There a meme that's been going around for a while now that says:

If you think you are smarter than the previous generation...50 years ago the owners' manual of a car showed you how to adjust the valves. Today it warns you not to drink the contents of the battery.

I'm not sure if it's true, but it kinda sums up the situation.

As Spike says, a lot seem to expect a certain level of pay even when they're just starting out. One of the younger guys where I work is constantly asking how much extra he'll get for anything slightly out of the ordinary and wants his gas paid for if he has to drive to a site.

    There's another meme that says:

If we all switched to cursive handwriting and manual transmissions, we could cripple an entire generation of idiots.

I've also seen it with analogue clocks added into the list. Having said that, less and less new cars are available with a manual transmission (they've always been way less popular in the US compared to Europe), so do this generation need to know how to drive them? Things move on. There are plenty of things that this generation do in which I have no interest, e.g. paying for something with my phone. Over 50+ years I've developed ways of doing things that I know work. There may be better ways of doing them, but the old phrase about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks rings true sometimes!

I can't remember the name of the show. It was a couple of years ago now.

I watched it once, but it must've been over 40 years ago.
The captain was played by Laurence Naismith in 'A Night to Remember'.

Fifteen years before 'Titanic', Bernard Hill played a very different character called Yosser Hughes in a gritty British drama series called 'Boys From the Black Stuff'. It followed the lives of five unemployed men in Liverpool in 1982. Here's Hughes as Yosser with what became a catchphrase of the time (UK unemployment hit 3 million around this time). His character also had a violent side, frequently head-butting people with what became known as a 'Yosser Kiss'.

I've seen a documentary on the theory that there was a fire in one of the bunkers, and it was a convincing argument, but many experts don't seem to think that there was any such fire.

I looked up filming locations for Little House on the Prairie on IMDb, and the only two I recognized as Dukes filming locations were Lake Sherwood (apparently used for homestead exteriors) and Laramie Street at Warner Bros' Studios. Lake Sherwood was the more rural of these locations, but I haven't heard this story. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for sharing.

The Georgia episodes were first, then they moved filming to California. The Warner Bros' back lot appeared in all seven seasons for the urban scenes, but rural scenes were filmed mainly on Disney's Golden Oaks Ranch, Lake Sherwood and Valencia Oaks Ranch in that order (as well as surrounding roads).

There are several mentions of Golden Oaks in the Hazzard Square thread. We also discussed its use in the Herbie movies in this thread.

IMDb says that the final episode, 'Opening Night at the Boar's Nest', was filmed between December 20, 1984 and January 2, 1985. That's only just over a month before the original air date of February 8, 1985. Remember that much like Wikipedia, these sections of IMDb are edited by the public, so you might want to double-check the filming dates with another source.

I commented on the misidentification of the 00 as Cooter's Mustang in the Dukes of Hazzard Diecast Models thread. I also mentioned the additional erroneous hood scoop on the newer models and the failure of the manufacturers to make it more screen-correct. My 2001 model just says "1968 Mustang GT" on the box. If you read further down the diecast thread, you'll also see where they could've made Cooter's Camaro (yes, this one was Cooter's from 'Luke's Love Story') closer to the one on the show, and put the right wheels on Daisy's Roadrunner.

Not to worry, Spike, thanks for keeping us updated. There are more and more names I don't recognize in the results - I'll have to try and catch a race again sometime.

I was up early this morning (6am local time) to watch the Australian Grand Prix - the first to be held there since 2019. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc snatched pole position yesterday ahead of the two Red Bulls. His team mate, Carlos Sainz Jr., got caught out by a red flag and only qualified 9th. Mercedes still haven't got a handle on their new car, but Lewis Hamilton and George Russell qualified 5th and 6th behind the McLaren of Lando Norris.

In the race, Carlos Sainz Jr. had a bad start and then beached his car in the gravel after only one lap. Both Mercedes cars made up places at the start, but it was Charles Leclerc's Ferrari and Max Verstappen's Red Bull that led the way for most of the race. George Russell managed to leapfrog Lewis Hamilton by pitting under a safety car. Towards the end, Max Verstappen had another mechanical failure, which means that he's had two DNFs in three races. Maybe it's karma for the way he won last year's championship!

    The top 10 were:
1 Charles Leclerc Ferrari  2 Sergio Perez Red Bull  3 George Russell Mercedes  4 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes  5 Lando Norris McLaren  6 Daniel Ricciardo McLaren  7 Esteban Ocon Alpine  8 Valtteri Bottas Alfa Romeo  9 Pierre Gasly AlphaTauri  10 Alex Albon Williams  That's three British drivers in the top 5, a good double points finish for McLaren, and the first point of the year for Williams.

You can watch the race highlights here.

Thanks, Roger. HazzardNet is very much a team effort by all the Hazzardites.

I hope everyone's enjoying their turkey. I probably won't get any until nearer Christmas when turkey and ham starts to appear on menus. One of the local sandwich shops usually does a turkey, ham, stuffing and cranberry mayonnaise special which I'm looking forward to.

Thanks, Spike. It's been a while since the two have coincided, not that we celebrate Thanksgiving over here. As mentioned above, we do now have Black Friday. So far I've just had a quiet day at home. Hopefully I'll get to see a few friends over the weekend.
