The Best Quality DVD Release of the Series?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I've been after a DVD set of the show, but I'd like to know if any of y'all have made picture quality comparisons between all the ones available?

Far as I know, there's the "Original Set" with the Confederate Flag, and then two repackaged releases (Standard DVD cases and a newer with two fat cases containing all discs), released in the U.S. Now, in the U.K., there were the individual DVD seasons and a complete boxset (repackage of the individual seasons).

There might be more in the world, although the best ones are likely the U.S. due to being in NTSC format and running at the correct framerate.

P.S. Yes, Amazon does have the series beautifully remastered in HD, but there's a problem: The show has been cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio and the intended aspect ratio is 4:3 AR.

Thanks.

I don't know which one is the best but I seen a new box set at Walmart this morning. Redesigned outer cardboard box with two more boxes containing the discs. Had Bo, Daisy and Luke on the front from original Season 3 DVD release photos. The General Lee was photoshopped behind them but barely visible. I guess if that's what it takes to keep the series for sale in stores so new generations can enjoy it then so be it.

I've only had one set. Waiting for each season to come out was as exciting as late Friday afternoon and waiting until 8:00 from 1979-1985. One of the secrets to happiness is having something to look forward to.

I  wonder if these are the originals, with original art work or if they're " Sanitized",  so as to be politically correct?

It was the new box set that only takes up about 3 of the original Season release DVD sets on a shelf, and yes 'sanitized' with no confederate flag artwork.

A little late to this but I really wish streaming services would stop trying to morph a 4:3 image to fill a 16:9 tv

I watch the most recent set. No confederate flag it's just orange with a 01 on the first pace of season 1-4 and an 02 on the set with seasons 5-6. I gotta say I watch it on my PS5 and I just recently turned on "game mode" and turned off "noise reduction" on my tv and i gotta say it has made a HUGE difference. I could actually make out the individual likes of smoke coming out of the general when he's chasing cooter. Where the noise reduction and game mode being off unnaturally smoothed the image
