The early models especially suffered from poor build quality, and there were four recalls to fix issues. Additionally, the US spec of the 2.85l (174ci) PRV engine only produced 130hp, with the claimed 0-60 time of 8.8 seconds being more like 10.5 seconds in reality. Allowing for inflation, these cars cost around $90-110k in today's money. Hobie Hartkins 1 Quote

I read about it in car and driver or motor trend and I remember the price of the new ones was a bit much . Another company is retrofitting electric motors into old Deloreans. At a local Cars and Coffee show last October a trio of Deloreans showed up, one had over 300,000 miles. The owner daily drives it. Scrubber Hobie Hartkins 1 Quote

The original DeLoreans were manufactured in Northern Ireland, and only about 9,000 were made before the company went bankrupt. The company that now owns the name is the DeLorean Motor Company in Humble, TX. They acquired the remaining parts inventory and now supply parts and do restorations. Back in 2022, they announced a new electric car called the Alpha5, which is also designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, and shares some styling cues with the original DMC-12. It doesn't seem to have made it into production yet. A British company called Electrogenic produce an EV conversion kit for the DMC-12 which offers 150 miles of range and a 0-60 time of under 5 seconds.
