Dukes MEET Cale Yarborough
-
Yes, it's from 'Dukes Meet Cale Yarborough' in season 2. Daisy volunteers to paint the flag on the fake Generals.

Another Irish track. This was written by one of the band members when he had a teenage crush on a girl a year or two older. He was too shy to talk to her, so one day when he saw her being picked by her boyfriend, he made up this backstory about the boyfriend being an abusive cheater. The 4 Of Us - Mary

The radio station I listen to is compiling a list of their listeners' favorite 100 songs by Irish artists for a countdown finishing on St Patrick's Day. For a small island, there are a lot to choose from! Here's one of my favorites. I hadn't heard it before I moved here, so I don't know how well known it is outside Ireland. Something Happens - Parachute

It looks like Garrett's still logging in, but just not posting at the moment.

I was about to say that those were the only two Semisonic songs I knew, then this one came on as was coming home tonight. 'Secret Smile' is a bit slower than the last two.

I don't think they let you in for using Google! -
I've only ever experienced friendly banter.

They previously had a hit with 'Closing Time' in 1998. "... you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here".

This came up on my playlist earlier today. How can it be 25 years old!? Semisonic - Chemistry

Enos mentions of couple of unseen Hazzardites in 'Enos Strate to the Top' when he's listing the important crimes he's solved: "All I could put down was rescuing Mrs. Finster's cat from a telephone pole and finding Abner Peabody's long-johns after the hurricane of '72."

Here's a video about a decisive day near the start of World War II. British pilots, along with help from others from Poland, allies and Commonwealth nations, saw off the Luftwaffe and indefinitely postponed the German invasion of Britain. Among the commenters are actor/presenter Nicholas Parsons, former Member of Parliament Tony Benn, "Forces Sweetheart" Dame Vera Lynn, art critic Brian Sewell and comedy writer Jimmy Perry (who co-wrote the much-loved WWII sitcom 'Dad's Army' about the Home Guard). Some of them were young children at the time, and tell how their view of war went from excitement to horror, but also how a lot of mundane activities continued despite everything going on around them. There are also interviews with pilots and the people plotting the battles. This is "World War II: The 13 Hours That Saved Britain". It's 48 minutes long, but well worth it.

It seems to be mainly female artists catching my ear with new music at the moment. First and most recent, Irish rock band Florence Road. A change of style for the track. This is British singer Raye. This song mixes several styles (R&B, soul, pop, big band and a bit of gospel) at a fast pace. She's touring the US between March and May. Finally, a change of pace for another British singer. Olivia Dean recently won the Grammy for Best New Artist.

I'd never heard of this before. Adrian IV, the only English pope, allegedly gave King Henry II permission to rule the island of Ireland, probably to impose Catholicism on the population. However, it's still debated as to whether the papal decree ever existed. -
Do you mean biscuits as in biscuits and gravy, because if you do we don't have them here. They seem to be a US and Canada thing. The nearest we have are scones, which tend to be sweet and often contain dried fruit. What we call biscuits are what you guys call cookies.

I've only ever bought buttermilk for making soda bread, and I haven't done that for a few years.

When I was growing up in the UK, Heineken's slogan was "Refreshes the parts other beers cannot reach". Apparently they used this from 1973 to 2005. More recently they've been sponsoring international sports like football (soccer), rugby and F1. The F1 adverts have concentrated on the "When You Drive, Never Drink" message. Here's one with ex-F1 driver Sir Jackie Stewart: The newest F1 adverts are for their alcohol-free Heineken 0.0 brand. Sadly, it was announced earlier today that Heineken are cutting 6,000 jobs from their global workforce. People just aren't drinking as much lager as they used to.
