Hobie Hartkins reacted to HossC for a topic
We've mentioned a couple of historically famous non-NASCAR drivers recently, so I thought I'd share a quote from another that I heard last night. Juan Manuel Fangio dominated the early years of F1, winning the World Drivers' Championship five times in the first decade. Here's his quote: "Driving fast on the track does not scare me. What scares me is when I drive on the highway I get passed by some idiot who thinks he is Fangio."1 point -

Good Neighbors, Duke....season 3 Josiah Benson and his daughter move into the old Gaylord farm in Hazzard. They are in the witness protection program after he testified against a mob Boss. To protect his identity Josiah is now known as Adam Venable and his daughter, Ester. Boss had been planning on buying that farm to build Hogg Heights Condominiums and was mad the Venable's got it. Two bad guys had been spying on the Venables after suspecting Adam was really Josiah and they put a bug in their living room and found out they were right. 2 million dollars in uncut diamonds of ransom was lost by the mob boss and the bad guys thought Josiah (Adam) had them but he didn't. The Duke boys found out about Josiah's past after checking old newspapers. When the Venables decided to leave town they left a briefcase of family pictures and heirlooms with the Dukes for safekeeping but when Daisy had it the bad guys went after her, thinking the diamonds were in it. Thanks to the boys Daisy got away. While this was going on Boss and Rosco were searching for uranium that the bad guys tricked them into thinking was in Hazzard. Eventually the Venables, with the help on the Dukes faked their death in a car explosion off a cliff so the bad guys would stop bothering them and Rosco and Boss struck much needed water on the Venable farm in their uranium search. --Hoyt Axton sings his cop in a little bitty town song in the end. --The episode starts out with Bo and Luke singing the song from Hee Haw...'where oh where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched....." --When Boss explained a geiger counter to Rosco he asked Boss "How many geigers we gonna have to count?" Boss said to Rosco, after mentioning uranium "if your cranium had a brainium" -- Condominiums? In another episode they were Hoggominiums as I recall.1 point -

The Great Santa Claus Chase....season 3 Bo and Luke are hauling Christmas trees into Hazzard with a big orange truck (of course it's orange) when they get hijacked and tied up along the road. A bad guy dressed as a preacher helps them but later sets them up to make it look like they stole the trees and pocketed the $500 from selling them...... but Boss was behind the scheme and had 2 other bad guys paint the truck. The preacher sees Boss's safe and conspires with the other 2 guys to steal from it. The townsfolk slowly start to suspect that Bo and Luke might be guilty. Boss starts selling the trees in the freshly painted truck but the boys, after getting bailed out, see a ribbon Luke tied on one of them and realize they are the same trees and truck. The Dukes almost get Boss to change his mind when they run a Dicken's Christmas Carol shuck and jive on the CB when Boss is half asleep for his 4:30 nap but Cooter breaks in and ruins the plan. Bo, Luke and Cooter dress up like Santa Clauses and steal the truck back and start delivering the trees while the 3 bad guys dress up like Santas too and lock up Jesse and Daisy and steal the money from Boss's safe. They all meet up in a near 7 vehicle and 6 Santa collision at Indian Road and Bear Hollow Junction where everything gets sorted out and the 3 bad guys get arrested. In the final scene, the 4 Dukes, Rosco, Cooter, Cletus and Flash are celebrating Christmas Eve at the Duke farm when Boss comes to visit, carrying an armload of presents after being reformed by reading Little Jimmie Dickson's Christmas Carol. After hearing bells Jesse asked the boys if they put them on Maudeen. Of course we know who it really was. --The final scene is the one I love the most in the whole series. What I wouldn't give to have been there. I love Christmas. --Sitting alone in the Boar's Nest Boss after reading A Christmas Carol Waylon said "And with Lulu away, 'ol Boss was as lonely as 'ol Waylon at the Country Music Association Awards"...LOL...It was no secret that the CMA thought Waylon was too much of an outlaw at the time to get awards. Times sure have changed. He's an icon now.1 point -

Thank you Roger. It's great seeing you too. Sorry I haven't been on lately. You had me on Fantasy baseball for a bit. Someone sent me a picture a while back saying it's been a great season so far. The Cubs have yet to lose a game and the Cardinals have yet to win a game! Gotta think positive, right?1 point -

It was a bit creepy when Boss met Sue Ann and starting touching and flirting...good thing Lulu stopped it. I never thought of that! I guess because Boss just doesn't seem threatening! LOL !!1 point -

I still wear my Confederate hats from time to time ( I've been wearing my MAGA hat for the last couple three years now though) and I have Confederate T shirts etc. It's not my fault people are ignorant. I'd welcome a chance to...educate somebody if they had a problem! .1 point -

since slavery and all that was fought for by the people carrying the same flag. THINK....poor white people fought and DIED for the Confederacy....WHY??? To help the rich white people that had slaves keep them???? Again...THINK.....The south is/was mainly agrarian ( farmers, farmland, etc.) When the poor white people raised crops and livestock, they kept some to survive and then took the rest to market, to sell, to get other things. The white ,rich fat cats, with their slaves, could work more land, produce more crops and livestock CHEAPER than the poor white farmers and thus, could sell more, and make more money and do it all at less cost! It was the 19th century version of Walmart vs. the mom and pop shops. And poor white people fought to keep this going on??? There were anti-slavery societies ( clubs dedicated to ending slavery) in America at this time. MOST of them were in the South!! I think the reason is obvious! The South, because the Yankees were screwing them out of their fair share ( 85% of the Feds income came from southern states!) finally decided enough was enough and were going to secede...A CONSTITUTIONALLY LEGAL RIGHT!! THE SOUTH WAS RIGHT AND THE NORTH WAS WRONG!!! The North won, however...so who writes the history? The winner! Who gets to lie about what REALLY happened??? See? When you're in the wrong, you make up excuses and try to cover your A! ( CYA!)1 point -

I don't care what anyone thinks...I KNOW what the flag means and I KNOW what the war was really about ( over taxing the South and not giving them their share....everything goes back to money.... )1 point
