I forgot to mention that I went to a local vintage car show yesterday. It was mainly all European models, with a couple of Japanese ones. I think the only US car was a bright red C3 Corvette. There were also about 20 tractors and two old fire engines shooting water back into the river. We had heavy rain on Saturday night, so it was a pleasant surprise that the sun came out for the show. The only downside was that half of these "vintage" cars were around when I was younger - it can make a person feel old!

  2. It's amazing what's possible with 3D printing these days - the Vector wheels look great. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Most of the model builds get posted in the Hobbies forum. Maybe you should start a thread there and either duplicate these early stages or link back here. If you do create a new thread, make sure you post a link to it here so people can follow your progress.

  4. Hi all. These first couple posts are repeats from my "new Member" thread, but this is where I'll keep posting my updates. I found this forum recently when so many of my google image searches kept bringing me here, usually to one of Hoss's great posts. All of the image searches are because I'm in the planning and early building stages of creating a Dukes rc car chase for my Youtube channel (it's an RC car channel). I just picked up a Kyosho Phazer with a 70 Charger body, so I have a little work to do to convert it to a 69 General. One way that I'm trying to separate my video(s) from those that are already out there is that I really want to make the rest of my props as correct as possible, within reason. This starts with an accurate Sherrif's car. There's virtually nothing out there in 1:10 scale for RC police cars at all, and certainly nothing that's period correct. I started looking for 3d printable options, and although nobody has the 77 Monaco/Fury models that we're most familiar with, I did manage to find a 74 Monaco, which is one of the models used in season one. This print is taking multiple days to print, and will take me even longer to sand, paint, and detail, but it should make for an awesome chase car! In addition to the cars, I want to make a cardboard building or two, and of course, I need to come up with a ramp and something to jump over. Going through this great site is really helping me to come up with some ideas, and hopefully soon I'll have a basic story board put together so I can start figuring out what props I'll need. The cool thing about the props is that they're items that my kids can help me make, so it gets them involved in my hobby. Anyway, if folks are interested, I'll post updates on my progress.

  8. HossC, Thanks for the detective work! I'll have to decide just how true I want to stay to the Season 1 design, or if I'm better off going with the more familiar look from the later episodes. I suspect that I'll want to stay more in line with the later look just because it's more familiar to most people, but having those screen shots really helps me make sure that my sizing and positioning is spot on. Based on those screen grabs, it looks like my badge on the door should move back a bit, as well as move up. I think I also need to make the badge a little bit bigger too.

RIP. A few years ago the Today show or ET had a reunion of the Magnum PI cast and Roger was still pretty ripped for his age and besides Tom Selleck looked the best.

But in Hazzard County, if it has wheels, people have a tendency to want to race it! All right, back to four wheels. Sorry for the interruption.

  30. Today I started working on the Charger. I painted the silver on to the Vector wheels that I printed, and I pulled the 70 grill off the body. Once I print a 69 grill and cut the body back to accept it, I think it's going to start to look really good. The patrol car is still printing, but the front half is off the printer and I'm really happy with how it's looking.

This week's French Grand Prix saw Ferrari's Charles Leclerc start on pole again, with the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez behind. Charles' team mate, Carlos Sainz, had to start in 19th after penalties for changing engine parts. Lewis Hamilton got a good start from fourth and got past Sergio. For the first third of the race it looked like Charles had the better of Max, with Max having to pit from second. Then, just a couple of laps later, Charles lost the rear end of his car and ended up in the barrier. Carlos made good progress through the field, but had to pit for tires with 10 laps to go. He also picked up a 5-second penalty earlier for an unsafe pit release. In the end it was a relatively easy win for Max, who now has a 63 point lead in the championship. Lewis improved on his last three third place results by finishing in second, and his team mate, George Russell, jumped Sergio after a late virtual safety car to join Lewis on the podium. You can see the race highlights here. Next week it's the Hungarian Grand Prix.

They look good, but I can't imagine they're very practical. They remind me of the picture I saw of a person who'd crocheted a face mask for Covid protection!

Following on from Stingray: Puppets Stingray was a British children's science fiction television series from the 1960s which was filmed using puppets or marionettes. You can watch the intro here. The Opel GT is a great looking car with headlights that flip over. They did one a few years ago on 'Wheeler Dealers' - there's a clip here for anyone unfamiliar with this car. Opel was a European subsidiary of General Motors for many years. They sold cars in the US through Buick dealers under the Opel name from 1958-1975. Since then, many other Opels have been sold in the US, rebadged as models such as the Saturn Astra, 5th & 6th generation Buick Regals and the Cadillac Catera. There's more info on Wikipedia. It seems that General Motors sold Opel (and UK sister company, Vauxhall) to the French PSA Group in 2017. In 2021, the PSA Group merged with Italian-American group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) under the name Stellantis. Opels are still sold in Ireland and the rest of Europe, although they are rebadged as Vauxhalls in the UK.
