A month ago, Dave Moore, the DJ on the morning radio show that I listen to, had a dream about writing and recording a Country Christmas song. He enlisted the vocal help of Clodagh Lawlor, one of Ireland's youngest award-winning Country Music stars who also presents a Country Music show on the same station. He revealed the song yesterday morning, and it's both fun and catchy.

BTW. "Quality Street" refers to a box of candy, and a "Tayto multipack" refers to potato chips - both will be found in a lot of Irish homes at Christmas.

I'm glad y'all liked the song. I've listened to it many times now. I felt bad that I didn't know much about Clodagh Lawlor, so I had a look on YouTube. Here's a track called 'Whiskeys Cheaper Than Wine'. She even appears to be wearing Daisy Dukes in the video.

You could take me to the city
It's really not me
All I want is a real good time
So let's hitch a ride and get out of this place
To the bar with the neon lights
It's in the country, there you can see
All the girls all dance in-line
They got an old-time fiddle, and the beer is cold
And the whiskeys cheaper than wine

It seems to be mainly female artists catching my ear with new music at the moment. First and most recent, Irish rock band Florence Road.

A change of style for the track. This is British singer Raye. This song mixes several styles (R&B, soul, pop, big band and a bit of gospel) at a fast pace. She's touring the US between March and May.

Finally, a change of pace for another British singer. Olivia Dean recently won the Grammy for Best New Artist.

I posted another song by Bell X1 in the One Word Song Titles thread recently, but I heard this one today and it has too many words in the title for that thread. I known and liked it for a while, but never knew what it was about. According to the band, they used to see a man in his late-50s sleeping rough in Dublin. One day he had a female companion, and they invented this backstory for him.

Bell X1 - Rocky Took A Lover

Here's when they performed it live on Letterman in 2008.

Here's another song from Bell X1 that came up on my playlist last night. A couple of the comments on YouTube say it sounds like Talking Heads. I've never thought of it before, but I think I can hear the similarity. I've always liked the odd lyric, "I love the way your underwire bra/Always sets off that X-ray machine". There's even a John Steinbeck reference - "Oh, won't you tell us 'bout those rabbits, George?" (I did 'Of Mice and Men' at school many years ago).

Bell X1 - The Great Defector

A few modern country songs are creeping onto the playlist of the mainly pop/rock radio station I listen to here in Ireland. Maybe Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" album got people looking for more traditional country artists. Morgan Wallen's "I'm the Problem" has been popular, and I see he's also got a duet with the artist below.

The Smoky Mountains of Tennessee are mentioned in this song. Maybe if Ella had introduced her boyfriend to Cooter's Place in Pigeon Forge, he might've stayed! :)

Ella Langley - Choosin' Texas

There's also a longer version here.

We certainly can't help with the job hunt but if you need picked up emotionally just pop a Dukes episode in and after you watch it jump on the HazzardNet and tell us how good it made you feel. Sure helps me anytime I'm feeling down.

I mentioned Morgan Wallen's "I'm the problem" above. Here's a duet he did with Post Malone that's still getting regular plays on the radio over here. "I Ain't Coming Back" starts with the line "I'm a redneck, 'Cause I drink beer and I dip Skoal", and the chorus starts with a variation of "But the night I said, "I'm leavin'", I turned into Richard Petty". Both kinda remind me of HNet in a good way. :)
