    One Word Song Titles

I should've remembered this after Mufn's last post: America - Simon & Garfunkel Of course, there are a couple of other well known songs from West Side Story with a one word titles, but I'll leave them for Mufn .
  2. The original of this song was a big hit for Cliff in 1959. The version above was recorded with The Young Ones in 1986 for Comic Relief.
  3. There's been an important vehicle missing from this thread, and it's got to have been the hardest Fan Art project so far. I'd always intended to do one of Cooter's tow trucks, but had been putting it off because I knew the wrecker assembly would be complicated. I picked the GMC truck for a couple of reasons; it didn't have the separate towing dolly, and I've already done a Ford F-Series (Uncle Jesse's truck), so I fancied something different. I originally started out back in August. Unfortunately, after a fair bit of work, my computer decided it didn't want to re-open the file or the backup. I started again, and the same thing happened. This time I saved it out to different files and formats along the way, and had no problems at all. As they say, "third time lucky" . The large rear dually wheels mean that everything is slanted at a 2.5 degree angle, which certainly made lining things up a lot harder. I decided to model the checker plate as accurately as possible, but that brought the total number of elements up to around 15,000. I must have used over 60 reference pictures, and they showed that at least two different GMC trucks were used. The main differences are the lights: sometimes the cab roof lights are circular, others they are teardrops; the main beacon changes design, and the lights either side also change (including the way they are supported); the rear light panel has two distinct designs. The truck is sometimes very clean (as seen here), while other times it's covered in dirt. The license plate moves from the back to wrecker support. There are two different mirror designs. Lastly (I think), there are sometimes chains hanging off the back - for simplicity I left these out. You may even spot a few more. Although it didn't appear in the show, I've added the manufacturer emblem to the hood (as with I've done with other Fan Art projects). I didn't have a good reference photo of the winch, so I copied another one. All the other features you see here have appeared in the show, but not necessarily on the same truck .
  4. You can get them on ebay - just search for "Hazzard Sheriff Patch".
  5. I bought it when it came out - can you believe it was 21 years ago?: Why is the world in love again? Why are we marching hand in hand? Why are the ocean levels rising up? It's a brand new record for 1990 They Might Be Giants' brand new album: Flood
  6. I had to laugh when I saw the first picture. The hand gesture of the kid in orange means something different over here .

Before I leave Fiddler ... remember "playing with matches, a girl can get burned": Matchmaker - from Fiddler on the Roof There's some great lines in this song: Hodel, oh Hodel, Have I made a match for you! He's handsome, he's young! Alright, he's 62. But he's a nice man, a good catch, true? True. I promise you'll be happy, And even if you're not, There's more to life than that--- Don't ask me what. Chava, I found him. Won't you be a lucky bride! He's handsome, he's tall, That is from side to side. But he's a nice man, a good catch, right? Right. You heard he has a temper. He'll beat you every night, But only when he's sober, So you'll alright. I've already mentioned this in Musical Chairs, but I saw Topol reprise his role of Tevye in the 1994 production at the London Palladium.

I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but I like this one: Sorry it's a long video. There were shorter ones, but they either had bits missing or just a still picture. "You may ask, how did this tradition get started? I'll tell you - I don't know." "Tradition. Without our traditions, our lives would be as shaky as... as a fiddler on the roof!" If you want something more accessible, here's a Lego version. The stage version includes a couple of extra jokes!. Maybe I should worry about liking this musical - it's obviously a favorite of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. 'Fraid you get silver - I posted it back in February .

Warning: the video is slightly risqué (girls in bikinis etc.). It features Madonna being driven around in a 'Super Fly' stretched limo by Ali G - booyakasha!.

  13. How appropriate that you used the oblique projection technique on the cover of a geometry book .

You can't beat a bit of early '80s synthpop. This is the extended version of their single from 1982.
  15. The title may say 'The Unofficial Companion', but the foreward is by Cathy, and the acknowledgements list a load of cast and crew. It even includes a special thanks for our own 'Supreme Superior Commander', Meadowmufn .
  16. I think you'll be hard pushed to find anyone who liked the miniature car stunts (unless you happen to know a WB executive ). If memory serves, they started near the end of season 6. The following quote is from chapter twelve of David Hofstede's The Dukes of Hazzard: The Unofficial Companion. They were finding '69 Chargers harder to find as well. Other shows, such as The Fall Guy, also used miniatures around this time.
  17. Found it at last!. The scene is about 2/3 of the way through 'Play it Again, Luke' in season 6. Bo and Luke are trying to get to Candy Dix's RV while Candy hides out above Cooter's.
  18. I wasn't ignoring this thread. It's just that although I remember the scene well, I can't remember what episode it's from. I did find a similar scene in 'The Return of Hughie Hogg' when Cooter uses almost the same line to two of Hughie's deputies. On this occasion Bo, Luke and Rosco are all hiding in old oil drums. I'll keep looking for the one that BoandLuke is after.
  19. I haven't found the full episode yet, but is on YouTube. It includes this picture of Sorrell at about 2:03.
  20. If I had an orange cat I'd name him 'General'. Now if only I could breed them like this: Don't worry, cat lovers - this has been Photoshopped (you can tell by the pixels) .
  21. The ranches are mentioned in various threads, although I'm not sure about pictures. Here's some Google Maps links to the main ones: Lyons Ranch - as mentioned by CDoherty above. Disney's Golden Oak Ranch - also near Santa Clarita. Lake Sherwood - now re-landscaped as the Sherwood Country Club. Many of the public roads in this area were also used. Newhall Ranch - now includes the Indian Dunes location just to the north. The airfield used in several episodes was the Indian Dunes Airport (now a plowed field), and the record-breaking Styx River jump also took place here. The Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park, used in 'Lulu's Gone Away' (season 6 episode 1), is just to the east. There's pictures of that in the Hazzard Square thread. Just for completeness, the Burbank Studios are here.
  22. dash My first choice was interrobang, because it's a great word. Then I pictured the puzzled looks as people said "you what‽".
  23. I'm not sure about the history of the building before Dukes, maybe Brian or one of the other members can help you out. On the gas pumps, I can't speak for the US, but here in Ireland it's not uncommon to see gas pumps outside rural pubs, although they're not all still in use and are starting to disappear - here's one not far from where I live. Some small villages have a pub, small grocery shop and gas pumps all in one business. My favorite combination (which I've seen more than once) is pub, liquor store and funeral parlor . Considering all the driving, and the poor gas mileage they must have got, it's a wonder that you didn't see more people constantly filling their cars.
  24. The episode is 'Miz Tisdale on the Lam' (season 4, episode 18). The outside of the store is visible in several episodes, but this is the only time we see the inside. The interior of the barber shop next door is seen a few times.
