  1. Welcome to HazzardNet :).

  2. I've mentioned this song in the What songs remind you of Hazzard? thread, but couldn't find a video of my favorite version before. The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore - Michelle Shocked How could I resist a song with the line "I was born and raised at the mouth of the Hazard Holler"?. The song was written by Jean Richie about the coalmines and railroad around Hazard in Kentucky, but whoever made the video spelt it as "Hazzard" in the lyrics. The song has been covered many times over the years, including .
  3. Sorry K-Duke, but I thought I'd share an example of how early a reference to Dukes appeared in another show. The fact that it's mentioned in the popular British sitcom 'Only Fools and Horses' shows how quickly Dukes was adopted into popular British culture. It was back in 1983, the year that saw the release of 'Return of the Jedi', and the episode was called 'May The Force Be With You'. Although the title may be a Star Wars reference, the force in question is actually the Police Force, this time in the shape of Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent as Detective Slater. For those of you not familiar with the show (was it shown in the US?), the main characters make their money mainly by buying and selling goods that are either defective or stolen. In this episode they acquire a stolen microwave oven back when they were a relatively new commodity. So the question is, what would you do with a new microwave oven?. Edit: The video I originally posted has disappeared from YouTube, so here's the dialogue from the scene: Grandad is fiddling with the stolen microwave: Del: What are you doing? Grandad: I'm trying to get 'The Dukes of Hazzard!' Del: The 'Dukes of Hazzard!' This is a microwave oven you dozy old twonk! Gordon Bennett, you'll be putting frozen pizzas into the portable next! SPOILER Del, Rodney and Grandad are all arrested, and give widely differing descriptions of the thief. Detective Slater threatens unpleasant consequences for Rodney and Grandad if Del doesn't name the robber. If you want to find out who stole the microwave, and see Jim Broadbent, click here.
  4. I think you'd have to call Hughie Hogg a recurring character - he didn't appear enough to be called a regular. A return of Amy Creevy would've been good because I'd like to see the look on Bo's face when Frankie turned up. I'd also have been happy to see Mason Dixon's girls return - do I need to give a reason .
  5. One last picture of the fire station. This one is taken from 'The Late J.D. Hogg', and shows the fire station dressed as garage (competition for Cooter maybe?). It's the end of the scene where Cletus steps on a wheeled board and skates down the hill, ending up in the water just to the right of this pictute. The start of that stunt is filmed in an entirely different location, which I'll cover soon. The previous post mentioned the new, western end of East Potrero Road. At the eastern end is the intersection (below) where it joins South Westlake Boulevard/Decker Canyon Road (Highway 23). This road featured in several episodes (this picture is from 'Uncle Boss'). Looking at the aerial maps from 1980, this area has changed very little. There's actually a large number of houses behind the camera - see for yourself here. This picture is taken on East Potrero Road, just to the right of the previous one. I can't remember which episode this is grabbed from, but I think it was near the start of season 2. Again the road is still quite recognizable - the trees have grown a bit, but the overhead wires are still the same. The last picture of this post is another from 'Uncle Boss'. It's taken just south of the previous two pictures on Decker Canyon Road. The fencing on the left surrounds Lake Eleanor, which can be seen as Hughie's VW drives by, seconds after this picture was taken. I could only get a really blurry grab, so didn't think it was worth posting. As far as I can tell, the camera must have been somewhere near here. If you click on the link and spin around to face the other way you'll see there's now a sign that says 'Speed Checked by Radar' - we all know it's just a hair dryer!.
  6. After a quick Google I can tell you that you are named after the town of Yewdale in Lancashire (northern England). You can read the full history of your name here.

  8. It's been a while since I added to this thread. That doesn't mean that I've been resting on my proverbial laurels. The next few posts concern the area around Lake Sherwood that was used extensively in early seasons. In many cases they filmed on public roads rather than private ranches. I'll start with this building that's visible in several episodes (seen here in 'Arrest Jesse Duke' from season 2). I thought I'd found the right building while looking around Lake Sherwood on Google Maps, but the road layout didn't seem to fit. After more research I found that the north-western corner of the lake had been re-designed in the early '80s, around the time that the lake was drained. The road layout was changed when East Potrero Road was cut through the hill on the north side of the lake. This confirmed that I had the right building, which turned out to be Engine 33 of the Ventura County Fire Department. On the map below you can see how the area looked in 1980 and how it looks now (the fire station is roughly in the center). Click here to see how the fire station itself looks today. This picture is the view down Stafford Road, which used to start opposite the fire station. This is the old West Potrero Road looking almost due west from the fire station. I'll return to East and West Potrero Roads in later posts.
  9. I hope this is ok for you Alex. I decided to do a kids' bike - the chain was quite tricky to get right, even without the complexity of gears. I've put the Confederate flag on the saddle and given it 10-spoke wheels - I'll be expecting to see similar modifications to CDoherty's real General Lee bike .

  12. From what I can find online, Dukes started on TV in the UK in March '79 (about 2 months late!). Being as this is nearly 33 years ago, and I was eight at the time, my memory is a bit fuzzy. From what I recall, the first season was shown on a week night at about 9.30pm (it later moved to early evening on a Saturday). Due to my age, I wasn't allowed to see every episode, but my first memory was a chase around a junkyard which I'm guessing was 'One Armed Bandits' - so I've been watching since the start.
  13. Same title, different song. The Power Of Love - Frankie Goes To Hollywood This one comes with a seasonal video.

    One Word Song Titles

I can't believe I haven't posted this before: Cars - Gary Numan This track seems to make its way onto '80s compilations despite coming out in 1979. I was too young then, but did eventually see Gary Numan play live in the mid '90s. The distinctive opening has been sampled many times, in songs like (which also fits this thread ).
  15. Thanks for the specs, CD. Rather than copying an existing bike, I thought I'd use my imagination. You'll have to wait and see whether that was a good idea or not .
  16. I'll continue the flirting with this classic :

    One Word Song Titles

Another Pilot song from the '70s: The song appeared on the soundtrack of 'Happy Gilmore' and 'Herbie: Fully Loaded'. In 2009 it was covered by Selena Gomez and sampled heavily in the track 'Magic' by Flo Rida.
  18. I wish 'girl groups' were still this good.
  19. Alex, I'm making a start. As CDoherty said, the last few pictures were made by changing colors and moving a few elements around. Starting something from scratch takes longer, although a side only view is much quicker than multiple views in orthographic projection. I'll put my current project on hold to squeeze this in, but don't expect anything for a couple of days.
  20. Another song from a commercial. This beautiful song is currently being used to advertise DKNY 'Be Delicious' Eau de Toilette. The video of atmospheric shots from NYC during a sudden downpour fits the song perfectly. Before anyone asks, I live in Ireland, so it does rain where I am . Yay! - post #2012 on the first day of 2012 - how's that for timing?.
  21. If you really want a vector art version, I'll put it on my 'to do' list. Until then, here's some pictures I found that'll hopefully keep you happy in the meantime. There's bicycles, scooters, motorcycles and a couple of oddities at the bottom: And for anyone who hasn't seen it, don't forget to check out CDoherty's General Lee bicycle here.
  22. Someone else had the same idea. I found this earlier - I'm guessing it would be Garrett's dream team if Jeff Gordon was driving : Or they could use the car I posted in the Rednecks of NASCAR thread a few months ago.
  23. Hola Carlos. Feliz Año Nuevo desde Irlanda. Espero que usted y su familia ha tenido una gran Navidad y que el 2012 es bueno para usted.
