  1. I got to see the last 25 or so laps when I got in from work. I came in just at the point that Denny Hamlin had a bad crash - something broke, locking his front wheel and cutting his brakes. It looked nasty, but he walked away and later praised the 7-point safety belt in his car (some of the others only have 5-point belts). I think they said Jeff Gordon was leading at that time, but the caution came out just when he was due a pit stop. He came back out in about 21st place, quickly got up to 13th, but could get no further. Kyle Busch was leading the restart after Paul Menard hit the barrier with a few laps to go, but got passed by Brad Keselowski and then Marcos Ambrose, who then took the lead. Lots of action in the last lap with David Reutimann's car suddenly appearing upside-down and then Tony Stewart skidding through the 'bus stop'. Boris Said called Greg Biffle unprofessional and claimed he'd been giving the finger when they were side by side. The pair then arranged a post-race meeting over their radios where Said said that Biffle approached him and then ran off behind some big guys. Doesn't sound like this one is over - Said said that wrecking cars on the track wasn't the way to solve it, but not to be surprised if Biffle turns up to a race with a black eye.
  2. Welcome to HazzardNet :).

  3. Well done Roger, I make that three in a row (and well done to BL as well). Now to today's question. A couple of episodes featured parking meters in Hazzard Square, usually so that Rosco could give out dubious tickets . I have screengrabs from two different episodes (one was 'High Flyin' Dukes', I can't remember the other) that give different time limits (1 hour and 2 hours maximum stay), but the cost of parking was the same. Q. How much was an hour's parking in Hazzard Square?: A) 5¢ 10¢ C) 25¢ D) 50¢
  4. Welcome to HazzardNet. You and the other guys in your group have some cool replica movie cars between you.
  5. Welcome to HazzardNet :).

  6. Welcome to HNet Wesley, hope you enjoy your stay .
  7. fun
  8. Well remembered Roger, and the bonus point too . Q. What was the name of Hazzard's alliteratively titled drapery store that appeared in season 1 and some of season 2?.
  9. Welcome to HazzardNet :).

  10. I measured the distance from your home to Sperryville in Google Earth, and it's about 5000 miles (8000 km) in a straight line (it wouldn't give directions ). I'm much closer - only 3400 miles (5440 km) away! - maybe next year.

  12. Welcome to HazzardNet Smithy. I assume the game you have is 'The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee'. It does not appear in Wikipedia's List of Xbox games compatible with Xbox 360 (or any similar lists I can find), so I guess you'll need to find an original Xbox.
  13. Looks like you didn't need Cooter's tow truck to get you out of that one Roger. It also proves that GLG's grade 12 teacher is right sometimes . Q. Which lawman drove a blue 1959 Cadillac Series 62?. For a bonus point, who did it belong to?.

    Commercials

I keep seeing commercials and forgetting to post them. Here's a couple: The first is another one for opticians SpecSavers. It was shown a lot around the time of the final Shuttle mission: The second is for a mixed fruit drink called Vimto. I loved this stuff in th UK, but it doesn't seem to be available in Ireland . The lowrider reminded me of Cypriano's 'dancing' car from 'Hazzard in Hollywood'. The car is real; just the berries are CGIed: Hello pretty ladies ...

A great chilled-out track for hot summer days. I discovered this track when it was used in the UK hidden camera show 'Trigger Happy TV'. The skydiving video is also fun (skip to 0:57 if you know what a small plane taking off looks like ). I call my taste in music eclectic too - sounds so much better than weird .
  16. You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties - Jona Lewie Originally released in 1980, a new version of this song was used earlier this year on an Ikea advert: - Jona Lewie makes a brief cameo at 0:23 (he's the guy in the suit and dark blue shirt). I've got 40 tracks by Glenn Miller, and that ain't one of them - thanks MaryAnne.
  17. I spotted this one in 'Happy Birthday, General Lee'. Tom directed this episode, but he failed to spot that Rick (the guy in the gray jacket) was partly blocking the 'Scrap Metal' sign for most of this scene, with unfortunate results.
  18. I've been doing some research into this vehicle. Originally I thought it looked like a larger version of the security truck from 'Money to Burn' (or Swamp Molly's arms truck). That's a 1969 Dodge P-200 Step Van. Eventually, after loads of searching, I found a couple of pictures of this van. Apart from the location of the turn signals and lights along the roof it's pretty much the same. It looks like it's quite a rare vehicle. The body is made of aluminum by Flxible Southern, and this one is on a 1966 Chevy P-30 chassis, although other chassis were used. The van on the left of this advert again has the turn signals in a different place, but other than that it's the same.

A beautiful song from the Scottish band with guest vocals by The Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan. The guy with long hair isn't Paul, it's British comedian Peter Kay who also directed the very funny video. As well as sell-out comedy shows, Peter is also known for miming to Tony Christie's hit '(Is This The Way To) Amarillo?' in this charity video released in 2005. It features a who's who of British TV and music personalities from the '70s and '80s (Tony Christie himself appears briefly at about 2:20). When British troops in Iraq made their own version of the video it crashed the Ministry of Defence computers due to the number of downloads (see this article).
  20. I first heard this song in the 2005 Dukes movie, so it wasn't all bad .
  21. By the end of season 4 Cooter is driving this 1968 GMC. The wrecker bed looks like the same as the one on the blue and white Ford (without the towing dolly). Maybe the Ford broke and needed replacing (like when Daisy went to a '71 Road Runner because the newer car was unreliable). This picture is from 'Miss Tri-Counties'. As well as the tow trucks, Cooter had a few other trucks. This green 1968 Chevy appeared a few times, and I think it was also the truck used by LB Davenport. This picture is from 'Witness for the Persecution' where Boss spends much of the episode rolling around in the back. A couple of episodes later and Cooter has a blue 1969 Chevy for 'People's Choice'. Emery Potter's wedding takes place on the back of it. Surprisingly, the Chevy badge has been left on the hood. After the first few episodes most of the other vehicles have their badges removed or covered with tape. I'm not sure of the make and model of this truck that Cooter owned in 'Uncle Boss'. I think the sign on the side said 'Cooter's Garage' and 'Reliable Auto Repairs'. Cooter needed an enclosed truck for this episode because he used it hide Hughie Hogg's VW Beetle in the back. Cooter also had a large variety of 'loaner' cars, but that's another story ...
  22. Here's the screengrabs I promised. Cooter's first tow truck was this brown 1969 Chevy. This picture is from 'Repo Men', but the truck first appeared in 'One Armed Bandits' (see inset) without the plank of wood. I don't think it was driven by Cooter in that episode. The blue and white 1967 Ford gets used from around the middle of season 1. This picture is from 'Money to Burn'. The inset is the same truck as the impound truck from 'The Big Heist' a couple of episodes earlier. For season 3 and the first half of season 4 Cooter drives this yellow late '70s Ford. It appears many times, this picture is from 'Good Neighbors, Duke'. In the second half of season 4, Cooter reverts to blue and white trucks. The '67 Ford reappears in a couple of episodes, eg. 'Goodbye General Lee'. The Chevy below makes a few brief appearances, sometimes swapping places with the Ford mid-chase - this picture is from 'Cletus Fall in Love' where Cooter's truck is a Ford as it leaves town, a Chevy during the chase, a Ford as the chase concludes, and a Chevy as everyone gets out!. You can easily tell the difference; from the front the Ford has a very white grille, and from the rear the Chevy wrecker bed extends over the rear wheels.

  24. Cooter had many different trucks throughout the seasons, and even the ones that were meant to be the same had variations. Here's some of them: Brown 1969 Chevy Fleetside Blue/white 1967 Ford F-350 Custom (this truck was also used as the Hazzard impound truck) Yellow 1978/9 Ford F-350 Custom Blue/white 1970 Chevrolet C-30 Blue/white 1968 GMC C-35 Around the second season he also had a couple of Chevy pickups. It's getting late here, I'll try to get some screengrabs tomorrow.
