Roth Potter
I don't really enjoy oval racing, nor Sonoma and always forget when Watkins Glen is on... However someone mentioned to me this weekend there is a Roval race, which I never heard of... Since 2 years or so you can now watch NASCAR Cup Series over here. So I watched it. I must say, it was very long... But enjoyable. I love how they lug these cars around the infield and chicanes. If there's more of this I'll try to tune in again. And if I ever not forget when Watkins Glen is on...

Roth Potter
Yessir! An oval combined with some technical sections like a street course part.
RogerDuke
Thanks Roth. I guess I'm just not a big enough race fan to have known that. I'm more of a dirt bike fan myself...especially Endurocross.
Roth Potter
I wouldn't have really know either if someone didn't tell me. I thought it meant it was a flat oval at first. So I take it your favorite episodes are the ones where Bo or Jeb Stuart are on the dirtbikes?

I'm not sure I'd say they are my favorites but I love dirt bikes enough that I made a list of all the episodes that features them.....Road Pirates.....Along Came a Duke (with Jeb)....The Fugitive (lots of all kinds of motorcycles on this one)....A Boy's Best Friend....Coy vs Vance.....Twin Trouble has 3-wheelers. I remember when they first came out. Eventually they were determined to be too dangerous so 4-wheelers took over but I never warmed up to either. Dirt bikes can go so many more places since they're skinnier and can fit between trees and other obstacles better....and they're lighter in general. RogerDuke
Back on subject here....I see my favorite....Chase Elliott won at Dover in overtime on Sunday. This means he has an automatic berth into the next round. His victory was partly the result of two wrecks at the end. Roth Potter
Spike
As was rumored Leavine Family Racing is switching to Toyota and will get tech support from Joe Gibbs Racing, basically the same deal Furniture Row Racing had with JGR. And the new driver is Matt Dibenedetto https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2018/10/10/leavine-family-racing-signs-matt-dibenedetto-joins-toyota-for-2019/ While we're on he subject of the #95, Kasey Kahne is not going to finish out his final season due to health reasons https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2018/10/09/kasey-kahnes-nascar-driving-career-is-over/

HossC
I'm just going to briefly hijack this thread to say "congratulations" to Lewis Hamilton who has just won his fifth F1 World Championship, and also to Max Verstappen for winning today's race. Lewis has now equalled Juan Manuel Fangio's number of wins, with only Michael Schumacher still ahead with seven. The presenters have just interviewed one of Lewis' friends about the achievement - some American guy called Jeff Gordon, who watched the race from the Mercedes pit. Spike
That was a good F1 race yesterday was hoping Vettel would win and keep the points battle going. Also wish they still had the screaming v8's and v10's of years past instead of those anemic sounding v6's. Hendrick Motorsports finally announced who would be taking over main sponsorship of Jimmie Johnson's #48 and it's Ally Financial https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2018/10/28/hendrick-motorsports-reveals-jimmie-johnsons-sponsor-for-2019-20/ an interesting little bit of info is Ally used to be GMAC which sponsored several Hendrick cars over the years. RogerDuke
Jeff has a big smile. I wonder if Lewis just told him that he can take the car for a spin.
HossC
Jeff Gordon got to try out Juan Pablo Montoya's F1 car about 15 years ago (below). Nowadays, they have much stricter rules on testing, and each car only has three engines to last the whole season, so even reserve/test drivers get very little time behind the wheel of a current F1 car. Believe it or not, Lewis Hamilton had to get permission from his team to do a couple of doughnuts after Sunday's race because his engine/gearbox have to last for two more races. Spike
Finally made the rumors official: Martin Truex Jr & Cole Pearn to move to the #19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota for 2019 https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2018/11/07/martin-truex-jr-cole-pearn-move-to-joe-gibbs-racing-for-2019/. Really unfortunate the dirty way that Joe Gibbs got them by basically overcharging Barney Visser right out of competition just to get MTjr and Cole Pearn. In other Nascar news: Nascar penalized several teams after Texas. Most notably Kevin Harvick's win is now encumbered after his car failed post race inspection https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2018/11/07/nascar-penalty-to-kevin-harvick-team-means-he-not-locked-into-title-race/ they were docked 40 driver and owner points. If a car passed pre race inspection how did it fail post race inspection. This makes no sense to me but we are talking about nascar here and what they've done over the past decade makes little sense anyways. Kevin Harvick is still 4th in points so he'll likely makes it into the championship Miami race unless he has a bad Phoenix race or one of the drivers 5th-8th in points wins. Ryan Blaney and Erik Jones also received penalty's https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2018/11/07/nascar-penalizes-ryan-blaney-erik-jones-for-texas-infractions/

It was a nice surprise to hear (now Sir) Jackie Stewart commentating. For those who don't know, Sir Jackie was one of the key people who improved safety in F1, and motorsport generally, way back in the very dangerous '60s and '70s. The three-time F1 World Champion is still a regular at F1 races at 79 years old.
