I met Ben Jones ( and the other DOH Stars) at the “Hazard County Fair “ in Macon Ga when I was 16 years old . The Macon Telegraph had and article about the event and many people had negative comments . I thought the event was great and enjoyed my time meeting several of the cast members. I wrote a review about the Event and how much I enjoyed it and apparently it found its way to Ben . He actually called me ( after he came to my small hometown of Henderson Ga and I was out of town) . He stopped at the only store in our Un-Incorporated town and spoke with several of the farmers ( one of whom gave him my phone # ) and community members who often stopped in the store to talk about the day and buy a soda or snack. He left me several items including an autographed photo that I still have 44 years later . He impressed me so much as a teenager because he took time out of his busy life to find a 16 YO country girl in a small unknown town to just say thank you ! RIP Ben “Cooter”! Susan Thames Newton

I just wanted to send my condolences and my prayers to Alma. I grew up watching the dukes of hazzard. I always thought cooter was funny and loveable. And a duke at heart Im so sorry alma for losing ben cooter Davenport. I hope alma keeps the dukes store up and running in memory of Ben cooter Davenport Jones. Thank you so much to the Jones family for sharing Ben through the years and for his dedication to making this world a better place for all of us. I took my 82 year old father to Cooter’s Place, Pigeon Forge, this past fall and it gave us both such wonderful memories. My prayers are with Ben’s family as they mourn his loss. We KNOW that he’s seen the face of Jesus and is entertaining angels at this very moment. ❤️

I never had the pleasure of meeting Ben. I did get to watch him as Crazy C or Cooter. Loved The Dukes Of Hazzard show very much. Still have my boxed collection and watch them daily. I pray that Alma and his kids have strength and comfort above from the Lord. He will be missed but never forgotten. Sending prayers to all and especially his many friends and fans.

This is a good question. After I turned 65 in April of last year (I'm 7 days younger than Bo) I started thinking about it more. I have been so blessed in life except for the one great tragedy of losing my only child in a car accident. There is really nothing more I feel like I need to accomplish in life except for one thing and I have been working on that lately. I know we aren't supposed to talk about religion but considering the circumstances ( and considering the folks of Hazzard were religious) maybe the moderators will let it slide this time. I love astronomy and I always got tired of people claiming that you have to believe in science or religion. You can't believe in both because they both can't be right. To counter that I have been working on three projects. One of them is a novel. It is classified as Christian science fiction and I've been working on it on and off for 10 years. The other is a children's book that targets teenagers like my grandson who declared last year that he is an atheist because science can answer everything and the things it can't answer now it will eventually find answers to. The third is a power point presentation that proves that God and science are indeed compatible, not combative. I am going to present it to a church group and see where it goes from there. If it ever gets on You Tube I could let you folks know. I sure hope we get more responses to your question Tom.

I take deaths of the DOH stars very hard. I only met him once. That was on Oct 23, 1982. As I recall, that day was his first wife's 30th birthday. It was at a car show in Erie Pa. This is going to be a tough few days for me.....and millions of other fans. My condolences to all his fans here.

When you got to meet him, you felt like you were visiting an old friend again. He just made you feel that way. He'll be missed.

I recently mentioned in the General Lee Pedal Car thread that I'd looked up the current asking prices for some rare Dukes diecast models, but I'd forgotten about this one. Believe it or not, there's one on eBay at the moment for just $10,000 (or best offer). That's not a bad return on an invest over 16 years, but of course it all depends on finding someone prepared to pay that much.

This sad news broke just after I'd gone to sleep last night, so I woke up to all these posts this morning. My condolences and best wishes to the family. I never got to meet Ben, but I got to know him a little through his autobiography. He had quite a life.

Mrs Alma your husband was the most amazing individual. I watched him as well as my son idolized him on the Dukes of Hazzard. I met your husband way back early on through my neighbor Mabel Jones Powell. I have one of his autographed pictures he sent me by mail. Autographed in blue sharpie still hanging in my garage. My prayers are with you and yours and I would love to meet you one day to say thanks.

Hi there everyone, with the loss of Ben Jones (Cooter) in these past few hours.. it’s set me to thinking. What about our dreams? Cooter followed his, not only achieving a solid career in US congress. But also opening up the Cooter’s Place museums, HazzardRun car shows, etc. So that leads me to my question, what’s your dream in life? We’re all given a short amount of time on this earth. Still can’t believe it Meadowmufn, doesn’t seem right you know? It’s 2:22am, as of the time of writing this. The bar here in town is closed, but when I’m able I’ll be stopping by my local Boars Nest in memory of Cooter. World is a lot sadder place to live in at the moment...

Just heard the sad news, a few hours ago. From my oldest brother, who him, and my other 2 brothers, gave me my nickname years ago. Cooter! Cuz i tinkered with anything car related. From probably 4 years old . From hotwheels to hubcaps and old vehicles. Im 42 now. Nickname means more to me now. As Cooter/Ben Jones, always went out of his way, to help those in need.I live by that rule also.We were raised that way. The RIGHT,and HONEST way. Respect for your elders, treat others the way , you would want to be treated….and be a decent human being……. We did lose a legend. But as the ol sayin goes…legends never die! Say hi to uncle Jesse and the others for me that we lost. Enjoy a peaceful rest Ben Jones. “I might be crazy, but i aint dumb….,Crazy Cooter comin atcha!” Its not goodbye, its so long. We’ll meet again on the other side.

Ben Jones passed away today August 9, 2026. It’s a sad day for Dukes Of Hazzard fans and Ben’s family. My prayers are with Ben and his family.
