Luke swallowed. "Jaime...I meant what I said earlier...I'll take care of ya...if...if you wanted...you can be...part of our family."

"Jaime...look...I know I said some things...that upset ya...I didn't mean to..."

Luke nodded a little

"Did you tell them?" he asked gently.

Luke nodded. "What'd they say to that?"

Luke nodded a little, not sure what to say.

"How ya feelin?" he asked taking her hand.

Luke swallowed and sat in the chair by the bed. "Jaime, darlin...it's me...Luke."

Luke swallowed and stood up, following the doctors to Jaime's room.

Luke swallowed hard, hating that he felt like a criminal.

Luke didn't say anything else. He asn't sure what else to say, so he just sat...and waited.

Luke swallowed, nodding a little. He wished that he could see Jaime. Then, as a thought occured to him he starts thinking about her. "I'm nearby Jaime...you ain't alone...I promise." He didn't know if she could hear his thoughts or not, but if she could Luke would at least be with her that way.

"No...I'm far from it."

Luke sank into a nearby chair.

Luke sighed but managed a nod.

"I know that...meantime...while you're all wading through the red tape a little girl's life is at stake!"

"They'll give her back...you can't do that!"

In my Unofficial companion " there is a quote by Waldron which says: "The backstory, which we never really got, is that Bo Luke and Daisy are all cousins whose parents were killed in the same automobile accident. We had a family that had to stay together, because they only had each other."

Daisy smiled at Cooter. "Bye."

Daisy rubbed his back. "She'll be back...."

"Sure thing honey...come on over."

Daisy sighed. "What do you want me to do Cooter? Bo an' Luke ain't even left their room yet...Luke's pretty upset about it all..."

"No sir," began Luke. "Well, I mean...yes I spose legally I did...but I couldn't leave her there...and if it's a crime t' keep a child from bein' beaten and chained to a wall... an t wanna give her a chance at a normal life...then I'm guilty...an I aint sorry," he added hooking his thumbs in his jeans.
