Question about the Generals shifter in the movie
Capt_Redneck replied to DaisyDukes's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
I like the "burgundy" steering wheel...It kind of adds a bit of color to to a tan interior.... My brother has a 73 Vette - Burnt Orange (that is the color as he calls it) with tan( it goes by a diffeent name which I don't know off hand) inteior...He has had a "burgundy" or wood steering wheel in it since he got it. I got used to it and after seeing numerous Vettes at shows and meets I love it. Gives it a bit of character.... Darrell -

I still HATE this so-called chase for the CUP( I still can't call it NE---- as it will always be Winston to me and next year it will be Sprint anyway)... This chase was put together to bring attention to racing during the football season. Most people who are not die-hard race fans would turn off racing in Oct and Nov and watch football . But now with the "playoff" it brings more "excitement" and better ratings ratings....I HATE it with a passion. Teams built up their leads and earned the Cup. I might not have liked the way Matt Kenseth won the title in 03 with 1 win adn just protecting his lead the reast of the year , but he EARNED it. He forced teams to go out and try and win and catch him.. I also don't like the fact that someone who squeeks in at 10th place over 500 points out can actually win the Cup.... NASCRAP has screwed us longtime fans royally... 1. Southern 500 - need I say more.. 2. Taking the racin' out of the Carolina's - Cup -Rockingham, North Wilkesboro and 1 race from Darlington(possibly both in a few years) Grand National - Hickory, Myrtle Beach 3. Allowing the mega car teams 4. Allowing cars to NOT look like the ones you see on the road. Also allowing thinner sheetmetal so they get banged up easier 5. Making Aerodynamics the main purpose for a ton of races..Let the drivers DRIVE the cars, make horsepower and gears and tire combos the priority again. 6. Possibly taking the Winston or All-Star race from Charlotte... 7. Where is the history and legends? Bobby Allsion, Cale Yarborough, Buddy Baker, Harry Gant, Junior Johnson, Ned Jarrett... It would be a sad day if NASCAR didn't put their Hall Of Fame in Charlotte since that is where the very first NASCAR race was held and most of the race teams are based out of . NASCAR has ripped the heart out of the Carolinas with all the races that were held there and are now gone because NASCRAP wanted to get away from the Southern/Redneck image.......They better do the right thing and put their HOF in Charlotte.. 1. Smokey & The Bandit is my all time favorite as detailed in many , many posts..... 2. Walking Tall (The orignal).. It's up there for me too. Sheriff Buford Pusser is a LEGEND. It also helps thatI did a research paper on him back in high school (got an A for it, should have been an A+ but I forgot an introduction page). The one with the Rock sucked , it wasn't even close to the original. 3. Dazed & Confused - What a great , fun movie . A day on the life of High School kids just looking for a good time on the last day of school in 1976. Awesome soundtrack, awesome cars . 4. Every Which Way But Loose - Clint Eastwood's attempt at a Good Ol' Boy movie and it works. juts remember "Right Turn Clyde" .. I'm Gone Darrell

Tomorrow was the traditional running of the Labor Day weekend classic - The Southern 500 from Darlington, SC... That was taken away from all racin' fans last year and now they race in California on Labor Day weekend. I am and will never be happy about that change. When it comes to racin' , I am old school NASCAR and don't really like none of the new changes(Chase for the Cup, Nextel as the name, dropping tracks like Darlington and Rockingham).. The Southern 500 was NASCAR's oldest super speedway stock car race and that meant it was TRADITION for over 50 years. Brian France took that away to squeeze more corporate money for ISC and NASCAR. I am sure there are fans that don't mind it. BUT this one liked that NASCAR was more of a regional/southern sport. This was the one race that was sacred to lot a of teams and drivers. It was also ther race that had the biggest party and showed racin's Southern Pride. This weekend's race is the one race I will not watch simply because it is not Darlington. It might be a great race tomorrow, but it doesn't matter to me. I have attended a few Southern 500's in my life and the atmosphere at the track was nothing but Pride . The town used to have a parade and a festival in honor of the race. Now I am not sure what goes on. NASCAR has ripped this tradition away from DArlington in favor of what, a few thousand extra seats in California and because it is near L.A. a so-called better market.... I am a huge NASCAR fan and this still burns inside of me. It always will , especially on future Labor Day weekends... I'm gone Darrell

The Balladeer was country music star Junior Brown. Junior has had hit songs "Highway Patrol" and "My Wife Thinks You're Dead" back in the mid 90's. "My Wife Thinks You're Dead" was playing in the background in the scene where Boss Hogg was boiling up some crawdads in the Boar's Nest. Junior is also very famous for his unique guit-steel guitar he built. It is a cross between an electric and steel guitar.... I'm gone Darrell

1.Oak Ridge Boys - Twice I think... 2.Mel Tillis 3.Loretta Lynn 4.Waylon Jennings.... I know I forgot some ..

Divia - Exactly . They have to milk it for every last penny. And if there is money to be made in a sequel then the studios will make one. But I am pretty sure as I read somewhere that the actors in the movie are contracted for a second one if certain money goals were met. I am not sure of the actual wording or if there is an actual contract like that, just going going by what I read somewhere ( remember not everything you read on the 'net is true ) . We shall see what the future holds for another Dukes movie... I'm gone Darrell

Look at all the DVD season releases we got this year, all the press and especially the show back on CMT in a great family timeslot. Plus the specials on the orignal Dukes on CMT- Insider Special amd Inside Fame)both great shows on the original)... Maybe we wouldn't have gotten so much, maybe we would. The movie certainly helped . The Movie out on DVD by Dec 13?
Capt_Redneck replied to dukesran1's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
It is reported on a few sites of that date Dec 13... DVD talk has a thread in their forums on the release, but nowhere in their release or coming soon section . -
Not at all... I love everyone's opinion on the movie both good and bad. Just that this wasn't a clone of the TV show that some people wanted and I am glad it wasn't. A change of pace and something different to keep the Dukes in the spotlight.. By the way, nothing will ever compare to the orignal anyway.. I'm gone Darrell

BS , it did not degrade the show one bit.... I wish ya'll would stop with that stuff. The movie was more than enjoyable and fun. I am an old school fan too and LOVED the movie. I grew up watching it since I was kid every Friday night.

Couldn't have stunk that bad to see it THREE times.... As far as the General's doors opening, I have to disagree with your views. I loved the fact that it was explained and he had the birth of the beloved Generla Lee that we all love . Hopefully in the DVD they will show the complete scene of Cooter and his boys fixin' it up. It was a race car for a once a year rally in the movie and a vehicle to haul moonshine everyday too don't forget. I LOVED the movie and am damn glad it wasn't a carbon copy of the TV series, except for maybe the Georgia episodes. Yes I grew up watching the Dukes every Friday night too back in the day. I , for one, never wanted this movie to be a copy of the TV series, if they did that they would have had just another renuion show. I understand everyone has their own views on what the movie should have been like and what the characters should have been portrayed as but I still think this movie captured the Spirit of the show and it's inspirations - Moonrunners , Smokey & The Bandit & DOH( the 5 GA episodes) . Funny thing that I haven't been this crazy for a movie since Dazed & Confused. I guess every 10 years or so I am due for one. I'm gone Darrell

This is a good article on TV shows to movie . And of course it has a Dukes mention as successful.... http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/story/340804p-290981c.html Will nostalgia trips end? BY JOE NEUMAIER Sunday, August 28th, 2005 It's hard to imagine now, but when television first came to prominence, Hollywood viewed it as competition for movies. How times change. Now, films made from TV shows are commonplace. But as this summer has shown, what works on the small screen doesn't always work at the multiplex: "The Honeymooners" and "Bewitched" both bombed, with the latter causing critics and audiences alike to wonder what exactly Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell were doing in a remake of a musty '60s sitcom. Only "The Dukes of Hazzard" proved to be a success, updating it's '80s good-ol'-boy humor for a new audience. This fall will see "Serenity" (the cinematic leap of the failed TV series "Firefly"), and next year will bring "Miami Vice," starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Also in the works: "Get Smart," starring "40 Year-Old Virgin" Steve Carell, and "I Dream of Jeannie" with Jessica Alba in the running for the title role. While the trend can be traced back to successful transitions like "Dragnet" (1987), "The Untouchables" (1987) and "The Fugitive" (1993), a flop like "Bewitched" showed the danger of overestimating audience affection for old titles. For every "Mission: Impossible" and "Charlie's Angels," there's a "Wild Wild West" or "The Mod Squad." "A lot of these shows are badly dated, and though they may have worked in the 1960s or '70s, when they're updated they just seem irrelevant," says Bruce Fretts, senior correspondent for TV Guide. "The thing that seems charming today isn't the plot or the jokes, but the time-capsule quality. "Plus, people are used to seeing these shows on the small screen. You have to have something really special to justify transplanting them to the movies." "Movies and television shows are two completely different species," says Frank Spotnitz, an executive producer and writer on "The X-Files" (both the show and the 1998 movie), whose fall show, "The Night Stalker," is an update of a cult early '70s program. "But to movie studios, it's a huge help to have a title everyone knows, to cut through the clutter of the marketplace. "Yet I think nostalgia of any kind is a double-edged sword," adds Spotnitz. "When people see a TV show title from their youth, they're looking for a piece of that old experience to come back, and the truth is, they'll never recapture it." One rule of thumb ought to be to avoid sitcoms. While one-hour dramas like "Starsky & Hutch" can even be movie-fied as a comedy (thanks to Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson), half-hour shows are often deadly, a rule previously established by the movies "Leave It to Beaver," "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "My Favorite Martian." "Sitcoms, which are based on character relationships, build a rapport with audiences over many seasons in a way that movies just can't do," says Tim Brooks, author of "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows." "Plus, so much of our television history is on display every night; old sitcoms are never really gone. DVDs of TV shows are now common, and networks like Nick at Nite and TV Land keep old shows alive. "That's a major sea change in American entertainment. Everything is so accessible that nostalgia never has a chance to actually become nostalgia." But hopefully, in a few years, an end could be in sight: Though a "Sex and the City" film was ready to roll until co-star Kim Cattrall backed out, most hit sitcoms from the '90s - like "Seinfeld," "Friends," and "The Drew Carey Show" - couldn't be movie-fied. Yet TV Guide's Fretts says "never say never." "I'm sure if you told someone in the 1950s that someday they'd make a 'Honeymooners' movie with someone besides Jackie Gleason, they'd have been shocked. Flash-forward to 2015, and we could be talking about someone else playing Ray Barone in an 'Everybody Loves Raymond' movie. "It could happen."
