Big Daddy.....season 5
Boss's father once told him that he would only inherit his millions if he becomes an honest, successful person who is loved by his fellow citizens. So when Boss gets a telegram that Big Daddy Hogg is coming to town he gets a little nervous and he stages things to make it look like everybody loves him and before you know it, Big Daddy's limo is pulling into town for the reunion. Earlier, Boss had Rosco switch the General Lee's CNH 320 license plate with one on a pick-up truck of a guy named Jenkins, who had just gotten the bad end of a deal with Boss for stolen merchandise. While Cooter is gassing Jenkins' truck up he notices the General's plate on it and calls the boys. Jenkins sees Boss on the street with his Daddy and Boss wants to show how good he is so he gives Jenkins the money he deserved. Moments later Jenkins sees Ernie, Big Daddy's limo driver, and Waylon hints that Ernie or Big Daddy or both are crooked. While Boss is on the street giving away money, Big Daddy and Ernie conspire to steal Boss's money. Later, the 4 Dukes catch Jenkins and got the plate back. Jenkins escaped but not before tipping them that Ernie is crooked. Big Daddy and Ernie see Boss open his safe and Ernie pulls out a gun and takes $50,000 from him. Ernie is only pretending to be working alone. Big Daddy is in on it. When Ernie tries to leave, the limo is blocked in so he hijacks Vance and the General and later kicks Vance out. Out in the country Cooter sees Ernie and Big Daddy meet up and Ernie abandons the General and hops in the limo. The Dukes figured out that they had been working together and told Boss on the CB but of course he didn't believe them. Everybody ended up meeting and sorting things out. Big Daddy thought Boss would be mad but just the opposite was true. Boss was proud of him and happy to know that he was just like his Daddy. He later realized that his Daddy kept $5,000 of the 50,000 but didn't even bother to chase him down.
-- This was a very well written episode even though it was odd that Big Daddy had never been mentioned in the past 5 seasons.
-- I don't rely on my "Unofficial Companion" book much but it said Cletus's last episode was two episodes earlier. Either it was wrong or the episodes weren't aired in order they were filmed....which is what I suspect since he was in this one. Seeing him was a nice surprise.
