February 14, 200818 yr Lavinia nodded. "Must be hungry today."Luke toddled over sitting down next to the fawn.
February 14, 200818 yr Author Jesse nodded, pleased that Bo was eating more. For a one year old, Bo was small for his age due to his premature birth and the long stay in the hospital. He had never had much of an appetite but by the looks of things recently that was changing.Sitting down with Luke again, he lifted the fawn's head and showed him how to feed the fawn so that it didn't get too much milk at once but got enough.
February 14, 200818 yr Luke watched and listened as Jesse showed him how to feed the fawn before taking the bottle and ever so carefully feeding it himself.
February 14, 200818 yr Author Jesse continued to hold the fawn's head up, gently encouraging it to drink by massaging its throat with his fingers. Soon the little fawn was sucking softly at the bottle, drinking the milk.
February 14, 200818 yr Author The fawn shifted a little as it drank, still very weak but getting uncomfortable just laying on its side. Jesse gently stopped Luke from feeding it, unwrapping the little thing carefully before turning it so it could lay on its other side before wrapping it back up again and getting the fawn started on the milk again.
February 14, 200818 yr Author Jesse sighed softly as he made sure the fawn was settled, before saying quietly."I don't know Luke...either...she's abandoned the little thing because its injured or...or its passed on son.."
February 14, 200818 yr Author Jesse continued to watch them both until the fawn refused to drink anymore, carefully laying the little head back down and covering it back up properly as it drifted back to sleep.
February 14, 200818 yr Luke looked at the fawn gently. "I don't want her to go to heaven," he said softly.
February 15, 200818 yr Author Jesse looked to Luke, sighing gently again and shaking his head."Luke I tol' ya not t'get attatched..."
February 15, 200818 yr Author Jesse shook his head and gently pulled the little boy into his lap, holding him close. For such a young person, Luke had already experienced so much tragedy. No kid that young should have to go through something as traumatic as losing your parents at the same time...all Luke had ever really known is death and illness of the ones he loved the most...Jesse wished he could show him it didn't all have to be that way.
February 15, 200818 yr "Uncle Jesse...is...is there somethin wrong with me?" asked Luke softly, tears dripping again down his cheeks.
February 15, 200818 yr Author "Wrong with you? No course not, why would ya think there was?"Jesse asked softly.
February 15, 200818 yr Luke sniffed a little before saying innocently. "Everytime I love someone...they leave me an' go to heaven."
February 15, 200818 yr Author Jesse swallowed softly, not knowing how to explain this concept to a child."Son...passin' on is a natural part of life...aint nothin' certain that we's gonna live fer long or live a little life...not everyone ya love has passed on son..me an' yer Aunt's still here...an' Bo's still battlin' on...Daisy's here too an' this little one ain't passed yet...what happened to yer momma and daddy was a terrible accident..."
February 15, 200818 yr Luke looked to the little deer wanting more than anything to believe it would live.
February 28, 200818 yr Author Jesse watched his gaze with another small sigh, running a hand softly through Luke's dark curls."I want this lil' thing to live as much as you do son...and I've always said that love and care is a miracle worker in itself so it might well happen...I just asked that you didn't get yer hopes up in case it was too sick to keep goin'...that's all..."
