  1. Not sure, but is it Enos Strate to the Top? (Probably misspelled the title lol)
  2. Mine's a little short - and about thirty minutes late:oops:, but, it's finally in. (Stupid writer's block!) Maybe the first story I started will be ready by next Christmas! Lol. Can't wait to read all of the stories.
  3. It would take industrial strength duct tape to keep any of our crew in the box long enough to get it to the victim! We don't have snow often down here, so we have to use something with wheels, lol. I wish we could do sleigh rides, though - I've always wanted a white Christmas, but never seen one. It's always fun to do the carriage rides - especially when you've been doing it as long as we have! My sisters and I seem to be memorable people- the drivers tend to remeber us each year. (We get the same reaction on our fourth trip through rides at Disney World!) I have noticed that a lot of places are scaling back on the decorations, this year. I think the carriage rides keep the people in Fountain Inn decorating more - can't let your neighbor outdo you! Lol. Yeah, Geezer Day tends to tax your patience, lol. No one but my sisters understood why I thought it was so funny that my ex-mother-in-law's birthday was December 23. I thought Geezer Day was fitting for her! We eat pretty much the same things at Christmas as we do for Thanksgiving. My daddy is allergic to pork, so we can't have ham for holidays at home. At work, the meat depends on what the home office is willing to supply. We have had everything from traditional ham or turkey to chicken strips or barbeque. We used to do traditional for our dysfunctional Christmas, but decided that was too much work. Last year we just had hamburgers and hot dogs. Elizabeth and I love pretty much any video games. I have all of the Dukes games for Playstation - we each take turns on the missions until we finallly manage to beat them. On the computer, we mostly play time management games like Diner Dash and hidden object games like Prime Suspects. As for board games - mostly we play Clue and Trivial Pursuit type games.
  4. Thank you, Sabrina! I'm impressed that you remembered how to sign in! lol For the record - sorry about what happened to the bridge . I still blame your cousin, though!
  5. Sounds like fun, Redneck girl! I never thought of wrapping the kids - it might keep them busy for a few seconds, if we did it right, lol. Our Christmas is kind of boring, but it is always fun. At some point in December, my mother, sisters, and I go to my cousin's house for lunch. We've always been really close, so it is a way to catch up on anything we may have missed throughout the year. My sisters and I go out to look at Christmas lights around the middle of the month. There is a small town about 15 minutes away from my house that hires carriages from Charleston to take people around for a tour of the lights. Afterwards, we go through a beautiful subdivision where just about every house is covered in lights. Then, if we have time, we head up to the science center on the mountain, where they have a huge drive through light display. (Yeah, we love lights and decorations - as my sisters put it, "Tacky is good at Christmas!") For the last 13 years, my sisters and I have been celebrating something we call Geezer Day. That is the day before the day before Christmas. It's origins are a long story, but basically, it is the day when all of the little old folks that won't travel over 35 are out on the road enmasse! On this day, you cannot fuss about anyone being in your way on the road - it is their day and they are allowed to celebrate! Just wish them a Happy Geezer Day and go on. In honor of this special time, we exchange silly little gifts - just to prove that we aren't geezers yet. (One year I got them coloring books and crayons, and my oldest sister got us pop-up books.) Like Thanksgiving, I have a small pre-Christmas with my "disfunctional family." We haven't decided on our meal for this year, yet. Have to do that soon. We exchange our gifts then and just enjoy a relatively stress-free time in the middle of the Christmas rush. I also organize a Christmas party for my work every year. Our home office supplies the meat and every one brings a side dish. It isn't much, but it gives us a chance to get together without having to worry about work issues. At home, we always open one present on Christmas eve. It started when we were little Daddy said it was important to open our family presents so they would be out of the way for Santa to put his around the tree. Now he swears that we can't wait for Christmas day, but, if none of us mention opening a present, he starts hinting until he finally can't stand it anymore and asks me to pull out a certain gift for Momma. Then we have to open one apiece, just so she will open hers, of course. Christmas day, we open the rest of the gifts, then start cooking. My middle sister and I usually get at least one video game between us, so we divide our time between helping Momma in the kitchen and playing games in my room. If my oldest sister gets a board game, we all three get together after the dishes are done and play at the dining room table for hours. I know, long post, but Christmas is my favorite holiday!
  6. See, this is why I try to avoid shopping, or even leaving the house on black Friday - people lose their minds! My sister was telling me that two men killed each other in a Toys - R -Us somewhere on the west coast. Can you imagine being the child whose parent was killed or killed someone else over a stupid toy they thought you might want? Christmas would just never be the same again.
  7. 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Depends on how hard it is to wrap! 2. Real tree or artificial? Artificial - don't have to worry about the cats drinking the poisonous water that way, and it is easier on my asthma 3. When do you put up the tree?At home - Whenever my sister and I can get my parents out of the house long enough - it is really hard to decorate with them around. At work - Thanksgiving night 4. When do you take down the tree? At home - same problem as putting it up. At work - New Year's night 5. Do you like eggnog? Depends on the brand. 6. Favorite gift received as a child? A toss up between two. One was a black and white plastic cow that drank water from her trough when you pumped her tail, then gave "milk". Always kind of bothered me that you had to take her udders off and put in this little tablet to make the water turn white, though - just seemed wrong somehow. My other favorite was a little stuffed cougar that my sister gave me when I was two - not only did I drag her around all throughout my childhood, but she has gone everywhere I have lived, including my college dorm! 7. Hardest person to buy for? my parents - they really need hobbies! 8. Do you have a nativity scene? A nativity scene? No - we have a ton of them between my sister and me. Her favorite is a ceramic one that her friends made for her by hand. I've never figured out how they did that! I think my favorite is one that I got from a little shop in my hometown - it is made entirely of bells. (I collect bells) 9. Mail or email cards? Both - I always mail them, but I have a cousin and a friend that love the silly e-cards, so I usually send them those, too. 10.Worst Christmas gift ever received? The same Bee Gees tape over and over again for every gift giving occasion! (My ex could never remember which one he had given me, so he always got the same one. After nine years, you would think law of averages would have gotten me a different one eventually!) 11. Favorite Christmas movie? The George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol, and the real How The Grinch Stole Christmas (NOT Jim Carrey!!) 12. When do you start shopping for Christmas? As soon as this Christmas is over! I'm usually done by Halloween and picking up little extra things until the week or so before. 13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?I plead the fifth! 14. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Hawaiian Pie! - always a favorite - and Strossner's fruit cake - they are almost all nuts, yum! 15. Lights on the tree? The more the merrier! 16. Favorite Christmas Song ? Silly - Snoopy's Christmas, I Want A Hippopotomaus For Christmas, and the Eartha Kitt version of Santa Baby Traditional - Silent Night adn Away in a Manger 17. Travel at Christmas or stay at home? Stay home 18. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Yep...Dasher, Dancer, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Vixen, Prancer and of course Rudolph. 19. Angel on the treetop or a Star? At home - A Boyds bear angel At work - Star on one, a red bow on the other 20. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Both - One on Christmas Eve, the rest on Christmas Day 21. Most annoying thing about this time of year. Crowds 22. Favorite ornament theme or color? Any and all 23. Favorite thing about this time of year? Carriage rides through Fountain Inn to see the lights, riding through the drive through displays at the science center with my sisters 24. What do you want for Christmas this year? Can't think of a single thing 25. Who is most likely to respond to this? Hopefully a lot of people - I love reading these things!
  8. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Hawaiian pie is something that my momma got from my Aunt Doris - I don't know where she got the recipe. It has graham cracker crumbs, bananas, crushed pineapple, eagle brand milk, lemon juice, dream whip, pecans, and cherries. If I can find my copy of the recipe, I will post it on here. Everyone we have ever served it to has loved it. This year, we had chili with a bunch of different toppings for our party. Like I said, it isn't much, but it's a nice break in the stress of the holidays. I'm not sure what we're doing for Christmas. We will be figuring that out some time this week. I missed the parade this year. (Stupid twelve hour shifts! )I really wanted to see it - especially since Darius Rucker is from South Carolina.
  9. There's actually a radio station here that starts playing nothing but Christmas music on the weekends beginning on November 1. On Thanksgiving that one and another one play all Christmas all the time. (But, yes, I did break down and listen to my Muppets Christmas cd on my way to work today.) I pretty much love all Christmas music, but my favorite silly Christmas song is 'Snoopy vs the Red Baron." (Yes, I'm a geek, I admit it.)
  10. Great topic, Redneck girl! I've always said that Thanksgiving doesn't get enough attention. Our family celebration is pretty low-key. (Especially considering the fact that I've had to work every holiday for the last twelve years!) We have the usual turkey and fixings - with Hawaiian Pie, the best part of the meal. My middle sister and I usually watch the Macy's parade, if I can stay up that long after working all night, and after supper, both of my sisters and I go to K-mart and Wal-mart. (We hate the crowds that are out that Friday, but love to pick up some little decoration for the house or the yard to start things out right!) That night, I go to work and decorate both security offices for Christmas. The guys I work with have pretty much resigned themselves to the fact that they will be recruited to help me. The Friday or Saturday before Thanksgiving, however, I always have a party with my "disfunctional family." Two of my closest friends, their kids, and our significant others - if we have any at the time - get together to have our own Thanksgiving dinner. (We do the same thing a little before Christmas.) )The difference is, we usually don't have traditional food. Last year we had Mexican, and this year we're doing chili and cornbread. Afterwards, we play games or just sit around and talk while the kids watch holiday dvds. It's usually a pretty good party, all in all -especially since we have at least five kids running around ranging in age from seven or eight to seventeen. (Not having any children of my own, it gives me a chance to spoil someoneelse's.
  11. I'll give it a try - since I missed the Halloween challenge, might as well try my other favorite holiday! Not to mention, the new avatar would be an improvement, if I failed:D
  12. Okay, I know this sounds really disgusting, and I didn't really expect to be able to force myself to taste it the first time, but it is really good. It sounded like something Boss Hogg would eat. 1/2 lb Velveeta 1c (2 sticks) butter 1 c creamy peanut butter 1tsp. vanilla extract 1c chopped nuts (I used pecans in mine) 2 (16oz. each) boxes of confectioners sugar Line a 9 by 2 -inch square pan with tin foil, and lightly spray with cooking spray. In a sauce pan over medium heat, melt the cheese until it has just started to get creamy, then add the butter and melt completely.Add peanut butter and stir until smooth. Remove from the heat and add vanilla and nuts. Empty sugar into a large bowl and add cheese mixture. Stir until it is completely incorporated. ( It works better to stir it for a minute or two, then finish with your hands.) The candy will be very stiff. Remove candy from the bowl and press firmly and evenly into the pan. Pat top of the fudge with a paper towel to remove the excess oil. Refrigerate until firm. Like I said, I know how it sounds, but it kind of tastes like a no-bake oatmeal cookie! (My favorite, but this is much easier, and doesn't tend to fail if the weather dosen't cooperate.)
  13. I know I've seen the episode you're talking about, I think it is "The Fortune Tellers," but I'm not sure. I know Lulu is really into astrology and stuff in that episode, but I can't remember if Rosco is or not. It's going to drive me crazy until I figure it out for sure. Oh well, just another excuse to watch more Dukes!
  14. Hey, y'all I just wanted to let you know that Lawrence's story is finally finished. I tell you, he was nearly impossible to get to focus! Thank you, again for the suggestions. Enos's car ended up as Possum. The story will be posted on fanfiction.net, for anyone that is interested, as soon as my sister - Sabrina Duncan - finishes betareading it for me.
  15. 1. Pours a pitcher of beer over Milo's head 2. Luke 3. Tennessee 4. I think it was solitare, but I'm not sure
  16. Speaking as an animal lover, I don't have a problem with horse racing,as long as it is done responsibly. That said, I don't really know a whole lot about it. I understand both of your points, but I am wondering, do they run females that have been bred in the past? Most animals tend to lose calcium after being bred - even a year or two later the bones can be more fragile than they should be. (I lost a boxer and an iguana because of this - long stories.) To me, this would be another reason not to let females race, since it would make tragedies like Eight Belles more likely to occur.
  17. I think the name of that episode was "The Big Heist" or something like that. I believe that it was from the second season, but I'm not positive. I know that Daisy picks up a guy at the Boar's Nest who had just stolen money from Boss and hidden it in the back of the truck. I think he took it because Boss had cheatd him over some incubators for chicken eggs.
  18. The library is in Evansville, Indiana. It was named after the man who built it, Willard Carpenter. Supposedly, his daughter haunts the building because her father left it to the town in his will instead of giving it to her. (At least, that is the story I was told.) Yeah, the Stanley hotel is a really interesting place. You can understand why it was the location for "The Shining!" Even without Jack Nicholson running around, the place is kind of creepy looking. Mansfield Reformatory made an interesting episode, too. Could you imagine being locked up in that place - or even working there, which would be almost as creepy!
  19. General Grant - Actually, I have several other animals, too. The ones I listed are the ones that I spend most of my time with (espaecially Denver and Frankie). I guess that Frankie would be considered more my "Velvet Ears," since she is a special needs baby and needs more attention than the others.
  20. Sorry to hear about your lost friends, but that is a very sweet, and clever, way to remember them.
  21. Yeah, Ghost Hunters is one of my favorite shows. If you want to do a little "hunting" on your own, you should go to the Willard Library site. They have ghost cams set up in several locations that let you watch for ghosts and post your findings!
  22. Tough decision! As far as the boys go, Luke has always been my favorite, because he can think his way out of just about any situation. Of course, I have always liked Daisy just as much - if only because she isn't afraid to jump into any situation, and can always keep the boys under control. (Even if she has to use a frying pan to do it, sometimes!)
