Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion

Today is the 40th anniversary of the first time the greatest television show in history appeared on screen. I didn't see it but I remember people talking about it for awhile so a month later I started watching and haven't stopped and never will stop. Thanks to the creators, stars, production team, stunt people and everybody else who has brought 4 decades of fun and joy into my life.

Has anybody, besides me, got/read Ben Jones' book, Redneck Boy In The Promise Land, The confessions of Crazy Cooter. ? I've got it and it's ok but no big deal. He just talks about how it was growing up etc. It's a big thick book too. It turns out Ben Jones is a Leftist, cashing in on looking like a conservative. There's a lot of that going around these days in radio, TV, etc. I call them CONservatives….with emphasis on the CON! ( You know like the supposedly CONservative talk show hosts, etc.) They know where the money's at and so they sell out their liberal values to make a buck! Hey Hoss, since you are so good at posting screenshots (or screengrabs or whatever they're called) would you consider a funny caption contest? Find something that could potentially be funny and post it and then we (and you too) can respond with a funny caption. Do it once a week or once a month or randomly whenever you want. If you like the idea start a seperate thread from this one. Since you'll be doing all the work your name should be on the headline. Should it be limited to 2 responses per person? If you don't like the idea, no problem. It's just a thought.

Hey everybody, I was just thinking, you know the scenes of the episodes they show, while they're playing the music and the show is coming on? Well, we all know the episodes that the scenes are from but there's one on Coy and Vance's episodes that I don't think ever really happened. Remember when Coy threw Vance a dish in the kitchen and uncle Jesse gave them a hard look? I don't remember that from any episode, do you? ( I'm on season 5 and watching " The Return of The Mean Green Machine " as I type this)

I see that Dave's Mobile Dukes of Hazzard Museum is going to be at the Northeast Ohio Dukes Stunt Show on Saturday Aug 25. For some reason I thought Dave was a member of HazzardNet. Does anybody know?

Has anyone else noticed how, when Boss' speed trap nails a speeder and he has to play and sing to get out of the fine and avoid jail time etc., that that one person sounds like a whole band? A perfect example is Roy Orbison. I just saw him on one and he played an Ovation 6 string acoustic and out of that, came a bass guitar and a drum set.…!!! Why didn't they at least have the entire band there to make it at least LOOK right! Dottie West is another example. They DID have all the Oak Ridge boys there once but most of them were a one man invisible band!

I just noticed something. I was watching " The Late JD Hogg", and the bad guys stole Charlie Watkins car. Remember? If you'll also notice in a lot of episodes, when Uncle Jesse was walking down the street or by someone, he always says to one of the extras, " Hey Charlie". Seems like most of the people in Hazzard were named Charlie!!

Did you ever notice Boss's nephew Huey Hogg, had a brother named Dewey Hogg and he only appeared in one episode but it made me notice, Huey, Dewey,........remember Donald Duck's 3 nephews? Huey, Dewey and Louie! We never got to see a " Louie" though, unfortunately! I think the DOH could've/should've run for a lot longer than it did! Maybe they would've eventually had a " Louie" Hogg!

Hazard made the national news today because the Energy Secretary was there to announce easing of rules that restricted the use of coal in making electricity. Hazard is a coal town and will benefit from the new rules so that's why it was announced there. I remember when the cast of Dukes went there to help with a fundraiser when miners were trapped. At the time the show was in its heyday so it was a pretty big national story.

I notice they do that a lot, and don't see anyone do this in real life until a couple months ago, I seen seem teenagers sitting on the car door. I used to do that sometimes until my Dad said it looks silly, and isn't polite or something like that.

I only have enough to buy one season in september. I own 1, 3, 6, and 7 what would be the best season to buy next? Season 2, season 4 or season 5?

Can anyone know how old Cooter is during the show?

I've seen two things recently that have given me hope. An article about Ray Kohn's jump in Detroit mentioned that the flag wasn't a big issue since people like Dukes so much. I'm pretty bad with finding stuff on the web but I saw an article about how even the mayor had a picture taken with the General. (If someone can refind that and post the link here I'd appreciate it). I also opened my Sunday newspaper and saw a section called Parade that has been around in Sunday's paper as long as I can remember. I just got gone watching "The Great Santa Claus Chase" and will watch the Dukes cartoon Christmas show when my grandkids come over tomorrow. I hope everybody has a very merry Christmas and as Boss says at the end of the episode "And God bless us every one."

My idea of the perfect place to live and the closest thing to heaven on earth, would be to live in Hazzard. Small, slow, simple, everybody knows everybody, laid back society, etc. etc. I usually watch it when I'm going to bed at night and fall asleep to it. It's very relaxing to see that, after living life all day. I go through the whole series, in order and it takes me better than a year, because I watch the same ones over and over, before I change the DVD. This is one of the few shows I like so much, that I never get tired of seeing it. I haven't seen the latter parts of the episodes in a long time, because I always fall asleep...lol ! I never liked the reunion show because the three younger Dukes had abandoned a frail Uncle Jesse and moved away. They never would have done that, at least not all 3 of them. Imagine what Hazzard would be like today. What is your version of it? I think Daisy would live in town married to Sheriff Enos. She would be a manager at a store in town and they'd have twin girls, both seniors in college at Atlanta. Bo never married and moved away and became an administrative executive for NASCAR. Luke still runs the farm with his wife, and youngest son. His other son and daughter have families of their own and live nearby and always bring the grandchildren out to learn farmwor…

If it had been traditional, there probably would have been an overused laugh track and the show would have tried to be preachy and topical with "very special episodes"

I notice this because of "Comrade Duke", "Witness: Jesse Duke", and "Welcome Back, Bo 'n' Luke". They seem more serious than other episodes of the show.
