You forgot another remake of The Longest Yard... Mean Machine 2001 This is a British remake of the movie except instead of football it is soccer...I have this on DVD and I like it better than the Adam Sandler one, but not as good as the original... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005JKZ0/qid=1133474430/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-4812918-2019307?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130 Plot Synopsis: Disgraced ex-England captain (Danny 'Mean Machine' Meehan) is thrown in jail for assaulting two police officers. Whilst in jail, he doesn't recieve any favours because of his celebrity status in the outside world. He is out numbered and many prisoners constantly barrage him with insults for letting down his country in a crucial World Cup game. He keeps his head down and has the opportunity to forget everything and change the lives of the prisoners. These prisoners have the chance to put one over the evil guards. The prisoners are lead by Danny and the whole of the prison, guards aside, are behind them. Game on...... Amazon.com British soccer star Vinnie Jones stars as--no big stretch--a former soccer star named Danny "Mean Machine" Meehan who gets arrested for drunken assault and sent to prison for three years. Behind bars he finds himself embroiled in web of prison politics, caught between a governor with a gambling problem, a crime boss who lost a lot of money on a game that Meehan lost, and a motley crew of surly prisoners and guards with grudges. It all culminates in a soccer match between a team of guards, led by a hard-nosed warden, and a team of convicts, led by Meehan. Mean Machine is a remake of the Burt Reynolds movie The Longest Yard and the plot is pretty sure-fire; it's hard not to get caught up in the tensions of the big game. Plus, the comical game commentators give the movie a good jolt of humor. --Bret Fetzer I'm gone Darrell

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Turkey day with all your loved ones..... I hope everyone here at H-Net enjoys their Thanksgiving , just remember not to eat too much turkey and fixin's.. By the way , what is everyone having for Thanksgiving? Turkey -Maple and bacon glazed ( my wife saw a recipe and wants to try it) Homemade stuffing, yams, homemade cranberry sauce, Dallas Cowboys football....I guess the usual Thanksgiving meal.. Happy Thanksgiving. Darrell

Hell NO...........As I am in the minority, as you say, of the PRO movie, there aren't many PRO movie threads as there are ANTI movie ones. And I am sure there will others that will post the same old complaints (cast, spirit, not like the TV show or the Dukes they grew up with, blah, blah blah) ...Someone has to be the counter voice around here....Tit for Tat You know what - the cast was chosen , the script was written, the movie was made, the movie made money - the movie is called " THE DUKES OF HAZZARD " ....And there is nothing you can do about that .... For those who wanted to buy one of the movie Generals
Capt_Redneck replied to Virgin Enos's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
It is more valuable to sell a "promotable" , whole stunt General than it is to part it out in this case. Maybe the car was not official property of WB at all during filming. But $999 for a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty? ...Go figure.. -
That is still my opinion of what to do of the constant complaining of the movie and now the DVD. That will never change. Maybe it should have been phrased better like "Leave the complaining and moaning about the same old thing at door".......Is that a better way of putting it? I'm gone Darrell

I want to apologize for being a part of this uproar on this topic. I have NOT or will NOT personally attack or call someone names. I don't do that as it is not my nature here or in real life. Like Brian posted , my remarks were meant in general , not directly at someone. I will continue to defend this movie as I am in the minority on HNet that thinks this movie was a good but different Dukes representation. I will continue to question and push people about why they don't like the movie and such. I will continue to add a bit sarcasm to my posts but that is done in good fun. I won't apologize for that. As far as boycotting this thing, it is your God given right. I have stated my opinion and so have some other people on that and won't back down from it. I can't see comparing boycotting a DVD to boycotting the King Of England ( Taxes, self-representation, etc ) and the Confederecy ( states rights, free trade, etc) as they are on totally different levels. This is more on the lines of when Coke changed their formula in the early 80's, some people loved the new coke but they changed the original ( I wonder where I heard that before) ... I'm gone Darrell

Brian I guess I am NOT going to see you in front of any store with a picket sign then..... I'm gone Darrell

I would love to ysee a'll who want to boycott the DVD in front of WalMart or Best Buy or KMart with pickets and signs "Don't Buy The Dukes DVD" " As A TRUE Dukes Fan It Was Not What We Wanted" "JackASS = American Pie DOES NOT = DOH" .... So how many of ya'll am I going to see there? .....What a joke... Personally I think boycotting something because it is not what you like or wanted is just plain assinine. If you don't like it DON"T BUY THE DAMNED DVD THEN and leave your b****in' and moaning' somehwere else.. I'm gone Darrell

I should have phrased that more like the consensus of a lot of Dukes fans on HNet instead. Never said you were correct and there is a saying I use a lot of the time "I may be wrong , BUT you ain't right" ...I know what consensus means and this site, while large in members, is only a minority of Dukes fans world wide that are not internet savy. I see you on the CGLFC site and it seems that a lot pf people over there liked the movie. Tell me what exactly you are correct on then? By the way I like your General . Nice job. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm gone Darrell

TimDuke....While I respect your opinion, I respectfully beg to differ. Your reasoning on the "if the movie were more older fan friendly and maybe not a carbon copy but at least similar to the original it would have made alot more than it did " comment . That comment is basically what I have been saying on here in my support of the movie. Older fan friendly - Burt Reynolds & Willie Nelson , more in line with Moonrunners and Smokey & The Bandit and the first 5 GA episodes ... Thank God it wasn't a carbon copy especially from season 5 and up (with the exception of "Opening Night At The Boar's Nest) Similarites - an awesome General Lee and stunts. Dukes are a moonshine family. Boss Hogg & Rosco are as mean if not meaner. I can go and on . The spirit of the DOH is there..... Like I said , I know the consenus is that most people wanted the movie to be more like the TV series. That was not my view. Who is say that it would have been better with different actors or a different director? What did ya'll want , Disney to make the movie to make it family friendly? That seems to be the downfall that everyone wanted to compare it to the TV show and were disappointed with the movie. As I have said numerous times , nothing will ever beat the original show. The goal of the movie wasn't to rehash the TV show, but to entertain a MASS audience , not a particular group like the ones who wanted a rehashed movie version of the TV show. Everyone , especially all these newbies who hopped on the bandwagon because of the movie, can go back to your pissin' nad moanin' about the movie and this and that and what would have been better. If you want to boycot or not buy the DVD, just don't get it. I'm gone Darrell

I am a TRUE Dukes fan. Watched it since it premiered back in 79 when I was 9 . Watched reruns on TNN an now CMT . Got all the DVD sets. Numerous collectibles and die casts.... I LOVED the movie. Thought it was better than expected. What exactly did true Dukes fans want? A carbon copy of the series that played like an actual episode? That seems to be the concensus.....Nothing will ever beat the original. But to me something different was just what I liked. I will buy the DVD the day it comes out in both the UNRATED and regular version (widescreen of course) .

Yes there is something wrong with promoting a site that is basically a COPY of this one, down to the same catergories.... I belong to numerous DOH sites myself. I don't promote them and if I need to post a link to one , I get the MODS permission to post it in a message since it THEIR forum. Darrell

I want to read the original screenplay...
Capt_Redneck replied to JDhoggjr's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
Who says that would have been OK to redo? Smokey & The Bandit is more of a classic than the DOH. NOBODY could ever do Sheriff Buford T. Justice as well or as funny as Jackie Cleason, NOBODY should even attempt it anyway... Who says they detroyed the DOH? It was someone's vision of the DOH on the big screen . A lot of people actually liked it very much. Darrell -
I know you were talking about your new forum..... Why say it's bigger and better than this one - which is by far the BEST website and forum on the DOH on the web. I hope this thread gets killed somehow. I am not sure I agree with promoting a different DOH forum on a DOH forum. Sort of unDukes like in my opinion. I defend this site and a lot of things on it as if it is my own. I think most everyone knows how I feel this site. Anyway good luck with it. I know where I hang my hat. Darrell

Bigger and better? What is wrong with HazzardNet - THE BEST DOH SITE ON THE WEB...... Darrell

Facts I must point out about this show!!!

The whole so-called "Chase" absolutely stinks to me. It has created artificial drama for WHAT? Ratings and extra money? .... Brian France has taken NA$CRAP to a new level. Creating and manipulating basically a whole new series than the old Winston Cup circuit. Long time fans like myself ( I have been following racin' since I was a little kid - basically the modern era ) have taken a backseat to corporate and big city America in the NEW NASCAR. As far as next years Ford Fusion or Chevy Monte Carlo or Dodge's odd looking racing Charger, the CAR OF TOMMORROW will debut sometime in late 06 or 07. No one knows for sure what the car will do other than reduce aero and be safer for the drivers. Yes , I still watch NA$CRAP and probably will. It just isn't the same for me . Darrell

SURVEY: Do You Want a Dukes Movie Sequel ?
Capt_Redneck replied to Brian Coltrane's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
I would like to see a sequel with the same cast. If they make it in the "Moonrunners/ Georgia Episodes" tone, maybe a bit grittier or edgier , I would love that even more. Take out the drug humor and some of the silliness. Make Uncl Jesse a bit more "wise" and sort of fatherly in the sequel . Show more of the "other" characters (Boss Hogg, Rosco,Cletus) to get a better feel of character developement and understanding of their motives. Maybe a bit more of the background of the Dukes would be helpful, even if it the Balladeer or a few simple lines by any one. The movie, for me at least, was good. Is was something different. It wasn't a copy and like a later Dukes episode. SWS and Johnny Knoxville did a good job as Bo & Luke ( They were wild good ol' boys) , for what they were given. Keep the cast, keep the same stunt team and stunts, a bit more character developement, NO drug humor, a bit more seriousness of Bo & Luke(maybe).....See what the writers come up with first, then decide. See who will direct, too..... Darrell -
Saw it and was totally shocked at the way it ended. I was so glad to have Walker back on for a night. It is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. The movie was good. Could have been a little better. Should have explained why Trivette was going on assignment to Quantico and where Syndney was. Missed that they didn't hang out in CD's place. I can't wait fo more Walker, Texas Ranger movies....

This is why I HATE the so-called "Chase For The Championship"......The standings are totally different. Old points system 1 -- Tony Stewart 4005 Leader 2 -- Greg Biffle 3825 -180 3 +1 Jimmie Johnson 3727 -278 4 -1 Rusty Wallace 3727 -278 5 -- Mark Martin 3589 -416 6 +1 Jeremy Mayfield 3489 -516 7 -1 Kurt Busch 3466 -539 8 +1 Ryan Newman 3400 -605 9 +1 Carl Edwards 3358 -647 10 -2 Matt Kenseth 3337 -668 11 +3 Elliott Sadler 3222 -783 12 +1 Kevin Harvick 3182 -823 13 -2 Jamie McMurray 3175 -830 14 -2 Jeff Gordon 3150 -855 15 +2 Dale Jarrett 3085 -920 16 -- Joe Nemechek 3079 -926 17 -2 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 3069 -936 18 -- Brian Vickers 3032 -973 19 +1 Kyle Busch* 3000 -1005 20 -1 Jeff Burton 2964 -1041 21 +1 Kasey Kahne 2878 -1127 22 -1 Michael Waltrip 2864 -1141 24 -- Bobby Labonte 2672 -1333 25 -- Casey Mears 2667 -1338

I don't get it either....*scratching my head in disbelief*

That was uncalled for. Timothy McVeigh was and will always be a traitor to this country. Silver Cobra was just expressing his opinion about government and their involvement into too many things. That is what America is built upon, one's self expression. It is his First Ammendment right . That in no way equates to what Timothy McVeigh did... Darrell

Mopar Collector's Guide magazine did an extensive 3 part article on the making of Duke's movie and the making of the General Lee's....It is funny Travis Bell's name is NOT mentioned once in there....... If he did help out that is great. Then maybe he should have gotten a credit about it. Darrell

Coming to DVD w/ an unrated version! Yeehaw!
Capt_Redneck replied to Dave's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
The $28.88 price is the "suggested retail price". Most if not all DVD's are usually that high on the SRP, but they usually sell for around $20 or less at most stores... WalMart , Kmart, Best Buy, etc usually sell DVD's at cost or less.I bet it will sell for around 19-20 bucks. Maybe lower when it first comes out(usually in the first week of a DVD release).. Darrell
