  1. Because there was a green-white-checker finish with a couple of extra laps it allowed Jimmie Johnson to overtake David Ragan. Poor Roger just can't catch a break this year .
  2. You were right to agree with BL, Roger. The answer is the diamond cuff links. In my last post I mentioned 'The Ghost of General Lee'. At the start of the episode we see the bad guys being thrown out of a neighboring county, but which one?: A) Springville Choctaw C) Hatchapee D) Sweetwater E) Finchburg F) Riverton
  3. This ain't no Don Williams song, but it has the same title, and came out seven years earlier. I'd guess that the 1981 cover by Madness is better known in the UK - Labi Siffre even makes a cameo in .
  4. I like seeing the whole lineup, but because the forum ignores tabs, I find the inclusion of the car numbers makes it harder to read. See what you think of the list with and without the numbers: 1. 18 Kyle Busch 2 56 Martin Truex Jr. 3 11 Denny Hamlin 4 5 Kasey Kahne 5 43 Aric Almirola 6 78 Kurt Busch etc., etc. or 1. Kyle Busch 2. Martin Truex Jr. 3. Denny Hamlin 4. Kasey Kahne 5. Aric Almirola 6. Kurt Busch etc., etc.
  5. Sorry BL, you fell for my trap. There was a gold watch involved in the plot of 'The Ghost of General Lee' (it's in the safe that's stolen from the Boar's Nest). Seeing as Roger is on his "computer vacation", why not have a second guess .

I know MaryAnne has posted a couple of Boz Scaggs tracks here, but this one was new to me when I heard it yesterday. This was another track that appeared in the 'Cover to Cover' feature on a radio show I listen to. This is the cover version, and it was pitted against . Two of the versions of 'Louie Louie' that I posted recently also featured on the same show. For a few more original/cover comparisons, check out the Tower of Song thread.
  7. Seeing as I heard a radio interview with band-member Graham Gouldman earlier today: The Things We Do For Love - 10cc Trust you to find a picture of Diana Rigg alongside Robert Culp from an obscure ITV drama series from the 1970s. Although she's probably best known as Emma Peel in 'The Avengers', to me she'll always be Tracy Di Vicenzo to George Lazenby's James Bond in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. "She's having a rest. We'll be going on soon. There's no hurry, you see. ." Such a sad ending. Were you trying to post the version by The Four Seasons, Grapefruit, or Donny Osmond? There's only another two that I can think of, and they're both a bit more downbeat: (Live)So Long, Marianne - Leonard Cohen I noticed that one person had commented on both videos. They commented "That awesome moment when my own name is Marianne......" to Tori Amos, and "That awkward moment when my own name is Marianne........" to Leonard Cohen - draw from that what you will .
  8. Sorry BL, neither of your answers were right, and it's only half points for Roger. The actor's name is Boyd Bodwell, and he played a hijacked truck driver in 'Road Pirates'. He returned with a bigger part in season 3 where he played 'Benny the Quill' in 'Baa, Baa White Sheep'. Here's a couple of pictures from those episodes (new question below): In 'The Treasure of Soggy Marsh', Coy, Vance and Daisy set off for Chickasaw to collect some menus for Boss, unaware that they are being framed for theft. What does Boss tell Sheriff Little they stole? A) Jewelled tiara Antique pocket watch C) Sapphire necklace D) Diamond cuff links E) Solid silver bracelet

Soon after my last post I heard the sad news that British actor Clive Dunn had passed away at the age of 92. He usually played characters older than himself, and in 1970 released the single below: To save y'all the math, he was only 50 at the time. He was best known for playing the part of Lance-Corporal Jack Jones, the town butcher, in the long-running British sitcom 'Dad's Army', where his catchphrases were "don't panic" and "they don't like it up 'em". You can see a short clip .RIP. Clive Robert Benjamin Dunn OBE (9 January 1920 – 7 November 2012)

Here's an instrumental tune that's known to millions around the world as the theme from 'Top Gear', although a remixed version has been used in recent years. The show started back in 1977, and survived 11 years and 19 series before Jeremy Clarkson joined the team. The show got a complete makeover in 2002 to become the program we know today (a templete used for the US version and others around the world). When I was finding this on YouTube I discovered that the original closing theme for the show was Elton John's 'Out of the Blue'. It's a hard track to find (partly because he did a similarly titled track for the animated movie 'The Road to El Dorado' in 2000). I did eventually find a clip of the closing credits from 1991. I knew the tune instantly, but never knew it was by Elton John:
  11. I'm not sure if this counts as a one hit wonder - it's their only song that I can remember. I have for you by The Who. From what I've read, the lyrics may be slightly dubious, but they hide it with ambiguity. Your part seems to be played by Diana Rigg in this video .
  12. I first looked for the location of the dam from 'The Ransom of Hazzard County' way back near the start of this thread. After checking a few possible locations I relegated the pictures to my 'unknown' selection. Since my original search I have developed a better understanding of the way the camera can make things look much nearer, for example, when I first saw the picture below I thought I was looking for quite a narrow dam, yet if you check the third picture in this post you'll see how big the curved part in the middle of this picture really is. Also, as I've mentioned a couple of times recently, Google has improved its mapping of some areas of interest a great deal over the last year or two. Even this shot only gave me an idea of height, not width: It turns out that what we're looking at is the northern end of the Sherwood Dam which is at the eastern end of Lake Sherwood. The picture below is looking south - explore the view for yourself on Google Maps. Despite the lake being drained in the '80s, the dam still looks the same. What has changed is the number of houses on the northern lakeshore. It's hard to tell from the aerial views, but it looks like the access road may now be private property. Here's a comparison map that shows the new road (East Potrero Road) at the top and the new housing along the shore. The cul-de-sac with the darker tarmac on the left of the color map is probably as close as you'll get nowadays. That's probably enough dam photos for now!
  13. Points for BL and double points for Roger as he was correct twice! Bobby Lee's dog was called 'Max'. To clear up the others: 'London' was the dog that played 'The Littlest Hobo', 'Duke' belonged to 'The Beverly Hillbilies', 'Eddie' belonged to Frasier's dad, Martin, in 'Frasier' (the dog, 'Moose', even made the credits), and 'Freeway' belonged to Jonathan and Jennifer Hart in 'Hart to Hart' (who, coincidentally, were taken care of by someone called 'Max'!). The next question was inspired by a re-run of 'Cheers' that I saw during the week. In one episode I saw a guest actor I recognized from Dukes (see picture below). In 'Cheers' he played Kevin, a man having doubts about becoming a monk, but which two episodes of Dukes was he in? A) The Meeting Road Pirates C) Officer Daisy Duke D) Baa, Baa White Sheep E) Good Neighbors Duke F) The Hack of Hazzard
  14. Thanks Roger; Jonathan Goldsmith (the Dos Equis guy) is 74, and at last count I was still holding steady at three gray hairs!. Roger and Daney have the answer between them. The episode was 'Coy Meets Girl', the character was Bobby Lee and her real name is Michele Greene. As Daney said, Michele's biggest part since Dukes was 'Abby Perkins' in 'L.A. Law' (sorry, it was popular over here, but I never watched it). Since then she has had acting credits for nearly every year up to the last I could find, 'Connie Faber' in season 9 of 'CSI: Miami'. As well as acting, Michele has also released two critically acclaimed bilingual albums in the past 10 years ('Ojo de Tiburon' in 2002 and 'Luna Roja' in 2006) under the name Michele Dominguez Greene. I couldn't find anything on YouTube, but you can listen to samples of her music on her MySpace page. Check out her website, and you can also see the books she's written. Here's some pictures of Michele in Dukes - apologies for the topless shot (of Byron!). Next question below. As a follow-up to the last question; what was the name of Bobby Lee's dog (below)? The rest of the choices are all dogs that have appeared in other TV shows, so even if you can't remember the answer, you might be able to get it by eliminating the others! A) London Duke C) Eddie D) Max E) Freeway Bonus points for naming the shows that the others appeared in.
  15. Oh Roger, you need to learn from the Dos Equis guy : The answer is Angela Lansbury, although I read the information on IMDb rather than in a book. I guess it just proves what American humorist and showman Will Rogers once said: "An ignorant person is one who doesn't know what you have just found out." Then again, he also said "A fool and his money are soon elected." I have another picture question now. Can you identify the Dukes guest actor from this more recent photo? I'll narrow it down a bit: she was in one of the Coy and Vance episodes. As usual, you can give her real name, the name of the part she played, or even a description if you can't remember either.
  16. Hi Jamie, welcome to HNet. I hope you'll be posting pictures of your General.
  17. West Coast Customs made a 2008 Charger into a 2-door with paint scheme that hinted at the General: HNet member 09general has modified a 2009 Charger. You can see the pictures here. I've also seen the following computer-generated concept for a 2010 Charger: But that looks more like a '68 from the front. The body kit/modifications on your picture are the closest I've seen to a modern version of the '69 Charger.
  18. Going back to their 1991 album, 'Pocket Full of Kryptonite' ... Then you may also like .You know you sure look fine ... can I take you home tonight?
  19. Just to clear up any ambiguity, it was Denny Hamlin who got caught speeding twice and had to go to the garage after stopping on track.
  20. To celebrate 50 years of James Bond, and the launch of 'Skyfall', I thought it was time to do my first British car. Y'all may be expecting an Aston Martin DB5, and I may do one in the future. I also thought about doing the Lotus Esprit that turned into a submarine in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'; again, I'm tempted. In the end I went for the Lotus Esprit Turbo Series 2 (S2) from 'For Your Eyes Only'. Later generations of the car became curvier (remember the car near the start of 'Pretty Woman'), but the more angular, early-80s cars are the ones I go for. The turbocharged Essex-spec S2 may have only had a 2.2 litre engine, but it produced 210 bhp. Coupled with a lightweight body, it was capable of around 150 mph, 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and could still return 15-20 mpg (US); not bad for a car in 1980. The white car below appeared in the Spanish sequence of the movie. Pay particular attention to triangular red sticker on the side window; one of the bad guys ignored it with explosive consequences. The original script called for the car above to be reassembled, but they found the white body didn't show up well against the snow in Italy. A decision was made to spray the car a beautiful copper color. They also added the gold wheels and a ski rack to create one of my favorite movie cars, ever! For those of you that are interested, they are Olin Mark VI skis with Tyrolia (360D, I think) bindings.
  21. I tried to think of a song with "this" in the title, but then thought I could do better ... More Than This - Roxy Music My heart sank when I typed "More Than This" into YouTube and was offered One Direction. I hope it's not a cover of the song above, and have no interest in finding out!
