I've just seen the sad news that 1950s racing legend Sir Stirling Moss has passed away at the age of 90. He still competed in historic racing events until he was 81, but has suffered from health problems far the last couple of years. There's an obituary here.

Below is a documentary from a few years ago where Sir Patrick Stewart got to meet his racing hero. It's well worth a watch, especially for those of you less familiar with European motorsport.

:previous:

I last saw the documentary above a few years ago, and I've just had a chance to re-watch it. Here are a couple of quotes to show the highs and lows:

On his accidents: "He's lost teeth, broken his shoulder, both legs, his back, his skull and has been in a coma for 38 days thanks to motor racing."

After getting married: "The Mosses are honeymooning in Holland, but only for four days - Stirling has to be back in London to judge the Miss World contest."

It must've been quite a life!

Kyle Larson got fired for the N word during a mic check for an Iracing race https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/04/14/kyle-larson-fired-chip-ganassi-racing/ Seriously. I think this was blown way out of proportion especially considering probably 90% of the rap songs have that word in them. Of course he shouldn't have said it in the first place but to basically lose everything because of it is utter nonsense but then again this is the P.C. era where everything is offensive.

Interesting... https://sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/ron-desantis-florida-gov-nascar-races-coronavirus-pandemic-235333044.html With Nascar tracks laying off and furloughing employees yesterday I wonder how feasible it would be for Nascar to at least get the Homestead race in. Since Virginia will be on lockdown till June 10th they could use Martinsville's date.

Jeff Gordon is getting back behind the wheel today, albeit a virtual cockpit, he'll be racing in today's virtual Talladega race so check your local TV listings. I think it starts around noon or 1pm.

I watched a little of that last time it was on. It was pretty fun but didn't hold my attention for more than a half hour.

I get a kick out of Clint Bowyer, he is so funny, the comments he makes while virtual racing are hilarious. Sunday he was leading and blew his motor  .

Matt Kenseth is coming out of retirement for a second time, this time to drive the #42 CGR Chevy https://www.yahoo.com/news/matt-kenseth-back-nascar-larson-153727129.html . Wow who'd of thunk Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch would be teammates again 15 years later.

Sometimes ya just never know what curve balls the future can throw at you!

You can blow a virtual motor?....now that's funny!

They don't call it sim racing for nothing. You can run out of fuel, blow a worn tire blow the motor etc...

Looks like real Nascar racing will start back up May 17th https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/04/28/roy-cooper-nascars-may-schedule-evolving-nc-approves-coke-600-race/ though Nascar hasn't officially confirmed anything but supposedly they sent teams and tracks a revised race schedule.

Racing is returning May 17th https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/04/30/nascar-return-darlington-raceway-cup-series/ . Hopefully this works out well so we can see some more racing this year.

Thanks for posting this. I bet the numbers in tv viewing will be through the roof. People are so desperate for LIVE competition of any kind.

At least it starts with Darlington and not one of the more boring 1.5 milers so the racing should be exciting. What will be interesting is there will be no practice sessions or qualifying, first laps run will be racing laps.

I think this is why they're talking about even televising the Moonshine 500! :lol:

At reunions my family does the Buttermilk 5.00. Each participant drinks a quart of buttermilk and runs around the barn 5 times. If nobody makes it without getting sick the person who made it the furthest is declared the winner.

Would that increase the chance of accidents?

Yeah I wouldn't be shocked if there was a caution within the first 5 laps.

Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman both got waivers to compete for the chase this year if Nascar can get a full schedule in.

Nascar is returning to North Wilkesboro though it will be a virtual track not the real one. Here's the participants https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/05/06/jeff-gordon-dale-jr-bobby-labonte-william-byron-north-wilkesboro-nascar-iracing-entry-lists/ it will air on Fox and FS1 Saturday at 3pm eastern.

Here's NASCAR's covid guidelines and penalties for failure to comply during any of the races. https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/05/06/nascar-reveals-fines-for-failure-to-comply-with-covid-19-guidelines/
