February 7, 200818 yr "I'll make her up some mash...you'll have to make sure she gets plenty to eat...and lots of water... and clean up after it...til she can go out in the coop with the oithers..." answered Lavinia.
February 7, 200818 yr Author Bo nodded with a smile and looked back down at the chick in his hand that was starting to settle into sleep peacefully, stroking its little head with his own tiny finger softly. For a toddler, Bo was exceptionally careful.
February 7, 200818 yr Jesse and Lavinia just watched him smiling, as Luke leaned against his aunt hugging her to him.
February 7, 200818 yr Author **END FLASHBACK**"I remember that now! He took such good care of it! That chicken would follow him around like a dog follows its master!"Daisy exclaimed softly, not disturbing the boys sleep.
February 7, 200818 yr Author "Aww...that was so sweet when he showed me...he doted over that thing..."She said with a smile, looking to Bo as she did before asking eagerly."What about Luke?"
February 7, 200818 yr Author "The fa...oooh the fawn...oh that was sweet..."Daisy crooned softly, remembering the little thing.
February 7, 200818 yr ****flashback****Luke ran breathlessly to the farmhouse. "Unca Jesse! Unca Jesse! Come quick!!!"
February 8, 200818 yr Author Jesse looked up from where he was chopping vegetables as Luke came running in, out of breath and looking a little upset."What's the matter son?"
February 8, 200818 yr As always when anything bothered Luke a great deal, he had trouble expressing himself with words. Instead he took his uncle's hand and begged him to follow him.
February 8, 200818 yr Luke hurriedly led his uncle to a small clearing in the woods. There, laying shivering with its leg bleeding was a small fawn, with white spots adorning its back. "Shurt Unca Jesse...we gotta help it!"
February 8, 200818 yr Author Jesse bit his lip as he looked over the little thing. It was freezing, its mother had to be either dead or had abandoned it, and it looked like it had hurt a lot of blood already. Either way, the chances looked bleak that it would survive much longer, with or without help."Son...we can try and help it...but...you have t'be aware that it might not survive anyway..."
February 8, 200818 yr "No...no it will...it will...please Unca Jesse...please.." begged Luke more in tears over this little fawn than he had been since he first came to live on the farm. "Please!" he begged soft tears rolling down his cheeks.
February 8, 200818 yr Author Jesse sighed and nodded a little, bending down to pick the weak little animal up."Alright son, you run ahead and get me some blankets...tell yer auntie that we need some formula made up too.."
February 8, 200818 yr Luke nodded and ran ahead sking his aunt to do the things Jesse had told him, laying the blankets in a small pile in the kitchen where it was warmest.
February 8, 200818 yr Author Jesse soon came through the door, having wrapped the fawn's leg with his handkerchief.
February 8, 200818 yr Author Jesse carefully put the fawn in the blankets that Luke had laid out, shaking his head a little."Luke listen, you gotta be quiet son or yer gonna frighten it...Lavinia would ya call the vet please..."
February 8, 200818 yr Luke covered his mouth with his hands to remind himself to be quiet. "Will he be o?" asked Luke in a whisper.Lavinia meanwhile phoned the vet.
