A Day in the Life of a Duke

[DaisyMaeDuke]

Somethin aint right *thinks to himself* It's too quiet...

[BoJamesDuke]

*bites his lip a little, looking up to where he thought he saw movement*

[RogerDuke]

*Jesse quietly steps out of the cave squinting his eyes from the sun poking through the leaves. He listened closely for any suspicious noises and took a deep breath of clean fresh air*

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*shades his eyes a little, trying to see better, waving a way a fly that teasingly landed on his nose*

[RogerDuke]

*through an opening between the briar bushes and small Sassafras trees Jesse sees movement. At first he makes a motion back toward the cave but then stops in his tracks and mutters under his breath "Luke???" He turns around and tries to get a better look. Squinting his eyes, he realizes he is right.*

"Psst Psst Luke, Luke, over here"

Bo glanced up as he heard the hiss, wondering at first if it was a snake or something until it said Luke. Biting his lip, he glanced up at his older cousin.

[RogerDuke]

*Unable to see Bo, Jesse realized he shouldn't distract Luke too much in case there was still danger near so he waited for Luke to make the next move*

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*hears the hiss* Jesse? *whispers* You ok?

[RogerDuke]

*whispers*

"Ferget about me. What about you? I heard a lot of shooting. And where's Bo?"

*Hears a car start up through the woods. The car then revs and then speeds off. Even though the Dukes can't see it, Jesse knew who it was by the sound of the engine*

Jesse (no longer whispering) "That there was them Lefty and Carl fellers in that souped up Ford Maverick"

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*makes his way quickly to the cave* We're fine...just worried about you!

[RogerDuke]

*sees Bo coming toward him*

"Well I'm madder than a hornet and I was perty worried about you boys but as long as we're rid of dem varmits that's all that matters. Now let's head back to the farm and see if we can sort this mess out"

*steps over a log and heads for the main trail back toward the road*

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*nods a little still feeling uneasy...like that, for a reason he didn't understand, the day was not yet finished*

[RogerDuke]

*all 3 go back to the farm and are standing outside of the house near the wood pile*

Jesse "Well maybe we'd better figure out how to get to the bottom of this."

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*fingers a log thoughtfully* Well one thing's fer sure...somethin' must be surefire important to shoot at someone like that...

[RogerDuke]

Jesse "Well, I reckon there's one way to get started"

*starts walking inside and as he opens the sceen door, he briefly looks over at the boys*

"I got their license plate number"

*screen door slams behind him*

[BoJamesDuke]

*watches him go inside, shaking his head in disbelief before looking to Luke*

I know where the heck you get the uncanny ability to catch a liscence plate number from miles away now...

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*shaking his head in disbelief too* He wasn't even wearin' his glasses...c'mon... *puts a hand on Bo's shoulder urging him to go in, following him in as well*

[BoJamesDuke]

*still however hadn't forgotten the way Luke had been blaiming him for a lot and shrugged off the hand his shoulder. While it didn't usually take Bo too long to calm down from an argument, when Luke said something that insulted him...or more rather hurt him...it took him a might longer. Without the hand on his shoulder, he continued inside*

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*stops as Bo shrugged his hand off, it taking every ounce of control he had to keep his temper under control; he walked in slowly, steering clear of Bo and goin instead to the kitchen to grab a beer from the fridge*

[RogerDuke]

*sits at kitchen table and writes down the license plate number that he remembered from his first encounter with Carl and Lefty*

Jesse *at the same time he's writing* "Bo, do you remember the time you told me that you disguised your voice to sound like Rosco?"

[BoJamesDuke]

*looks over from the lounge, chuckling with a nod*

"Course I do...though which time I told ya about I don't know....Luke makes me use it a lot."

[DaisyMaeDuke]

*though normally that would be an open invitation to remark about it being the one talent he had, or some other banter like that, Luke doesn't say a word; simply glowers at Bo from the corner of the kitchen*

[RogerDuke]

*hands Bo the paper*

Jesse "Ya reckon ya can git ahold of the Capitol City Police and run this number by 'em Sheriff?"

[BoJamesDuke]

*looks to the paper, grinning his famous 'Its like being a schoolboy allowed to pull a sneaky trick' grin and nodding, answering back in his best Rosco imitation.

"I'll get it, i'll get it... Khew khew..."

*chuckling, he headed off to the phone, leaving Jesse and Luke in the kitchen*

*just watches him go shaking his head how he could be moodier than a wet hen one minute and grinning like a chesire cat the next*
