We'll have to agree to disagree about Daft Punk - I like them. It looks like the anime tie-in was for their 2001 album 'Discovery'. Here's their appearance in 'Interstella 5555' (picture from Wikipedia):

You know very well that I was talking about the animation style used in their videos . I have a couple of Gorillaz albums and a few of Blur's too. I watched the first part of '5 Centimeters per Second', and while I'd concede that it's very well done, I didn't enjoy it as much as 'Howl's Moving Castle'. One reason is the amount of subtitles. There was more dialog, as well as train announcements and translations of writing that appeared on screen. By the time I'd read them, I'd missed what was happening. Maybe I'd get better with practice (or maybe I should start with English dubs before trying them in Japanese). The other reason was the realism. This may sound like a strange criticism, but some inanimate objects (eg. cars, buildings, signs etc.) looked almost photorealistic, and the city setting was also very real. What I liked about the Studio Ghibli movies is that they are pure fantasy, and the settings are very stylized versions of reality. Maybe they are just two different sub-genres of anime. None-the-less, I appreciate the recommendations .

I seem to remember you wanted to fit those horns to your bike. I think this makes more sense . Too much?

Was it 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3' - it's named on the Wikipedia page. Following on from yesterday's pictures of Tom and John in Pasadena, here's a few of them appearing together at the 1993 TV special 'A '70s Celebration: The Beat Is Back': I'd never heard of the show before, but I found a VHS transfer on YouTube. Skip to 2:25 to see Tom and John (you get nearly a minute before they're cut short ): Speaking of Tom and John appearing together, I also found a TV Guide advert for the 1987 movie 'Christmas Comes to Willow Creek'. And so Cathy doesn't feel left out, here she is with John: All pictures found on Ebay.

girls It's a section of beach, either near Santa Monica Pier or Venice Boulevard, where bodybuilders hang out. I seem to remember seeing the "Muscle Beach" sign in several '80s movies. The screengrab below is from 'Dragnet'.

Thanks for your description of the different type of anime. There isn't any on tonight, I checked early . I listened to this track, and it got me thinking that it's rare to hear songs sung in Japanese (even after they invented karaoke ). I took a look through my record collection, and found very little in Japanese. Songs by Fantastic Plastic Machine are nearly all in English, Isao Tomita plays electronic instrumentals, Ryuichi Sakamoto mainly does movie music (and I never got the collaboration album he did with Thomas Dolby, despite being a big Thomas Dolby fan ). I have a track that claims to be YMCA in Japanese, but it's actually Chinese. Funnily enough, I do have a live track by Ben Folds Five that they translated into Japanese for their Japanese tour, but it contains too much English swearing to post here. What does that leave me with? Well there's the song below which doesn't really have words (I also have the original 1959 version by The Rock*A*Teens, but this one is better). I love the expression on the drummer's face. The guy who presents the show that this clip was taken from, Jonathan Ross, is a big anime fan. Another Japanese artist that I couldn't resist posting is Takako Minekawa. You can see the original video , but I thought you might like the version below because, according to the descrption, the video is made using clips from the classic anime series "Azumanga Daioh". I know it's in English, but I love it . I was going to ask you if Gorillaz were anime, but I found an anime forum that concluded they have Japanese/anime influences, but are not anime. Still, remembering which forum we're on, you've got to love people who speed up at "BRIDGE OUT" signs!

That's more than I expected from NASCAR - well done them (do they read my posts ). I assume the allegation about Max Papis pushing Mike Skeen's girlfriend proved not to be true.

That was one the pictures I found earlier. The location was actually the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pasadena. It closed in 1988 and was knocked down and rebuilt to almost exactly the same plans so that it met earthquake codes. It re-opened in 1991, and I think the photo dates from sometime after that. Since 2007 it's been known as the Langham Huntington, Pasadena (sorry, I was reading about it recently!). Here's another three pictures I found from the same shoot (all found on Ebay, I've trimmed them from larger pictures that show the complete slide surrounds): Does John carry the action figure around to remind people who he is? I also found a better quality picture from the same shoot as the TV Guide picture that I posted here:

While I sort through the pictures of John, Tom and Cathy, here's the last of today's Ebay finds. The first claims to be a 1979 promotional poster for the first season. I'll ignore the spelling of Rosco(e) as the makers of the show seemed unsure how to spell it in the early days, but Sorrell Brooke? The style is quite similar to some of the election posters that appeared in the show. I think this one is a read-a-long book/record. The seller is asking $16 or $17 for just the sleeve (ie. no record to play). This one's all Greek to me, which is lucky, because it's a Greek sticker album! Here's an advert (probably from TV Guide) for the 1980 TV special 'John Schneider: Back Home'. Roth posted some pictures from the show earlier in the thread - you can see them here.

The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread

Thanks, K-Duke. You can see the pictures I posted of Denver as Briscoe Darling here. The top two YouTube links no longer work, but the bottom two still seem fine. -
Fair enough, thanks for the feedback. There's already a thread for pictures of John and another for pictures of Tom - I'll use those for most of the non-Dukes pictures. There are two short threads for Cathy, but they've both lost all their pictures and the links are dead, so maybe I should start a new one. I think that pictures of people who only appeared in one or two episodes might get lost elsewhere, so I may still include a few pictures like the one of Fran Ryan.

I've been raiding Ebay again, and found enough material for many, many posts! I've noticed that it's mainly been me who's posted pictures of Dukes stars in contexts that aren't directly connected with Dukes eg. pictures of Cathy from studio shoots. Are y'all happy to see them here, or should I post them in other threads eg. pics of John in the 'John Schneider / Bo Duke' section? No controversy here: they're all TV Guide adverts for Dukes that I don't think we've seen before. Just to annoy Roger, they all have different start times! The first is for 'Granny Annie'. This one puzzles me. I'm sure it's got to be for 'And in This Corner, Luke Duke', but it says "SEASON PREMIERE!". 'And in This Corner, Luke Duke' was either the fourth or fifth episode in season 3 (depending on whether you count 'Carnival of Thrills' as one or two episodes). The Dallas episode appears to be 'Nightmare', which was orginally broadcast on the same night as 'And in This Corner, Luke Duke'. No puzzles this time: it's for 'The Fortune Tellers', the last episode in season 6. I'll finish this post with an advert for the cartoon series. I don't think I've heard the words "Benji", "Zax", "Alien" and "Prince" used together since the '80s! I'm sure I used to watch it, but I have no memory of the what happened.

It looks like "third time lucky" proves to be true. After missing 'Laputa: Castle in the Sky' and 'Spirited Away', quite by chance I found that 'Howl's Moving Castle' was on last night, and I switched on just in time to catch the start. It was rather late, and they showed the original Japanese version with subtitles rather than the English dubbed version, but I still enjoyed it. I did feel that they rushed the ending, and Sofi/Sophie's age changes were initially confusing, but I think think they're the only two negatives I have (and the age changes would probably be easier to understand if I hadn't been tired when I watched it!). I'll keep an eye out for other Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki movies - visually, they're very impressive. As an aside, some of the mechanical devices eg. the ships returning from war and Howl's castle itself reminded me of Terry Gilliam's animations for Monty Python and his creations for 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen'. As I said, I was tired at the time .

There are some big anime fans in the UK, but not many of them. You'd pretty much have to watch it on DVD (reasonably well supported in shops) or online. I found an article titled Why is anime invisible on British TV? that might give you some reasons. This may explain why I've never seen much anime, but, given your enthusiasm for the genre, I'll try to watch some next time I get the chance.

I don't understand the ins and outs of Chase qualification (I'll leave that to Garrett ), but I found the following at gordononline.com: "Jeff Gordon posted a 6th place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway to move within 6 points of the final Chase cutoff. Barring a victory at Richmond, Gordon would need to finish 6 spots ahead of Kurt Busch providing that Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt Jr do not implode."

You're welcome. The subtitles spell it Vivian Stewart, but you're close enough (they sound the same) . The road is either Potrero Canyon Road if you believe Bing Maps, or Pico Canyon Road if you believe Google Maps. Based on the other features in the area, I think I'd go with Pico Canyon Road (I assume named after Pio Pico, the last governor of Alta California under Mexican rule). The current Google image shows the area churned up and very brown, but it's still green on Bing. I'm not sure if the road made it into the Hazzard Square thread, but there are a couple of pictures and a Google Maps link in a thread called Mystery Location.

I grew up in the UK, and in the '80s I remember watching a live action version of Heidi that was dubbed from German, and a live action version of Anne of Green Gables from Canada (the one with Megan Follows). I'm not saying we didn't have the others, but I don't remember anime versions. All this talk of anime reminded me of a scene from 'The Big Bang Theory' where Sheldon points out to Penny that anime and cartoons are not the same:

I don't seem to be having much luck with the TV schedules. I was just flicking channels and found 'Spirited Away' was on, but it was already half over. Knowing the channel it's on, they'll show it again within a week. I've never really watched much anime, but it did remind me of the early '80s when I used to watch 'Battle of the Planets': When I looked it up, I found that it actually dates from 1978 (we may have got it a little later in the UK). It was an American adaptation of an earlier (1972) Japanese series (which you're probably familiar with) called Science Ninja Team Gatchaman/科学忍者隊ガッチャマン (that's how Wikipedia spells it ). If you prefer your anime in Japanese with English subtitles, here's an original episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsqB59YOBHA

My guess is the kid who spits on the rear window of the General. I think he was the son of Ernie Lively (who also appeared in several episodes). I'm going to say his name was Jason Lively. BTW. I'd still suggest that you post the picture of Rick's wedding in the rare picture thread because it's unlikely to be found in the middle of this trivia thread.
