I didn't care for either movie, but if I had to pick, I'd say the 2007 movie was better. Welcome aboard, Lucas_Duke95!

Well, the upgrade didn't go well. There are still some issues that will keep me from upgrading to the current version. I'll wait until the next version comes out and try again. I have no idea when that will be.
-
I will be upgrading the forums to 4.0 sometime this week, hopefully today. The forums will be locked during the upgrade. I'm not sure how long it will take, so I'll say at least overnight.

One of the little projects I'm working on for the new forums is a Dukes of Hazzard Anniversary calendar that will display notable events in the Dukes history, like debuts of certain episodes, birthdays of the cast & crew, etc. If any of you have ideas pertaining to this project, feel free to post about them here. I have lots of fun stuff in the works and this is just one of them!

Most of the problems with sigs had to do with accounts that had images. I think most of the regulars came through unscathed, but I know there are some accounts with sig problems. I think most avatars came through ok too. There are a few little quirks I'm finding here and there and fixing them as I go along. If any of you find any issues, let me know in this thread. One new cool feature is that you can see a notice on the chat tab in the forum navigation bar that shows how many people are in the chatroom. Pretty neat. Hopefully that wil get people using it more. If we get to the point where we regularly have more than 5 people wanting to use it, I'll upgrade to a larger room.

Well, I thought I hadn't, but I have. For those of you who haven't, here's a link to it on YouTube. http://youtu.be/Wa1ixjwMSSk

Yeah, the white might take some getting used to. Not sure if I'll keep it that way or not, but it does make things a bit more readable, doesn't it? When I upgrade the board to 4.0, I might switch things up again. I had a great skin I'd created for 4.0 that used the dark background. Unfortunately, I found too many issues with 4.0 at the moment, the biggest of which was not interpreting BBCode correctly. I really didn't feel like going through and updating 4000 posts to fix the BBCode. (I know, I'm lazy. LOL!) And I couldn't find a resolution on the IP community forum. So, until the next 4.X release and I get adventurous enough to do so, we're using a slightly earlier version. At any rate, that's the reason the upgrade took too long. The first migration to 4.0 revealed the BBCode issue, so I started over and migrated to 3.4.7. That migration went well, but I found a bug in the moderation tools (which I found out later had a workaround). So, hopeful that a successful migration to an earlier version would fix the BBCode problem in 4.0, I upgraded, only to find the issue still there. UGH. So, I started over and went back to 3.4.7. LOL. Not exactly a smooth transition, but I think things are mostly working now. In the next few weeks, I'll probably open tickets with IP to address some of the issues I've found, but for the meantime, enjoy the new forums!

The Duke family lives in Hazzard County, Georgia, where they run a farm and always find themselves at odds with the corrupt local government. Their patriarch, Jesse Duke, is a former moonshiner known for his wisdom and integrity—probably the most respected man in six counties. After raising his orphaned nephews, Bo and Luke Duke, and niece, Daisy Duke, Jesse gave up moonshining to keep the boys out of prison after they were caught on a run. As part of their probation, Bo and Luke can’t carry firearms or leave Hazzard County, but that doesn’t stop them from stirring up trouble—especially when it comes to fighting corruption. They help run the farm, drive around in their souped-up orange Dodge Charger, the General Lee, and take every opportunity to outsmart Hazzard’s crooked officials. Daisy works as a waitress at the Boar’s Nest, the most popular bar in town, owned by the greedy and scheming Boss Jefferson Davis "J.D." Hogg. Boss Hogg controls nearly everything in Hazzard, including Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane, who was once a respected lawman but turned crooked after losing most of his pension in a failed bond election. Now, Boss is smuggling illegal slot machines into Hazzard, planning to distribute them through Rosco. After hijacking the shipment, Bo and Luke come up with a plan to distribute the slot machines themselves—not for personal gain, but to help the community. They arrange for civic clubs and organizations to use the machines, donating the proceeds to fund renovations for the local orphanage, which is on the verge of being shut down by the health department.

I have finished migrating to the new forum software. Welcome to the new forums. Excuse the dust as I get some of the kinks out and continue to tweak the look and feel. Not everything tranferred as smoothly as I'd hoped, so you may have to re-do signature pics or avatars. If you find any anomalies, please PM me or post here about them so I can investigate. Thanks!

I am now the proud owner of new forum software. There will likely be downtime tonight. I'll post a notice at least an hour before I start the migration (probably around 8pm PST) and will be locking the board once it starts.
-
I think I've settled on IP.Board. There will be downtime this weekend as I install and migrate the old board. I'll post a notice and lock the board when the migration is going on (probably late Friday night).

Oh yeah, I completely broke the downloads section. LOL! I guess I know what I'm working on tonight.

Keep the input coming. Good stuff. Hoss, part of the reason I'm switching is because VBulletin makes is so hard to customize the look and heaven forbid I apply security patches, it obliterates half my changes. They've really gone downhill since they were bought and I finally reached my limit of frustration. The gallery has always felt kind of kludged together. It's supposed to use the forum template, but it just doesn't work well. So, it'll be nice to have everything in the forums with consistent look and feel. Oh, I remember, the another reason I mentioned the marketplace is because I loved the download feature it had that would be great for the artwork/crosswords/etc Hoss has made available on occasion. It kept track of downloads, versioning, etc. Really slick. I may be able to find a plugin/mod for that though. Or we can just stick with having the downloads in Wordpress for now. Which.... I had better go check still works. I made some changes to the site this weekend and may have broken some links. LOL.

Thanks, Rog. That means a lot to me to know that folks appreciate what I've done. Two years ago, I had been unemployed for two years, no unemployment benefits left, no income, hardly any money in savings, very ill, and living off credit cards. I came very close to turning the lights off on this place, but it was folks like you that made me determined to keep HazzardNet up and running. It's hard times like those that teach you who your friends really are and who they aren't.

It does. Agreed, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else was interested. Yes, but it's kind of a mess. Apparently, both IP and XF can import Photopost galleries into the forum, which I think will be better in the long run. I just mentioned it because they have modules for that and we have occasionally had folks on here trying to sell Dukes stuff, probably not enough to warrant buying the module. Plus, I just realized I'd have to make some configuration changes to the server to accommodate it, so that's out. IP comes with a built in chat room for 5 users. Do we need more? The next level is 20 users. So do I. I'll do what I can when things get set up and then people can make suggestions for changes.

Also, for comparison, here are the appearances of the demos after customizing them. This is the IP.Board demo. I will probably be able to customize it further if I purchase it, but this is as much as I could do with the demo. This is the Xenforo demo. Much easier to customize the look without having to touch CSS and HTML files. What do you guys think?
-
I'm trying out demos of each software I'm considering to see how they are from a usability standpoint and also in terms of customization and administration. Both Xenforo and IP.board have their plusses and minuses. There are, of course, add-ons for each and I'm wondering what, if anything, you guys would like. Blogs? Gallery? Marketplace? Wiki-type functionality? Anything I missed? Do any of you still use the chat room? There are options to integrate a chat room too, which might be easier than the current third party option. Also, what do you guys think of the current color scheme? Keep it? Too dark? Now's the time to give your input. I should be making a decision later this week.

Sounds like great fun, Hoss. It's been a long time since I've been to a car show. My dad used to take me a lot when I was younger. And then there were Cruisin' 50's nights every Friday in the summer. Fun times.
-
That's one of the few I've been looking at. Another one I'm looking at is xenforo.com.
-
Just a heads up, folks. I'm seriously considering switching to another forum platform and am currently investigating alternatives. I will, hopefully, be making the change sometime in the next week, so there may be some intermittent forum downtime. I want to provide a better experience, including mobile, for everyone and the current software is not as flexible as I would like. If you have any suggestions or would like to provide some input, feel free to post here or PM me.

It's a shame they tore Laramie Street down. I got to explore it for a few minutes while on the set of the last reunion. I wish I'd had hours instead of minutes. It was very, very cool, especially for fans of westerns.

We lost James Best last night
Meadowmufn replied to RT22306's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
I got to see Jimmie in action on the Dukes reunion set. Not only was he amazing in front of the camera, but I swear he knew more about the workings BEHIND the camera than anyone else on the set. His knowledge was amazing, such a talent. I'm so grateful he invited me to see that. -
James Best Has Passed Away
Meadowmufn replied to Meadowmufn's topic in James Best / Rosco P. Coltrane
He and Burt were good friends. I think Burt even attended his acting school. He told Jimmie back in the 70's that in a few years he'd be a household name and he was right. -

Thanks, Roger. He was quite a character, definitely one of a kind. I was fortunate to spend a lot of personal time with him, fishing, talking, joking, discussing creative endeavors, and just plain carrying on. Jimmie would still tear up when he talked about Sorrell. I know they're together once again and that makes me smile.
