  1. I'm relying on educated guesses here; I don't know any for sure: Crater Lake Judge Buford P. Potts Polk County
  2. You really need to listen to this on headphones to get the full benefit of the stereo trickery toward the end of the track. If you don't have headphones handy, stick your head between your speakers. It takes me back to listening to it in mid-80s on a cassette Walkman .
  3. The uploader describes this as "bangin Harmonica blues". I've always thought of him as a folk musician. Either way, it's a great tune: The track is from the 1989 album 'Footsteps and Heartbeats'. On the liner notes of his LPs Rory is usually credited with playing both footsteps and heartbeats along with spoons, harmonica etc. I saw him play live the year this came out, and he filled the theater with just the sound of his harmonica. The uploader has added a clip from an old 'Felix The Cat' movie for the video. I'm not sure why, but it's quite fun .
  4. It looks like you're following in the footsteps of Norm Abram, so just make sure you remember what he says about eye safety : Maybe you could call your TV show 'The New Jackeen Workshop' .
  5. I noticed that too. I think it's a '71 Olds Cutlass, which would fit with the license plate. It also has the wrong wheels, but it is in the UK where Chargers are a little harder to get hold of. Having said that, the second and third cars are also in the UK and they're both very good looking Chargers, even if one is a '68 (incorrectly tagged as a '67).

  7. It was Cannonball time again earlier today. This year the cars all parked up in a makeshift car park after some good burnouts up the hill. Several of this years' entries were the same as last year, so I've just included some of the new additions. Quite a few of the drivers/passengers dressed up for the occasion, like this smart Polizei officer in an Audi and Chewbacca in a Maserati. Some other costumes, not shown here, included The Blues Brothers, Top Gear's The Stig and some NYC Police. Some of the cars also dressed up. How about a leopard print Rolls Royce or flower power stretched limo? The Maserati ambulance didn't look very practical, but did include some handy livestock advice above the grille . The were a few US cars again this year, although not as many as the website had promised. The ones that did make it included a couple of Corvettes, a Hummer, a 2006 Mustang, a mid-70s Camaro and this '69 Camaro with a huge blower (similar to Vin Diesel's Charger in 'The Fast and the Furious'). I got to sit in the orange Lamborghini, and it was a bit cramped for my height. I told the owner that I liked the color, but it was the wrong sort of car . Finally, I'll leave you with the Gardai talking to an unmasked Batman. As the cars left to make their way to the hotel he came down the street revving the engine in his Ferrari (he was driving very slowly and not doing burnouts). He was pulled over and given a breath test, which he passed. I guess it's not every day that they can say they stopped Batman!
  8. ... is all my brain and body need. To misquote Meatloaf, one out of three aint bad.
  9. They were both new names to me, but I've enjoyed looking them up on YouTube. I think I prefer Del McCoury out of the two. The first track I tried was Rain And Snow by The Del McCoury Band & The Chieftains. As one of the comments says, bluegrass isn't that far removed from the reels of traditional Irish music, so the two worked well together. Maybe a few more bluegrass bands could try adding a bodhrán . The backing reminded me of by the Soggy Bottom Boys from 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'. I probably shouldn't be surpised as the lead vocalist, Dan Tyminski, lists Del McCoury among his influences. You asked if anyone likes any other bluegrass groups. The only one I listen to regularly is Hayseed Dixie. Don't be put off by their gimmicky name: they're great musicians with a sense of humor. They're probably best known for doing very good bluegrass covers of rock songs (they call it rockgrass) such as Motörhead's . Their albums also include some of their own compositions and even a - who'd have thought that would work so well?

    One Word Song Titles

Y'all may have heard this at the opening ceremony of the Olympics: The 'Grime' music genre, a development of UK garage/British hip hop, emerged from an area of East London very close to the Olympic Park.
  11. I'll keep this one simple:
  12. I should've taken the hint with the AC/DC song you posted last week. So You Want To Be A Rock N Roll Star - The Byrds
  13. Great, because it looks like ... It will never die. Y'all may remember this one from 'Christine'.
  14. If we're role-playing, can I be ... or at least ... I saw Amy performing live on TV earlier today. I must get some more of her music; she's really talented!
  15. I wasn't finished with the last theme. I know ...
  16. That's fine with me because ...
  17. Welcome to HNet. Be sure to share some pictures of the General if you win the auction .
  18. I don't know how many times the stunt was performed, but the front of the General looks quite battered as it makes its jump. If the picture looks familiar, it may be because an almost identical shot was used for the Facebook "Jump Day" post on Wednesday. I captured this one back in May, but several of the other screengrabs here were done just a few hours before the Facebook picture appeared. This one looks to be just a couple of frames earlier. I'd like to say it was all planned, but we're not that good - it's just a coincidence, and I know that Roger likes them! Maybe this last picture belongs in the bloopers thread, but if you freeze-frame the landing you can see the two occupants are wearing brown crash helmets. You can also see what happens when Charger meets tarmac. There was a good bit of location switching for this jump. Most of it was filmed on Agua Dulce Canyon Road, but the "Dip" sign before the jump was on West Potrero Road near Lake Sherwood (I will get around to covering West Potrero Road properly, I promise). I haven't been able to identify the dip itself, but the spot where the speakers fall off looks like East Carlisle Road. Watch the landing carefully - the speakers initially stay on, and only fall off when the we switch to a different camera (and location).
  19. I have to thank CDoherty for indirectly helping me find this location. We were discussing somewhere nearby as the possible filming location for another episode when I decided to have a virtual spin around the area in Street View. I was mainly looking at the hills in the background as these tend to change least over time. As I made my way west along Agua Dulce Canyon Road I spotted a familiar outline in the background: The reason I recognized it is that it's another screengrab from my "unknown" files that's been bugging me for ages. It appeared in the scene where the General jumps the hay cart in 'People's Choice'. Here's a close-up of the hay cart looking in the other direction. The roadside scenery has changed a bit over the years, but I'm pretty sure the camera was about here. There's a better view of the background hills from the other side of the hay cart. The length of the shadows indicates that this was filmed a little later in the day. I'm not sure if this location was used again (you can bet I'll find another great scene in two weeks time!), so while we're here I'll mention that it's very close to Vasquez Rocks. I don't remember them appearing in Dukes, but they famously appeared in 'Star Trek: The Original Series' (when Kirk attacked the Gorn) and 'Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey' (partly as a parody of the 'Star Trek' scene), as well as many other TV shows and movies (click on the link above and there's a link to a list of productions about halfway down). The Kirk/Gorn scene even made it into this week's Google Doodle that celebrated 46 years of 'Star Trek'.
  20. Those of you who saw last week's update of my Double Zero artwork may have guessed that Lucifer would be next on my list. I used the updated body shape from the Double Zero, but also modified the decals, scoops and rear wing. In my original version I had the rear wheels too close together. This detail, along with many others, has now been corrected. Y'all may have noticed that I've added a few extra decals this time. For some reason the car seems to have started out with real company names on the stickers (unlike the fake ones that appear in later seasons), but they were then covered over for the close-ups. Unfortunately, the car is gloss black and the paint used to cover the decals is matt. Still, it could be worse; they used the same matt black paint to cover the decals on Cooter's green and yellow car! I had to use a bit of guesswork for the company names because, with the exception of "Crane Cams", they're only visible in the long shots. The "Crane Cams" logo actually seems to visible after the others have gone. The top line of grabs below shows the decals visible, while the lower line shows them covered.
  21. We've had a couple of this type of blooper before. While Amy is trying to control Lucifer during the test run in 'Luke's Love Story' you can briefly see a camera strapped to the right side of the car. I need three pictures for this one. In 'Arrest Jesse Duke' the General mysteriously goes missing between shots. We first see the raised General as Luke roars out of Cooter's garage. Yet, when Boss and Hughie discover the patrol cars and Caddy have been stripped the General is nowhere in sight, even though we get a clear view of Cooter's. Then, in the next shot, we see Luke and Daisy drive across the road from Cooter's to negotiate with Boss and Hughie.
  22. This was way before I got to see any NASCAR. Also, just like they used to do on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?', you've eliminated the two answers I'd provisionally ruled out . I'll guess at #28 Hardees, even though I'm not sure what Hardees do (unlike BK, they certainly don't have any stores in Ireland!).
