren't many of them left .

Dice - Finley Quaye This is a beautiful song that features the talents of Beth Orton and William Orbit. Beth Orton's original version, Roll The Dice, first appeared on a 1993 album called 'Superpinkmandy', but sadly only 5000 copies were pressed for a Japan only release. That was unexpected, but brought a smile to my face - just what I was looking for.
  17. From Jeff Wayne's musical version of 'The War Of The Worlds'. It dates from the year before Dukes started, and I still have my original double LP version.
