I also hope mankind can build a safe sub that can stand the enormous pressure down there.

James Cameron's company does have submarines and submersibles (there's a difference) that can safely take the pressure and even go the bottom of the Mariana Trench which is nearly three times deeper than the Titanic. According to this article, he's visited the wreck 33 times. The problem with OceanGate is that their vessel was insufficiently tested and uncertified, and many experts had expressed doubts about its construction.

I have a thought. Why don't they offer virtual reality tours of the Titanic wreck site? Give people special 3D glasses to get the feeling of actually being down there. Program a robot vehicle with under water cameras to go down there, to take pictures and videos and have it set up to send it back up here for people on the ship to see? Safer that way. Send unmanned subs. Now days there's technology to do a virtual reality type tour.

You can already take a virtual tour of the Titanic without leaving your front room (see video below), but now that it's possible to visit in person, some rich people are always going to want to say they've actually been there. The second video shows a very detailed 1:350 model of the wreckage with an explanation of which parts survive and which bits don't.

I THINK  I've noticed something>>>>>( I'll have to get my favorite Irishman to check for me ! ) :)   The car Cooter used when he was racing and hurt his foot, is the same car that was in Ms. Tri-counties.....????

1 hour ago, Skipper Duke said:

Yes it is. The same Chevelle.

As Skipper says, it's the same car (as far as I remember, these grabs are both from 'Duke vs Duke'):

In my 'Other Vehicles of Hazzard' fanart thread, I showed how they used at least two different cars each time. I also suggested that they may have repainted the Chevelle(s) as Petey Willis' racecar in 'Welcome Back, Bo 'n' Luke'.

    From bbc.com/news:

    What happens in an implosion?

When a submarine hull collapses, it moves inward at about 1,500mph (2,414km/h) - that's 2,200ft (671m) per second, says Dave Corley, a former US nuclear submarine officer.

The time required for complete collapse is about one millisecond, or one thousandth of a second.

A human brain responds instinctually to a stimulus at about 25 milliseconds, Mr Corley says. Human rational response - from sensing to acting - is believed to be at best 150 milliseconds.

The air inside a sub has a fairly high concentration of hydrocarbon vapours.

When the hull collapses, the air auto-ignites and an explosion follows the initial rapid implosion, Mr Corley says.

Human bodies incinerate and are turned to ash and dust instantly.

The sub imploded!  I STILL don't know how or why!

They were trying to dive 3,810m (12,500ft) beneath the ocean in a submersible that the owners didn't bother get certified (many say it would've failed) because there was a queue of people willing to spend $250,000 each to do so. Carbon fiber and titanium are strong materials, but the pressure at that depth is enormous. It's estimated that the sub imploded at a depth of 3,500 metres (11,483ft) - that's still over two miles straight down!

Just checked out the scene on Luke's Love Story where Cooter drives the motorcycle into the Boar's Nest. I must not have put it on the list that I put together awhile back because I thought it was a street bike. The only thing about it that makes it look like a dirt bike is the high front fender. I suspect it is a dual sport. That's a motorcycle that can also be called a "street legal dirt bike". We called them street-trails back then but some people called them enduros. Maybe the Hoss Detective Agency can help to identify the motorcycle and possibly even post a picture.

I don't know bikes, and it's not listed on IMCDb, but here are the best pictures I could get of Cooter's bike from 'Luke's Love Story'.

( I bet Hoss has some Farthings being he lives in Europe! :) )

A farthing was worth 1/4d, i.e a quarter of an old penny when there were 240 pennies to the pound. The British Farthing ceased to be legal tender on December 31, 1960. Even the Irish Farthing was phased out before I was born, so I don't have either. I do remember the post-decimal 1/2p or ha'penny which was in circulation until the end of 1984, but I don't think I have any.

We know approximately how old Bo and Luke are....supposed to be,  mid 20's, I mean come on! They're out of high school, not old enough to be grandparents but still old enough work, be on their own etc. and still young enough to jump across cars, fight in bars  etc., so The Korean war was in the '50's...they'd  need to be late teens early 20's to be in the Korean  war, so they'd be born in the 30's to be in Korea. They would've been in their 40's  during TDOH times and so the only other war Luke COULD have been in was Vietnam!

    3 hours ago, RogerDuke said:

(you are right Hobie. It had to have been Vietnam. It officially ended in 1975 but America had been out of it before that)

Vietnam is the logical conclusion, but I was asking whether it was explicitly mentioned in any episode. I don't remember the word "Vietnam" appearing in the show.

Mr. Turwilliger!  ( not sure how to spell it!) ....one of the citizens that never developed in the series. ( I think Roger started a list of them a while back)

It's Mr. Terwilliger. There was also a Betty Sue Terwilliger in 'Return of the Ridge Raiders'.

    Luke is a VIETNAM VETERAN

Does it ever explicitly say that in the show? In 'The Great Hazzard Hijack', they say that Phil Ackley is "the one that saved Luke's life during the war", but I don't think Vietnam is ever mentioned.

I can't find any other mentions of Salt Walther on HNet. According to Wikipedia, he also raced unlimited hydroplane boats. It looks like his 1979 appearances in 'The Dukes of Hazzard' and 'The Rockford Files' were his only acting credits.

    TruckDriver0205.jpg

Following the crash, Walther apparently became addicted to pain killers, and despite a few comeback attempts, his later life included a few drug convictions and jail time. His death at the age of 65 was the result of a drug overdose.

Here's a video about the crash.

Anybody else catch the mistake/blooper during the chase in The Great Santa Claus Chase of Boss Hogg's Cadillac missing its bull horns hood ornament?

The bull horns get knocked off by the step ladder when Cletus crashes into Boss' Cadillac as the Dukes re-steal the Christmas trees. It may have been accidental, but the episode is consistent after that. I'm sure Cooter can re-attach them for $35.42!

Hmm, do you think there were only 3 episodes where Emma rode a dirt bike? Seems like there should be more but I wouldn't be surprised if there's not.  Thank you so much Hoss. You are the most helpful person on the internet. I just got done watching "Along Came a Duke". I love the dirt bike episodes.

I think Miz Tisdale only appeared in 12 episodes, so she may have only ridden a dirt bike in three.

A few months ago I made a list of the bikes and trikes that appeared on the show over in the Happy Birthday Miz Tisdale thread. I don't know if you saw it.

This might be too tough for Hoss but I'll ask anyways. Miz Tisdale's dirt bike first appeared in Double Dukes of season 4 (I think). In what other episodes did she ride it? Can anybody remember what ep Jesse rode in a sidecar with her?

'Double Dukes' was the second episode of season 4, but Miz Tisdale rides off on a dirt bike in 'The Hack of Hazzard' near the end of season 3. Jesse rides in her sidecar in 'Miz Tisdale on the Lam'.

  13. I saw this on the news yesterday, and of course it reminded me of Dukes, especially as it took place in Georgia. The car hit the tow truck ramp at full speed and flew 120 feet (36.5 m). The 21-year-old female driver from Tallahassee survived, but is in hospital. It shows how you must always pay attention when driving.
