Here's the Gen 7 Cup cars

https://www.jayski.com/2021/05/05/manufacturers-unveil-nascar-next-gen-cars/

Unfortunately with this there will ultimately be layoffs following the final race of this season as teams will not need chassis or body fabricators as well as other jobs that will now be handled suppliers https://m.nascar.com/news-media/2021/05/05/vendors-parts-suppliers-list-next-gen-car/

Wonder how long it will be before they move to a single engine manufacturer like they did in the truck series.

Martin Truex jr dominated the Goodyear 400 at Darlington winning both Stages and the race and led the most laps. Only Kyle Larson gave him a challenge for the lead late in the race but the #5 wasn't handling like Kyle Larson would have liked. There were a couple of scary crashes into the inside wall but all three drivers walked away, a testament to the safer barrier and crumple zones built into the car chassis. William Byron extends his top 10 finishes to 10 in a row and that consistency put him #3 in points standings, he is also the only driver with that many top tens this season.

Top 10

1 Martin Truex jr

2 Kyle Larson

3 Kyle Busch

4 William Byron

5 Denny Hamlin

6 Kevin Harvick

7 Chase Elliot

8 Ryan Blaney

9 Chris Buescher

10 Ryan Newman

On a related note Romain Grosjean finished 10th in his Indycar debut at Barber. He was in the top 5 for quite a while. Jimmy Johnson didn't fare as well he finished 19th.

I see that Romain Grosjean took his first IndyCar pole at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis this weekend and ended up finishing second. He's due to make a one-off return to F1 with a demonstration run at the French Grand Prix next month.

I figured out of the "rookie" Indycar class this year Romain would be the one that would acclimate the best. I would not be surprised to see him win at least once before the season is over.

At Dover it was a Hendrick Motorsports smackdown. Kyle Larson dominated winning both the stages however it was his teammate Alex Bowman in the 48 who would lead the team to a 1,2,3,4 finish.

Top 10

1 Alex Bowman

2 Kyle Larson

3 Chase Elliot

4 William Byron

5 Joey Logano

6 Kevin Harvick

7 Denny Hamlin

8 Tyler Reddick

9 Daniel Suarez

10 Cole Custer

Rumor has it that Rough Fenway Racing has offered Brad Keselowski a minority stake in RFR if he decides to leave Penske racing at the end of the season https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2021/05/18/report-brad-keselowski-offered-driver-owner-role-at-roush-fenway-racing/

Well it appears this is a rumor no more as Bob Pockrass is stating it's a done deal. Either Joey Logano or Matt Dibenedetto will move to the #2 or Austin Cindric will be moved up to Cup to drive the #2 in 2022.

With the COTA race called because of rain Hendrick motorsports has now tied Petty Enterprises in 268 Cup series wins. Chase Elliott also gave Chevrolet it's 800th cup series win. Austin Cindric surprised everyone leading the first 5 laps on slicks and maintaining an 8+ second lead before pitting for rain tires. Stage two begun with a several accidents, the biggest when Cole Custer ran into the back of Martin Truex jr who was slow because of hitting Michael McDowell. They red flagged the race for a while to clean the debris and blow off some of the puddles on the track and to allow teams to Rain X the windshields and back windows. They race restarted on lap 29 and stayed green till lap 54 when it was red flagged for heavy rain. This race ended William Byron's consecutive top 10 streak at 11 races.

Hendrick Motorsports once again was the dominant team and won three in a row and now holds the most wins by a team. Kyle Larson dominated the race winning all 3 stages and the race. His Hendrick Motorsports teammates finished in the top 5 as well almost repeating the top 4 sweep from Dover if not for Kyle Busch. Richard Childress Racing had a good night with both cars finishing in the top 10.

2. Chase Elliot

3 Kyle Busch

4 William Byron

5 Alex Bowman

6 Austin Dillon

7 Denny Hamlin

8 Chris Buescher

10 Kevin Harvick

Rumor has it that Kurt Busch might be moving to 23xi Racing next year in the 2nd car team they hope to start. Will keep you updated.

I was hoping Chase would pull this off but second isn't bad. I only saw the last half hour of the race.

He should have a pretty good shot at Sonoma this weekend.

Check the replays to watch the James Davison slide from contact from the 00, that Aussie can wheel a car. Too bad he's stuck in such a lousy car.

Kyle Larson put on another dominating performance at Sonoma winning both Stages and the race. This was also the 4th in a row 1-2 finish for Hendrick Motorsports which ties a record that has stood since the late 1950's. Like in the F1 race in Azberbaijan tires were an issue with some teams in Sonoma with some tires delaminating with just 15-20 laps on them. CGR had a good finish with both cars finishing in the top 10 for a second time this season.

Top 10

1 Kyle Larson

2 Chase Elliot

3 Martin Truex jr

4 Joey Logano

5 Kyle Busch

6 Kurt Busch

I think it would be fair to say that Lance Stroll and Max Verstappen each suffered a horrendous crash in Baku. Rear tire punctures caused them to crash on the straight at around 180 and 200 mph respectively. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton's mistake at the late restart ended his 54-race streak of top-10 finishes.

That was definitely a strange F1 race.

This Saturday night at 8pm est on CBS stations the Camping World SRX series makes it's debut race at Stafford. Also on certain CBS stations Saturday afternoon will be highlights of the World of Outlaws race at the Bristol Dirt, check your local listings. It will be interesting to see if the SRX series comes close in TV ratings to Nascar's races this season.

Kyle Larson won his 3rd consecutive race last night at the All Star Race in Texas. This is his second All Star Race win. Hendrick Motorsports 4 cars all finished in the top 10 as did Penske's 3 cars.

Top 10

1 Kyle Larson

2 Brad Keselowski

3 Chase Elliot

4 Joey Logano

5 Ryan Blaney

6 Alex Bowman

7 William Byron

8 Aric Almirola

9 Kyle Busch

10 Kurt Busch

Now onto the latest rumors...

Jeff Gordon might be leaving the broadcast booth for a bigger role at Hendrick Motorsports.

Kurt Busch seems to be a hot commodity in the silly season. Both 23XI Racing and Track house racing have contacted him to drive a second car next season. Kurt says he will wait to hear from Chip Ganassi first before beginning talks with another team.

Brad Keselowski and Roger Penske are keeping mum on Brad's plans for next year. Though if I was a betting man I'd say Brad is going to move to RFR for 2022.
