Jesse put Luke back to bed and tucked him in again.

"Luke you are staying in here and you are going to nap properly otherwise I will take that fawn to Farmer Jensen and let him look after it, you understand?!"

"Heck Hughie Hogg can't pull off a dry look either...he's still as ugly as a possum's fanny," said Luke "Course....I should't be so mean t the poor possum," he added.

Luke pretended to take a whiff of him. "Coulda fooled me...ya smell like ya live in there with her..." he teased, a half-grin on his face.

Jesse wiped them away softly, running his hand through Luke's hair gently.

"Now you get some sleep...me an' yer Aunt are watching the fawn....we'll come get ya if it needs somethin'."

Lavinia, having missed Bo from where he was playing, had a pretty good idea where to find him walked over and watched him sitting beside the fawn. "Bo...didn't I tell ya t stay away from the poor thing?" she asked softly.

Bo looked to her as she sat down beside him and crawled into her lap, cuddling up and sucking his thumb gently. He could sense something was wrong, though he didn't know or understand what.

Lavinia rocked little Bo in her arms as she held him, thinking to herself that there were many similarities between the baby boy in her arms and the baby deer laying on the floor. Both were orphaned far too young, both had the odds against them, Bo with his asthma and the fawn with it's injury and blood loss... and both had won over Luke's heart.
