  1. The race Sunday night was pretty good, even though Carl had a rough night. I can't even imagine sitting in a car and driving that long with a broken foot. I've never had anything broken, but I'm sure that it takes some endurance to get thru a race. I'm not sure if I missed something or not during the race though. I know Jimmy broke an axle, but didn't Vickers brake one too? I'm not sure why Jimmy had to go to the garage the first time when Vickers team fixed his axle in his pit stall. I know why Jimmy had to go back to the garage the second time, but I don't understand the first trip. Maybe it's just different team strategies or something. Or maybe I just totally misunderstood the situation. I was playing with my nephew on and off so that could be a very big possibility.

I'm okay with Kasey winning, but I was really rooting for Kevin Harvick to do it. His nickname is Happy Harvick, but he hasn't been very happy this year. He just doesn't seem like the same driver this season. Also, when Kasey won I had a flashback of the Lowe's race two years ago. My cousins and I went to that race and were camping in one of the speedway's campgrounds. Kasey won and we were two tents down from some of his fans. All night all we heard was "What's the name? KASEY KANE!" Grrr, that got so tiring after a while. It finally quit at around 3 or 4 am. I like Kane, but that experience put me off a little.

I thought we were in for a show when Kurt slamed out of his car, but he really calmed himself down by the time he gave his interview. I just had to wonder how his brother would have handled the situation. I can't imagine it would have been good. :-o I did like your thought of Bo and Luke sitting in the stands. That would be awesome. Now I want to go to the Atlanta race. To watch the race of course, but to look for Bo and Luke too. ;)

It turns out that I don't get to go to the truck races this weekend. I just don't have the funds to drive to St Louis this weekend and then turn around and drive back next weekend for the Toby Keith/Trace Adkins concert. I'm not missing my Toby concert though. I've been waiting for him to come back to this area for a while now, and when I won the tickets I was (and am) so excited. I can't wait! Now if the race tickets had been for a Cup race or maybe even a Nationwide it would have been a harder decision. There is just so much going on in the next few weeks that I don't have the money to do it all. I'm going to Connecticut with my boss for some more job training by our home office. So that will take money too. The tickets aren't going to waste though, I'm giving them to someone else who likes to watch racing.

Well, if you ever get the chance to read that book, I thought it was great. I love reading. I have ever since I was a child. My mom used to read me two stories before my nap, and if I could con her into it, it would be three. I almost always have a book close at hand. I read and re-read them when I can't afford to get a new one. I really like mysteries, in fact I'm excited about Dan Brown's new book coming out Tuesday. It's the third in the Robert Langdon series. (Angels & Demons and The DaVinci Code were the first two if you haven't read them or seen the movies.) It doesn't have to be mysteries though, I read just about anything. Just about.

Keep the long messages coming! It's great reading your posts and discussing racing with you.

  2. Hey, hey! Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. This weekend was crazy for sure. I had my 18 month old nephew. He wears me out, but I love every second I spend with him. After reading one of your other posts, I had to laugh a little. I too go to my parents to do laundry. I have a deal worked out with my mom. I get free laundry detergent and softner from where I work, so I supply all of that for the use of her washer and dryer. Of course I also supply my two brothers and sister-in-law with it too. It works out pretty good because we both save money this way. Plus I also get to play on the farm; with the animals, on the fourwheelers, etc. Its good to get away from traffic and noise sometimes, and I love spending time with my family. My biggest wish is to find a job closer to them so I can move back into the area. Really an hour isn't that bad, but I feel separated from everything. I hope that makes sense. The only down side was the lack of cable, but now that the races are on ABC... no worries.

  3. Maybe we should start a Nascar thread? What do you think?

  4. It's almost Sunday! I'm ready for it! lol I know what you mean about 43 drivers on the track. And even then, some people's favorites are past drivers like Dale Sr, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, etc. It's just so neat to me to see how and why people chose their fav's. I know my cousin really didn't care for Jeff Gordon a whole lot, but his 7 year old son, Wyatt, decided that was the driver he likes. (I'm sure it has nothing to do with all of the Jeff Gordon cars and stuff that I kept buying his dad to tease him with. Not my fault. lol) So now he keeps an eye on Jeff too, so he can tell Wyatt how he's doing during the race. One of his girls was trying to decide who she wanted to root for and kept asking me if I liked this driver or that driver. I finally told her it doesn't matter who I like, it just matters who she likes. She of course told me then that she was going to root for Kyle Busch. (It turns out she was joking with me. Whew! But if that really was her choice I wouldn't have said anything.) I know I chose Edwards because he's a hometown hero, besides a good guy and a good driver. My sister-in-law likes Jr because he's good looking and a good driver. My brother likes Edwards and Mark Martin. You know, I'm not sure why he likes Martin, but he's been supporting him since his Roush days. My dad has chosen Tony Stewart and the Old Man, that's what he calls Martin. It's funny, Martin is younger than my dad by about 13 years. lol My cousin's wife made a comment at Talladega this spring that she was going to start rooting for Denny Hamlin because his tshirts and everything are purple. lol And then you have my mom, she says her favorite driver is whoever wins that week. I was speechless for a while. It's hard to argue with her logic though. lol

I didn't see the Nationwide race. I pretty much go to my parents farm every weekend to get out of the city. They unfortunately do not have cable or the internet or anything. So I have been going to my brothers to watch the races when possible. He lives closer than I do and it's a plus getting to play with my little red-headed nephew. This is also why I'm not on HNet or the weekend, no internet connection. *sigh* I'm excited about going to the truck races though. I'll have to study up a bit on who drives that's for sure.

I'm really undecided on the Chase format. I don't hate it, but I think it could be made better. I think they should award more points for actually winning a race. That way people aren't just cruising around the track. Let's see some all out racing for the win, you know what I mean? That's just an opinion I have. I really don't care for the "car of tomorrow" either. I know it makes things much safer, but what about individuality? Things are so restricted, that you can't change anything it seems. How are the teams supposed to advance and make themselves better? It's like the old timers say, Race it on Sunday so people will want to buy it on Monday. Anyway, these are just some of my opinions.

I'm not sure how big of a reader you are, but if you enjoy reading I would suggest the book "Driving with the Devil: Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels, and the Birth of NASCAR". I enjoyed it quite a bit and didn't know a lot of the beginning stuff of nascar. I'm a big reader though and usually get through one or two books a week. I read almost anything I can get my hands on. lol

Thanks for writing such a long post, it was a pleasure to read and I loooooovvvvveeee talking racin'! Very few people here at work watch it so I really don't get to talk about it until the weekends. And I like hearing others opinions.

Okay, so now look how long my post has come out. lol

  5. Welcome Raven! Hope you enjoy your time here, it's great!
  6. Happy Birthday and many more!

  7. Hey Garrett, sorry I didn't respond quicker. First things first, as far as your comment about Kurt Busch, you didn't offend me at all. We all have different opinions, likes and dislikes. That's what makes things interesting. Can you imagine if we all liked the exact same drivers? How boring would that be? I even know some people that like Kyle Busch. I question their taste sometimes, but its their choice. lol

I know what you mean; it's a long, cold stretch between Homestead and Daytona. I use that time to quilt and sew with my mom instead, but I'm always ready for that first race. I'm really excited right now though. Yesterday one of my local radio stations were giving away tickets for the truck races in St. Louis. I won! I've never even watched the truck races, but my brother tells me there is even more beatin' and bangin' than the cup series. I'm ready for the race this weekend at Atlanta. I love night races! Then on to Richmond and the Chase. As the points stand right now, I'm pretty happy with the drivers that are in the Chase. How 'bout you?

  8. Hey Garrett, good to hear from ya! I have to agree, I didn't care much for who won. Although I'm not totally against Kurt. He's kind of grown on me. Can't stand his brother though. I'm sure I would have been rooting for Martin if I'd seen it (since Carl was so far behind). Do you know if that was the last race before the Chase starts? Guess I need to do a little investigatin'. Have a great weekend!

  9. I didn't get to watch the race Saturday night after all. Instead I got to drive for two hours to go videotape my dad at his tractor pull. Was the race any good? My brother called me a few times with updates, so I kind of knew what was going on. I'm not happy with the winner, but the second place winner is awesome.

  10. Never Wanted Nothing More ~ Kenny Chesney Hey Roger, Bon Jovi sang that song I think.
  11. Not to worry Garrett, I never get bored with this subject! I even get Nascar Illustrated mailed to me just so I can keep up with it all. lol Thanks for the heads up on the driving experience too. I will definitely have to look into that. For them and for me if I don't have to drive. I'm not sure I could do the whole training thing and then driving around the track. I like going fast, but I also like feeling in control if that makes any sense. The souvenir trailers are amazing, there are row upon row of them all lined up and three or four deep depending on the track. Some drivers will have more than one trailer in the group. Like Jr has at least three if not more, and his are always busy with Jr nation fans. Then they have the off the wall trailers like Ricky Bobby (Talladega Nights), and Digger (Fox's camera gopher), and at Bristol they have Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon Moonshine stand. These are all of the "official" souvenir places. Then you have what I call tent city. These are the unofficial souvenir stands and sometimes their prices are less, not always though. They have more variety and some really off the wall things there. It can take up to a full day to look through souvenir alley and tent city if your actually stopping to look at things. It's fun. Every race that I have been to has a big screen on the infield somewhere. They do the replays of the wrecks and mishaps as well as zooming in on cars. This is a good thing if you don't have or don't want to carry binoculars on some of the tracks. And you can also rent or take your own scanner. You can listen to the tv station throught the scanner if you want or the radio station. I usually listen to the drivers themselves. Sometimes this is the best entertainment of the whole race. The drivers don't hold back like they have to on tv. They just let it rip. I listened to Tony Stewart singing a song once as they cruised around the track on a caution lap. Plus the scanner blocks out some if not most of the noise so you don't go home with a splitting headache. (At least I tend too.) Yep, I'm ready to watch. Hopefully I get to see it. If not I'm sure my brother will give me an overview. At least he'll tell me who wins. lol Have a great weekend!
  12. Ooh, Chicagoland would be fun. I've priced tickets there before and I have to agree, sky high. That's one of the closest tracks to me too. It would be between Chicagoland and Kansas. I've been to a few race tracks so far, I've only been really into it the last 5 years. But the first time you go to a race, you are addicted. My friend from work took me to my first race at Kansas, since then I've been to at least one race a year if not more. I've been to Kansas, Talladega, Charlotte (Lowe's), and Bristol. Next year we are set for Bristol and Charlotte in the spring. For some reason we always go to the spring races. I was at Dukesfest 2006 (I think) in Nashville and that was a nice track too. My brother actually went to the Nationwide race there when our very own Bo Duke was there. He got some pictures for me of course (I might have had to hurt him otherwise ) I've also been on the Indianapolis track once a long time ago. That was before my interest in racin' began, so I didn't get as much out of the experience as I would now. That driving experience sounds awesome! That is one thing I have never done. I don't know a whole lot about it, never paid much attention. So do they have a driver that drives you around the track at top speeds or are you just driving normal speeds? I'm sure I could look it up, but it will be more interesting to get your first hand take on it. I wonder if they ever let the people drive the cars themselves? This is something I need to look into for my brother and cousin. I bet they'd have a blast and I'd have favorite sister/cousin status for a while. This actually happened to me this spring at Bristol. Carl wasn't doing so well, none of my favorites were up front and Kyle Busch was leading (Not one of my favorites). It got a little boring on the track, but I started people watching which is another one of my favorite pasttimes. Or you can go down and look through the souvenir trailers. That's always fun, although I try to do that before or after the race. I just love everything about racing; the camping out(we always stay at a campground close to the track except for Bristol, too cold), the people, the noise... the party. Keep right on talking, I'm with you! "I love it, I love it, khee, khee!)
  13. East Bound and Down ~ Jerry Reed I couldn't resist using this one.
  14. Dale Jr is a good pick Daisy. I like him too. He's a good racer despite rumors to the contrary. And of course he's not bad to look at either. Garrett, I do understand what your saying. It makes perfect sense to me. I guess my top four are Edwards, Jr, Martin, and Stewart. I have my fingers crossed Carl will get his first win of the year Saturday night. I'm ready to see another backflip. Have you ever been to Bristol for a race? It's so amazing. I got to go this spring for the first time. It's so different from the other tracks I've been to. I love the atmosphere at all the tracks, but Bristol is one of the most intense. You can't hear the person next to you because of the noise. It's so awesome. All except the height. There are a lot of hills and stairs. Let me tell you, for someone who doesn't really have a head for heights that wasn't fun.
  15. Thanks for the welcome Garrett! Glad ta meet ya. As far as racing goes, I can talk quite a bit about it myself. I am addicted to it! Edwards was a natural choice for me I guess since he is from Columbia Missouri, just up the road from me. And I love those backflips, very original. I'm also a Jr fan as well as Mark Martin and Tony Stewart. Actually it's easier for me to name the drivers I don't like than to name all of the ones I do like. So any time ya want to talk racing I'm ready! (Great race this past Sunday! I really thought Jr might take the winner's spot.)
  16. Baby's gone home to mama ~ Josh Turner
  17. Thanks daisydukexenosstrait, and its good to know you too!
  18. Anybody heard Toby Keith's new song, "This American Ride" yet? I kinda like it myself. Toby tells it like it is that's for sure.
  19. North to Alaska ~ Johnny Horton I love Johnny Horton (and John Wayne)!
  20. Hey to all the Duke fans out there! I'm not necessarily new, I've lurked about for a few years now. Just hadn't gotten around to introducing myself. I first started watching the Dukes when CMT started running them. Apparently my family watched them on Friday nights, but I was too young to stay up that late (born in '78). I may have started late, but I've immersed myself in the Dukedom since. I have all 7 seasons, both reunion movies, and I occasionally write fanfiction. I'm also a huge Nascar fan, so if anyone wants to talk racin' give me a yell! GO CARL EDWARDS!!!! Yeehaw and I'll catch ya'll on the flipside!
  21. Thanks daisydukeXenosstrait for the birthday wishes! Hope you have a great week!

  22. Thanks Garrett! It was a great day, and ya know, turning 30 really wasn't so bad. Thanks again and I hope you have a great week!

  23. I have to agree with the consensus here. Let's give the guy a break. We have no idea what is going on in his personal life, or what the deeper story is. In addition, from all of the great reviews he has been receiving for his performances at the Metro Room and again in Chicago, it apparently is not affecting his performances. Unless we can say we have stepped into his shoes and walked around in them for a while, none of us really knows. I will just say good luck Tom and my prayers are with you.
