Favorite books and authors

Well was on Youtube.com for one of my favorite authors and his main character and came up with the idea of a favorite books or author thread here for anyone else who likes to read.

My favorite authors are:

Michael Connelly

John Lescroart

Steve Martini

I am hooked on these four author's books...once a new book comes out, I have to get it in my collection and to read it. Each book hard to put down and once it is over, leaves me looking forward to the next book of that author to come out.

My second favorite author would be J.K. Rowling. I love the Harry Potter series.

Third would be Dan Brown. I love Bad Omens, Angels and Demons and the Divinci Code.

Fourth would be Stephen King, Rose Red and the Diary of Ellen Rembaur: My Life at Rose Red.

Fifth would be Anne Rice. The Vampire Chronicles. The REAL non-sparkly vampires.

I don't read a lot of fiction. If I do pick up a book, it's likely to be a biography or a book about WWII. Having said that, I do have a few favorites:

Douglas Adams - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy/Dirk Gently.

Ian Fleming - James Bond novels.

Alistair MacLean - various action thrillers.

Spike Milligan - war diaries, blurring the line between fact and fiction, but very funny. To give you an idea of what they're like, the first in the series in called 'Adolf Hitler: My Part in his Downfall '.

I'm just about always reading. My favorite authors, I guess would be Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Jim Butcher, Rob Thurman, PN Elrod, and Karen Slaughter. My all time favorite book, though, is Good Omens/Bad Omens by Terry Pratchett - I love the Satanic order of the Babbling nuns who can never stop talking, no matter what, and the Hell-hound named Dog. (Yes, I know, I'm twisted lol:wink:)

I completely forgot Terry Pratchett. It's been ages since I read a Discworld novel. I liked Mort where Death always speaks in capital letters and has a horse called Binky.

I'm like you Hoss. I don't read much fiction. I mostly read books about astronomy and the global economy. (The two subjects might not be related but they both deal with a lot of big numbers). LOL

I used to read more fiction. My favorite author is Jack London who wrote Call of the Wild and White Fang.

One of the most amazing things I ever read is a short story of his about how it felt to freeze to death. The story was so well written you could read it in a heat wave and still get the chills.

"To Build a Fire"

I read that back in 7th grade and haven't been able to read it again since. Speaking of short stories, one that stuck with me is "All Summer in a Day" is a short story by science fiction author Ray Bradbury.

There's a list I have of a few favorite authors, but one that's always stuck out in my mind is Cormac McCarthy, author of books like No Country For Old Men, and The Road, both of which have been turned into major motion pictures.

His writing style is definitely odd and different, for example, no use of quotation marks when people are speaking... Sounds weird, I know, but you get used to it after a little while. He definitely writes the coolest books though.

I mainly read fiction...if you can tell by my list of favorite authors. My library contains all of their books with a few others. They are either lawyer or police books with a lot of action.

Though I do read a few nonfiction books from time to time. Though it is normally about a person I like or some topic I like. I like to read Cesar Millan books. He is the Dog Whisperer on the TV show on National Geographic channel: Dog Whisperer. My dog is pretty well behaved, but it is interesting to watch him work and to read up on his advice on all the dog topics out there.

I enjoyed reading James Best's book...it was very interesting to read about our very own Rosco Coltrane. LOL. At the moment, I am in the middle of reading Ben Jones' book "A Redneck Boy in the Promised Land" something like that. So far, I am enjoying it, though there has been a few sad parts in it.

Terri Irwin (Steve Irwin's wife) wrote a book about Steve (Crocidile Hunter) that I enjoyed reading as well.

Never thought of listing the different types of books...good idea. I mainly read fiction as I said, but I have read a few nonfiction as well.

I am a history buff, so most of my favorite books are non-fiction. I mostly like to read books about the Texas Revolution, more specific the siege and battle of the Alamo. But I read other books about other historical events aswell. Here are some of my favorites:

It's about time I read another Discworld novel. One of the contestants on last night's TV quiz Mastermind had the Discworld novels as their specialist subject.

Yes to both! I caught it when my local PBS station reran Jeeves & Wooster a couple years after it originally aired, and it was what made me a Fry & Laurie fan. It's thoroughly charming and I still go back and re-watch it every once in a while.

I like the idea of Discworld as a specialist subject.
