Christmas 2024

Featured Replies

Another Christmas.....another Christmas thread. I've been watching Cristmas cartoons. And yes, sitting with Mrs. Duke watching Hallmark Christmas movies. (she's not really big on the cartoons). What are you folks doing to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year?

We wrap up at work tomorrow and then I get two weeks off, but we had to keep holiday aside to get paid throughout the time off.

In other news, Taoiseach [Irish Prime Minister] Simon Harris has assured the nation that Christmas will go ahead as planned, as Santa Claus will be allowed into Irish airspace on the night of 24 December. In a video posted to Instagram, he said: “This authorisation will allow Santa [to] enter Irish airspace, will allow him have access to any airports or airfields that he requires on Christmas Eve so that he can get all of the presents to all of the boys and girls right across the country.”

I'm still having a good Christmas. wife is off, her kin aren't coming around and I've got several days of laying around to do! :)

You reminded me of a joke I heard on the radio last week. It was something like "Some people will spend Christmas alone without any contact from friends or family, but there's no need for them to gloat about it!" :)

Everybody staying up until midnight Tuesday? I always do. Mrs Duke doesn't.

If I do, it's only because I am too lazy to get to bed. I've never gotten too big on the New Years. 2025 will mark a quarter into the "new" century . . . wasn't the whole Y2K only last year? ;) LOL

I've never really celebrated the New Year, and I only remember one time when I spent it in a pub. When I was younger I used to at least stay up until midnight. Back in the late-80s/early-90s, when we only had a handful of TV channels, the BBC used to see out the year with Australian broadcaster Clive James' review of the year on New Year's Eve. After that, it was musician Jools Holland's 'Jools' Annual Hootenanny' - a show featuring a wide variety of musical acts, some performing with Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. The latter is still on tonight, but these days I'm usually in bed by the time midnight rolls around.

Here's a sample from the 2012 'Jools' Annual Hootenanny':

Wasn't planning on it and was sleeping nicely till midnight then it sounded like a warzone outside from all the gunshots for 10+ minutes. Browsing the local subReddit and Ring Neighbors we weren't the only ones that heard all the gunshots. I was half expecting to find gunshot holes in our cars this morning from all the racket but luckily there wasn't.

Happy New Year

The older you are, the faster time flys!!

Always thought that after I retired it wouldn't feel that way any more  but it still does.

I hope you all had a great Christmas. I spent my Christmas/birthday in the ER. :( But I'm doing better. Wishes for a happy and healthy New Year for all of you.

That's a terrible way to spend Christmas/birthday. But the fact that you are doing better is the most important part. Hearing that is a late Christmas present to all of us here who love you so much. ❤

I was in bed but still awake at midnight. I'm pretty sure that I heard a few fireworks (which are illegal here), but that's as far as it went.
