RIP Rick Hurst
Justin and 4 others reacted to Meadowmufn for a topic
When I first met Rick, it was in the 90's, so the WWW was in its infancy. When I told him about HazzardNet's predecessor (the Hazzard County Sheriff's Department on Prodigy), he was excited there was a community of fans online still discussing and enjoying the show. He told me he'd be right back and when he returned, he handed me an enormous folder of 8x10s, several of them signed. That was very generous of him. I still have them packed away from the move, but when I find them (someday), I will scan them in and put them on the site. When I mentioned where I worked at the time, we had a connection there and he told me some amazing stories. We just had an awesome conversation. He was very personable and gracious. At the Dukesfest in '01, I got to do an impromptu square dance with him and Jimmie. Good times. I would've liked to have gotten to know him better, but my health and work situations over the years didn't permit me to get to events as much as I'd have liked.5 points -

Well done, Skipper. I also remembered the scene but not the episode. Watching the scene again, I remembered that it slightly annoyed me. My parents were married 67 years, just a few months shy of 68 years when dad passed. They got married at 19 (mom) and 21 (dad). I've been married almost 23 years. My oldest sister celebrates anniversary #32 this year and my other sister will celebrate #26 later this year. So, my advice would be to find someone who's been married a long time and get advice from them! Because whatever my mom and dad were doing right, it seemed to rub off on us kids. My mom always told me that the key to a long marriage was.... 2 tv sets. And for the record, all of us kids have more than 1 tv set.4 points -
Bo Dukes bow, martin warthog
Hobie Hartkins and 2 others reacted to floyd012010 for a topic
I purchased a martin warthog bow a year or so ago. I have been told its in very good condition but was missing some stuff. I picked up the 8 arrow quiver but I had to purchase another old bow to get it but it is the correct one at least. A friend of mine brought me s martin deerslayer sight and I put a new arrow rest on it too. Was wondering if anyone knows exactly what sight was used on the one in the show? I got the 3 pin deerslayer sight on it now and it looks good but I don't think that was the one. Definitely a cool old school wood bow. Just trying to get as close as I can to the one on the show.3 points -
To be honest, I'm not much of a drinker, and if I have a pint it's likely to be lager or maybe ale. I don't dislike Guinness, and it does taste different here, but I can't remember the last time I had one. My friend likes the 0.0 alcohol-free Guinness which I might try sometime since I usually have my car with me.3 points

I think I'd have to agree. Maybe you'll like the vocals more in this one. It was on the soundtrack of the 1991 Steve Martin movie 'LA Story', hence the clips in the video. Enya - Exile3 points

Some random advice: 1. Take lessons from a local instructor. Learning guitar is hard. Having an instructor vastly improves your chances of success. 2. When you're learning chords, just hold the chord while you're watching tv. Strum it a little bit during commercials. At first when you pull your hand away, you have to carefully reposition your fingers. After a while you'll notice that your hand will snap back to that spot. Once it does that, you'll start to be able to just grab that chord without positioning your fingers. 3. Once you can grab the chord reliably, start working on a 2nd chord. Once you can grab 2 reliably, start switching between them 4. When you're actually practicing instead of just holding chords while watching Dukes reruns, focus on having good timing. That's a critically important skill. Go as slow as you need to. Whether you use a metronome, a youtube drum track or play along with the song, timing is everything. Even if you can only strum the chord once per beat, your timing is always your priority. 4a. Learn to tap your foot to the beat. Do it to every song on the radio when you're not practicing. Make it become 2nd nature, because you'll need it to keep good time, especially when you start getting to songs with stuff that's off the beat. 5. A bunch of old Waylon and Hag songs are only 2 chords. 6. This probably should have gone near the top, but take your guitar to a competent tech or luthier for a setup. Make sure he knows that you're a beginner and he should be able to set up the guitar with lighter strings and lower action. This will make it easier to play. Like I said above... learning is hard, and frankly, it's a lot harder when you start on acoustic. It's bigger, it's farther from your body, it's harder to see what you're doing, the strings are thicker and they're farther from the frets. Hope this helps.3 points

I obviously hear so many US voices that I don't really notice the difference in pronunciation with the name George. I saw some short videos yesterday of young Americans returning to the US after brief visits to Europe, and the most important thing they could find to say was that in "The Land of the Free" they could remove the caps from their soda bottles. For the last couple of years our plastic soda and water bottles have had caps which remain tethered to the bottles so the whole lot can get recycled. In Ireland we also pay a deposit on each bottle (15c or 25c depending on size) which we get back when they are returned to a store for recycling. The caps can still be separated easily if it's really too much to deal with, but you get used to them pretty quickly. I find it particularly odd that this should be such an issue for young Americans since when I visited the US in the early 80s you guys had soda cans with ring pulls which stayed attached while on our cans they were still separate and were often just thrown away! This video is now two years old, but the comparison of food prices and availability is still valid. The lady in the video spends six months of the year in the UK and six months in Texas, and the comparison is between Tesco in the UK and Kroger in the US.3 points

Charlie Daniels
Hobie Hartkins and 2 others reacted to HossC for a topic
I was just watching a season 3 episode of The Fall Guy called 'Pirates of Nashville'. The main storyline was about bootlegged Country records, so Colt and gang had to fly to Nashville and visit The Grand Ole Opry. The first singer they met was Dottie West - one of Boss' Celebrity Speed Trap victims. A couple of others like Mickey Gilley were mentioned, but not seen. Then Charlie Daniels and his band showed up to perform 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia'. The episode also featured Miriam Byrd-Nethery who appeared in two episodes of Dukes. The episode finished with Colt losing a bet and having to sing the show's theme song which was portrayed as having been written by Howie. I'm no expert on Tennessee geography, but the street signs in the urban car chase looked suspiciously like the ones in LA, and the out-of-town chase went down roads lined with white fencing that were very like the ones often seen in Dukes (e.g. W Potrero Road in Westlake Village).3 points -
Well spotted, Webb. You seem to have a slightly wider frame than I do as my copy only extends to the lamp. Jimmie was probably meant to stop a foot or two further back when then set up the shot. There are a few other scenes in this episode that were obviously filmed in a studio. I can see a corner in the scenery in one shot, but no edges like you spotted. I noticed something else in the Boar's Nest scene. When Bo sneaks into the back of Rosco's patrol car, the driver's seat is all the way back, so there's hardly room for Bo to get his legs in. We can see the seat in this position as Rosco drives off, but we can't see Bo. When we do see Bo, he's got his whole body between the front and rear seats, so the driver's seat must be about six inches forward. I'm sure Rosco would notice that much movement - I know I would!3 points

The show that Rick left for was "Amanda's". He played the chef, Earl Nash, at Amanda's by the Sea - a hotel run by Bea Arthur's character Amanda. The show was based on the iconic British sitcom "Fawlty Towers", but was cancelled after 13 episodes. The show also starred Fred McCarren, who was Neil Bishop in "The Big Heist". "Fawlty Towers" famously (at least on this side of The Pond) only ran for two seasons of six episodes each (six episodes is the standard season length for British sitcoms), and they were four years apart due to the stars/writers getting divorced in-between. Here's the first episode of "Amanda's". I assume by the picture quality that it hasn't been released on DVD or repeated lately. Rick appears at just over eight minutes in.3 points -

I know I've posted something like this before, but this is more detailed. I have several "errors" situations etc. firstly, we know that the 1st episode aired in 1979. in it Waylon says last year (1978) the boys got caught on a run. in happy birthday general lee (aired 1984) we learn 8 years prior (1976) is when they got the general, bo was "just getting out of hs", Luke got out or marines, (not sure of how long someone could/had to stay in service back then) but they were even on probation then. (my guess is they never wanted they boys to use guns) Daisys shotgun wedding (aired 1983) : she had been working at boars nest for 4 years. was it 79 or 76? Hazzard hijack: Lukes's marine "buddy" was part of stolen money 5 years prior (1976) (they never "found" each other after Luke came home) 1979 ghost of general lee rosco says he chased the boys so many times over the years it was only three years I'm sure it was more (but I'm specifically talking of the general) bye bye boss 1981: ten years prior boss sent digger to jail (the "kids" did not know about it) play it again luke 1984: luke last saw candy 7 years prior (1977) there are several others that "meet each other" I know they were never thinking facts for timelines just rewatching it is funny with some episodes.3 points -
dukes "timeline'
Skipper Duke and 2 others reacted to HossC for a topic
Welcome to HNet, joshkeith. The ages of the characters are never revealed (except for Abraham Lincoln Hogg by his driver's licence, and therefore his twin brother, Boss), but the subject has been discussed a few times before. Here are three threads to get you started: Ages of dukes I have a question??? What were the real ages of cast? Anyone know? Aside from the flashback episodes ('Go West, Young Dukes' and 'Happy Birthday, General Lee'), and the shown-out-of-order season 2 episodes, I think Dukes ran chronologically, although not many storylines crossed episodes or seasons. An example of this is T.C. Rogers becoming Supervisory Administrator of Hazzard County in 'People's Choice' (S2E11), but then she was never mentioned again. Of course, the 2005/2007 movies completely ignored the canon of the TV series, but that's another story!3 points -

NASCAR news
Hobie Hartkins and 2 others reacted to HossC for a topic
Apologies for the lateness of my F1 review - I've had a busy week! Here's what happened at last weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Italy. The McLarens looked to have the pace all through the three free practice sessions, but could only manage first and fourth on the grid (Oscar Piastri ahead of Lando Norris). They were split by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the Mercedes of George Russell. Neither Ferrari made it into the top 10, which disappointed their fans so close to their factory. The other Mercedes driver, 18-year-old rookie Kimi Antonelli, grew up near the track and had invited many friends and family to the race, but could only qualify 13th. Oscar made a good start, but Max got around him almost immediately. Lando had to wait until lap 11 to pass George and set off after his team mate. Oscar pitted early, and then Lando pitted just before Esteban Ocon's car pulled off to retire from the race, bringing out a virtual safety car. That gave Max and many others an easy pit stop and shook up the order. Lewis Hamilton, who'd been stuck behind Kimi since the start, finally managed to pass him on lap 34, and continued to make progress through the field. Sadly for his local fans, Kimi had to retire on lap 46. That brought out a full safety car which allowed for more easy pit stops for some. Max held the lead at the restart and went on to win the race. Behind him, Lando and Lewis each overtook their team mates on track. Charles Leclerc briefly passed Alex Albon, but his team told him to give the place back to avoid a penalty as he pushed Alex off the road to make the move. At the flag, the top 10 were: 1 Max Verstappen 2 Lando Norris 3 Oscar Piastri 4 Lewis Hamilton 5 Alexander Albon 6 Charles Leclerc 7 George Russell 8 Carlos Sainz Jnr 9 Isack Hadjar 10 Yuki Tsunoda Lewis said it was the first time he felt at home in the Ferrari after joining the team at the start of the season. You can see the race highlights here. This weekend we're off to the historic Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo.3 points -
Hazzard Square
Hobie Hartkins and 2 others reacted to HossC for a topic
The trio correctly identified the square as the filming location of 'The Music Man' and 'The Gilmore Girls' (both already mentioned in this thread), and then Cathy says "and then didn't they film, um, Opie, uh, what's that, not Happy Days, um ...". She never finished the sentence and never mentioned Andy Griffiths, but it's fair to assume that that's what she was referring to as Ron Howard's character was Opie Taylor (and he was in 'Happy Days'). Exteriors for "The Andy Griffith Show" were mainly filmed at the RKO 40 Acres/Desilu backlot in Culver City, about 45 minutes south of the Warner Bros' backlot. I can't find any evidence of Andy Griffith filming in Burbank. The video below shows what's now standing where the backlots were, and mentions several other shows and movies that were filmed there. It also shows the former Desilu Studios in Hollywood. There's a brief Dukes tie-in at around 12:32 when they show a still of James Best from the 1959 movie 'Verboten!'.3 points -

There was definitely more overtaking this week at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The McLarens were quickest in practice, and Oscar Piastri put his on pole for the race. Lando Norris wasn't as comfortable in his McLaren and only qualified sixth. Max Verstappen was also unhappy with his Red Bull and started seventh. Oscar led the whole race to take his fourth F1 victory. George Russell got his Mercedes up to second at the start and managed to keep the place until the end, although at the moment he's under investigation for a technical infringement. Despite at 5-second penalty for being out of position on the grid, Lando moved up from sixth to finish third. He was followed home by the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari had an upgraded car this weekend, but Charles said it wouldn't show much improvement in this race due to the nature of the track. Max got past the Alpine of a fast Pierre Gasly on the last lap. Haas got both of their cars home in the top ten with Esteban Ocon in eighth and Oliver Bearman in tenth. Between them in ninth was Yuki Tsunoda in the second red Bull. The race highlights are here. Only a week until the next race in Saudi Arabia.3 points
