RogerDuke Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I only had NBC my entire childhood so missed a lot of shows. When I was 19 and Dukes came out I would go to my grandparents to watch it. They could afford a nicer antenna and really tall pole for it. Tom Duke and Skipper Duke 2 Quote
Tom Duke Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 https://youtu.be/YdGa6TBwWgQ?feature=shared I grew up on this classic as a kid, from a very young age. Although some of you may remember it aired under a different name in America on PBS I only discovered Dukes when my adoptive dad came into the scene lol. Funny, my 2 childhood favourites both wore Number One Skipper Duke 1 Quote
HossC Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I've never heard of Shining Time Station. Before it became Thomas and Friends, it was simply The Railway Stories by the Rev. W. Awdry, and that's what I grew up with. Although I know that Ringo Starr narrated Thomas and Friends when it changed its name and came to TV, I haven't seen many of those episodes. I used to have LPs with the stories read by British TV presenter Johnny Morris. He was best known for presenting a zoological kid's TV show called 'Animal Magic'. He'd narrate it and do voices for the animals. Tom Duke 1 Quote
Webb Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Growing up at my grandparents we watched shows like Dukes, The Golden Girls, Three’s Company, All in The Family, Mash, & Smokey and The Bandit ( not a show but love it just as much as Dukes ) too many to name so many classics. But nothing will ever compare to Dukes. Hobie Hartkins and Skipper Duke 1 1 Quote

Spike Posted September 14 Posted September 14 (edited) Dukes of Hazzard of course seasons 6 & 7 I remember watching as a child, local CBS station aired reruns on Saturday mornings. Knight Rider Star Trek reruns Star Trek The Next Generation Buck Rogers Mama's Family The Simpsons Garfield and Friends Batman the animated series Batman and Robin reruns Looney Tunes Teenage mutant ninja turtles Married with Children Cheers Murder She Wrote when I was at the grandparents house. Motorweek This Old House Don't remember the name but it was a Yankee guy that woodworked with antique tools on PBS. The intro was him running through the woods to his woodshop. Local PBS channel ran reruns of it up until a few years ago. Wife loved when it would come on Saturday afternoons because she would take great naps . Thomas and Friends also had George Carlin for a season or two as narrator as well. Edited September 14 by Spike Quote

Could it have been 'The New Yankee Workshop'? Norm Abram, who was also on 'This Old House', made some amazing items out of wood on that show. Skipper Duke 1 Quote

It was The Woodwrights Shop with Roy Underhill. After googling it he was from North Carolina. Hobie Hartkins 1 Quote
Tom Duke Posted September 23 Author Posted September 23 Does anyone here remember a guy on PBS called Bob Ross? His voice was so relaxing! Spike 1 Quote

Yep I kinda remember reruns of that guy on my local pbs too I think, and yes George Carlin did do a few seasons with Thomas, lol perhaps this will bring back memories In addition to Dukes I recently started to collect the vintage diecast models made for the Thomas show. (Ironically made by ERTL as well ) Spike 1 Quote

We had 'The New Yankee Workshop' and 'This Old House' on TV in the UK about 20 years ago (I haven't seen them recently). I'll have to check out 'The Woodwrights Shop' - it's a new one to me. It's so odd for me listening to Thomas being narrated by an American. The fictional setting of the Island of Sodor is so British (it's meant to be located in the Irish Sea between the English mainland and the Isle of Man). BTW. Last weekend marked the 80th anniversary of The Railway Stories (AKA. Thomas and Friends) - there's an article about it here. At least the music's good to dance to. I think he would have made more Yankee Workshop episodes but financing became an issue. According to Wikipedia he has bought a new 'old' house in Rhode Island and is building a new workshop and learning shipbuilding. Roger Cook on This Old House unfortunately got very ill and passed away. They did a special about him. Tom Silva and Richard Trethewey are still on the show though. Since WB/Discovery bought This Old House they changed the format up. Now they show 3 houses a season in about 8 episodes each with 2 new builders across the country. They do one house a season in the Massachusetts area. A lot less showing how things are built though but I get it America has a short attention span these days. Quote

This one cat we had would, if he was sleeping wake up, or come running from the other rooms when he heard Bob Ross's voice on tv. And he would sit there and watch the whole episode. God help you if you changed the channel lol. When company was over and wanted to watch something different he would protest . Then when the episode was over he'd go back to whatever he was doing before. Quote
