  1. Apologies for the lateness of my F1 review - I've had a busy week! Here's what happened at last weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Italy.

The McLarens looked to have the pace all through the three free practice sessions, but could only manage first and fourth on the grid (Oscar Piastri ahead of Lando Norris). They were split by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the Mercedes of George Russell. Neither Ferrari made it into the top 10, which disappointed their fans so close to their factory. The other Mercedes driver, 18-year-old rookie Kimi Antonelli, grew up near the track and had invited many friends and family to the race, but could only qualify 13th.

Oscar made a good start, but Max got around him almost immediately. Lando had to wait until lap 11 to pass George and set off after his team mate. Oscar pitted early, and then Lando pitted just before Esteban Ocon's car pulled off to retire from the race, bringing out a virtual safety car. That gave Max and many others an easy pit stop and shook up the order. Lewis Hamilton, who'd been stuck behind Kimi since the start, finally managed to pass him on lap 34, and continued to make progress through the field. Sadly for his local fans, Kimi had to retire on lap 46. That brought out a full safety car which allowed for more easy pit stops for some. Max held the lead at the restart and went on to win the race. Behind him, Lando and Lewis each overtook their team mates on track. Charles Leclerc briefly passed Alex Albon, but his team told him to give the place back to avoid a penalty as he pushed Alex off the road to make the move. At the flag, the top 10 were:

    1 Max Verstappen
    2 Lando Norris
    3 Oscar Piastri
    4 Lewis Hamilton
    5 Alexander Albon
    6 Charles Leclerc
    7 George Russell
    8 Carlos Sainz Jnr
    9 Isack Hadjar
    10 Yuki Tsunoda

Lewis said it was the first time he felt at home in the Ferrari after joining the team at the start of the season.

You can see the race highlights here.

This weekend we're off to the historic Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo.

a 1966 Mustang was my death chariot! When a friend of mine , who owned a purple  1966 Mustang with ivory white interior, was driving like a fool and I was a passenger. We had a wreck and I was thrown out of the car and landed on my head. I was in the hospital for a month and in a coma for a week.  I came as close as you can get to dying without going all the way!

Sorry to hear that, Hobie. That sounds like a cool color combination too.

  4. I went to a truck show today. Unfortunately, there were no American trucks there, and I know there are a few in the country. Some people are huge fans of the European trucks, and there's a lot of merchandise available for them, but they don't interest me much. Although the European trucks don't do much for me, some had some incredible airbrush artwork on them. The only exception I spotted was a Ford pickup monster truck which was giving rides in the eight seats in the back. By the time I'd looked around and got something to eat, the rides seem to have stopped, so I never got a chance to have a go.

Also within the show I spotted a 1966 Mustang. After I left the show I spotted another 1966 Mustang parked just down the road. Mustangs are a rare sight over here, so to see two so close together was a nice treat.

  5. I assume you mean Barney Benson - Barney Miller was a 1970s/80s sitcom starring Hal Linden.

Each episode that you named includes a late-70s brown Ford Econoline van, but there are differences. The one in 'Big Brothers, Duke' appears to be a lighter brown and has tan or gold stripes along the sides. Although '10 Million Dollar Sheriff' and 'Trouble at Cooter's' are consecutive episodes, I spotted difference there too. The van in '10 Million Dollar Sheriff' has a roof rack, bars on the rear windows, silver trim over the wheels and along the sides, and the interior of the rear is painted in a dark color. Note: When Rosco pulls it over and it crashes off-road, the van changes to one with round headlights when they are rectangular for the rest of the episode. It would be possible to remove the additions and repaint the interior to change the appearance for 'Trouble at Cooter's', but my guess is that they were all just similar vans.

  6. I assume that would be sweetened rather than UNSWEETENED tea?

The only time I recall tea being mentioned was in 'The Fortune Tellers' when Rosco says, "Tea leaves. I'll read their tea leaves." under his breath after sending the fortune tellers on their way.

  7. In the commentary to 'And in This Corner, Luke Duke', they talk about how the cars they used had automatic transmissions when they were supposed to be stick. The gear shifting sounds were probably dubbed from a stick. They also say that they drove everything from 318s to 440s. Cathy asks asks if some of the 440s had a Hemi shifter. Tom tries to correct her by saying "Hertz shifter", but I think he meant Hurst shifter. Either way, John says on the commentary that they all had slap shifters.

Did anyone 'sides me notice that in Season 4 Dukes in Danger, the shirt escaped convict Leeman stole to wear was Bo's Blue shirt from Season 1 High Octane, and the shirt Hammer stole to wear was Bo's Red Checkered Plaid Flannel from the flashbacks in Season 7 Happy Birthday General Lee.

Please stop assuming that similarities make things the same and posting them as if they are facts. A couple of days ago you claimed to have seen the Sanford and Son pickup in Hazzard Square when it was just a similar model. While the shirt that Leeman steals is a similar plain blue shirt to the one that Bo wears when they go "juking" in 'High Octane', it's also similar to a lot of other blue shirts in the show including the one worn by Luke in 'Happy Birthday, General Lee'. The shirt that Hammer steals is red plaid, but the pattern is different to the one worn by Bo in 'Happy Birthday, General Lee', and his has long sleeves while Bo's has short sleeves.

Please also consider whether these observations require a new thread. You've already started a thread of Easter Eggs, and there are are probably other places this could've gone. Spreading information across multiple threads makes things harder to find and less fun for people to access.

Did y'all know that before Tom and John walked out, the episode Coy Meets Girl was originally supposed to be titled A Bo for Bobby. Because of that girl Michelle Greene (Bobby Lee Jordan).

Yes - you posted the same thing six months ago in this thread (literally three posts ago on this page!), and also in 2020 in Uncle Jesse's Reviews. Luckily, Julieduke and Jessi Duke had already posted about this in 2007.

  10. The trio correctly identified the square as the filming location of 'The Music Man' and 'The Gilmore Girls' (both already mentioned in this thread), and then Cathy says "and then didn't they film, um, Opie, uh, what's that, not Happy Days, um ...". She never finished the sentence and never mentioned Andy Griffiths, but it's fair to assume that that's what she was referring to as Ron Howard's character was Opie Taylor (and he was in 'Happy Days').

Exteriors for "The Andy Griffith Show" were mainly filmed at the RKO 40 Acres/Desilu backlot in Culver City, about 45 minutes south of the Warner Bros' backlot. I can't find any evidence of Andy Griffith filming in Burbank.

The video below shows what's now standing where the backlots were, and mentions several other shows and movies that were filmed there. It also shows the former Desilu Studios in Hollywood. There's a brief Dukes tie-in at around 12:32 when they show a still of James Best from the 1959 movie 'Verboten!'.

  11. It's a similar model early '50s Ford F-1 truck, but I very much doubt that it anything to do with Sanford and Son. I can't see any connection between Sanford and Son and Warner Brothers. The truck is also in very good condition and has a red grille, whereas the Sanford and Son truck was tatty with a silver grille. While it could've be restored, I've read that the Sandford and Son truck was bought by a real-life junk yard owner.

Fun Fact: Season 6 How to Succeed in Hazzard was originally to be a Hughie Hogg episode. But Jeff Altman was not available for it. So they brought in Robert Morse (Dewey Hogg) who in the storyline was Hughie's brother. Trivia: The episode's title How to Succeed in Hazzard is a play on words of Morse's successful stage play How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Robert Morse also made a movie version of 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' in 1967. I mentioned how the title of his Dukes episode parodied the title of the movie when I posted a screengrab of Robert from his 1965 movie 'The Loved One' - you can see it here.

The race is over, but it's 11pm here, so I'm off to bed. I'll write my report tomorrow when the highlights video is available.

In yesterday's race, Lando Norris got a good start from second and challenged for the lead off the line, but had to go wide at the second corner a dropped back to sixth. Kimi Antonelli got up to second and also briefly challenged Max Verstappen for the lead. He held the place for a few laps before being passed by Oscar Piastri. Oscar then went on to take the lead at the start of lap 14. It took Lando a few more laps, but he also passed Max to take second. There were a couple of virtual safety cars for blown engines, and one of them let George Russell pit and get out ahead of Max. Behind them, Lewis Hamilton gave some very sarcastic team radio messages when his Ferrari team were slow to respond to his request to swap track position with his team mate Charles Leclerc. First he asked if they'd finished their tea break, then when he had to let Charles back in front he was given the gap to the car behind and he asked if they wanted him to let them past as well.

By the end, the two McLarens had a lead of over 30 seconds ahead of George and Max in third and fourth. Williams seem to be having a resurgence (they were always one of the top teams when I started watching F1, but haven't done so well in recent years) with Alex Albon in fifth and Carlos Sainz Jr in ninth after challenging Lewis on the final lap. Oscar's third win in a row is the first time a McLaren driver has achieved that for over 25 years. You can see the race highlights here.

Oscar now leads Lando by 16 points with Max another 16 back. In the Constructors' Championship, McLaren have a huge lead because Red Bull still can't get a team mate for Max who can score good points.

There's now a week's break before a triple-header in Europe starting at Imola.

News just breaking: The Alpine team look like they're replacing Australian rookie driver Jack Doohan with Argentinian Franco Colapinto after just six races. Jack has had mixed form so far this year with a couple of heavy crashes. Franco drove nine races for Williams last year, but also had mixed results.
