  1. Well, BoJames, maybe we can get some of those old writers back! Especially some of the really old geezers like myself, Brian, Mufn, Alex, Val, pendragon, even Daney... It's been probably a good four or five years since any of the RRs we participated in were the fresh story going on the forums here. LOL. i1976 - you raise a very good question. (We don't kill anybody for questions. LOL). I see no reason why an RR can't be done with just the original cannon charactes from the show. Lemme think about how to address that issue (either by an adjustment of the rules or perhaps a seperate forum).
  2. It's the willingness to learn and grow, or rather the lack thereof, that seems to be the bigger issue. The particular RR you're referring to Daney was one that the partcipants all seemed to "get it." Yes, there were one line posts in that and I've said already that one line posts are not necessarily wrong. It's when it's CONSISTENTLY one line after one line after one line and there's little to no story developement, plot development or character development that we're having the issue with. That previous RR you're talking about, everyone who participated either was willing to learn, or was willing to teach. That's rare nowadays. I don't know how many times in various fanfiction circles I've seen people who write stories and when someone offers them constructive critique the writer immediately goes for the throat. They threaten to remove their stories or stop participating. They're super hyper sensitive to any critism and apparently have no desire to learn. For you biblical people out there, shall I cite Proverb 12:1? "Whoever loves instruction, loves knowledge. But he who hates correction is stupid." Therefore, anyone who gets in a huff when someone tries to kindly take them to point about something with their writing and isn't willing to listen or ponder the issue, and they yell and scream that they're gonna just leave and not finish their story...well I say good riddence! So long! Bye! Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!! And one more thing, tv and movie scripts are not written to be read. Scripts are instructions for filming. They include dialogue, yes, but also scene settings, camera angles and whatnot. How many of us actually read a tv or film script for recreational reading? I don't. I've never liked when someone does a fanfic and does it in "script" format. It's annoying to read "camera cuts to shot of General Lee, driving down the road. Camera cuts to Bo behind the wheel. Camera cuts to Luke in the passenger seat. Camera cuts to..." Ugh. Um, seriously? No. Apparently, HNet staff has been away from this place too long that our sense of humor is no longer appreciated.
  3. Yes it is. Infact the first three chapters are now posted at my site. http://www.dukesofhazzardfanfic.com/LisaFanfiction/index.htm Check it out!
  4. Doh! I'm up to four now?!

  5. And that folks is a fine example of why we need to say no to one liners.... Here's another... I tried sniffing Coke once, but the ice cubes got stuck in my nose. Say NO to one liners...
  6. Two dee-merits?! Aw geez, I wondered what the lil' frowny face on my file was for. So the dee-merits look like this...

    :( :(

I see you gave Alex a dee-merit too. Heh! Is that because his hair is too long? Khee!

  7. Done. I've made this the Official HNet Birthday Thread!
  8. Um....ahh....I think my head hurts.... LOL I think you're gonna have to try to explain to me again exactly what you're talkin' about dukefan. LOL. Do you mean like, you have a pic in an album on your profile and somebody comments on it and you wanna respond to their comment? You do just exactly what you did (post a comment). As for messaging....you mean the visitor messages? If you get a message from someone and you want to reply to them, you should click on their name, which will take you to their profile and you can leave them a visitor message in return. Does that make sense??
  9. Agreed. I should clarify as well that I'm no expert on writing either, but I've been around the internet long enough, I've been writing long enough and I've seen enough of other fandoms and sites to know what works and what doesn't. An additional note, I've amended the Story Ideas/Fics in Progress section to also say Collaborative Efforts. As I'm sure y'all can tell I've been cleaning out the RR section here and moving fics over to the Collaborative Efforts section. Just so y'all know, the redirects will be good for a month and then will fall off. I also want to add that I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this so far and that things have remained constructive and civil. LOL. Thank ya.
  10. Happy Birthday DaisyMae!! :D

  11. Your "Wanted" story really should be in the Fics in Progress section, if you're not allowing anyone else to post to it. Sorry. LOL. I probably shouldn't make an exception as I've allowed exceptions all this time and this is why we're in the mess we're in! I'm going to move the thread and leave a temporary redirect. Meantime, to add to what Mufn said, yes our forums program has a lot of tools that we can use to exercise our rights as citizens and vote. LOL. There's the Rate Thread feature, there's also the reputation feature. If really feel that somebody's post to a story was inconsistent with the story line or totally offbase, (or you think it was brilliant!) you can approve or disapprove with the post and also comment on it. At the top of each person's post, on the right hand side, there's the number of the post and then there's a little scale of justice next to that. Click on that and drop down box will show. Simply click either you approve or disapprove and you can type a comment (optional). The reputation thing is what causes the black/green/red boxes that some people have. You can imagine the red boxes are not good. LOL Also, again like Mufn said, don't be afraid to tell us admins what's going on or if you're not happy with something. If we don't know, we assume everything's hunky dory and then when we find out it's not it could be too late. We don't want that. We wanna keep HNet an enjoyable place for y'all and there's no reason that a few bad apples should be ruinin' if for everyone else.
  12. I dunno what happend dukefan but it's showing now!
  13. Done. I've left a redirect in the RR section that will expire after a month. And folks, it's very easy for me to move threads around if I have to. Don't be afraid to ask!
  14. No, that rule can't be removed. LOL. See, we created the Story Ideas/Fics in Progress section for folks who want to collaberate with each other and write a story and don't want to be interrupted by someone else. See...says it right in the description of the forum... Post your fan fic story ideas here. Someone might just pick up on one and turn it into a full fledged story. Or give us all a preview of what you're working on, whether it's a solo story or a collabrative effort (colabs in this category are not open to all to post, as they are in an RR, so chose your forum carefully!) Therefore if you and DaisyMae are working on something, you're not doing a Round Robin. You're doing a collaborative effort together. Y'all should be posting your work in progress in the Story Ideas/Fics in Progress section. Now, maybe I need to reword the description of this forum and make it more specific, or perhaps alter the title a little? The rules for Fics in Progress forum I think are pretty clear tho'... 1. Stories posted under this category are NOT open for just anyone to post to. The author has to do one of two things. They either have to.... A. Put a specific request in their post saying they are looking for suggestions or help with a story, and whether or not they want folks to respond privately (ie, email, private messages) or if the author wants to open it up for folks to post to the thread, keeping in mind that said author is free to request that any inappropriate posts deleted from the thread. Or... B. Author has asked another author to co-write a story, thus they take turns posting back and forth. If you have not been asked to post, either privately or by public announcement from the author here under this category, then please don't post! So I totally dig what you're saying, Bo, but that being the case it goes in the other forum.
  15. Miss is fine. Khee! I'm doin' fine, how are you?

  16. Garrett you would never bore me to death! LOL Always enjoy talkin' to ya. :D

  17. The rule you're referring to dukefan is the one that says.... 3. Please don't post your greivances about a particular RR (whatever the grievence may be) within the story thread of that particular RR. It's really distractin' to the story. ect...ect... In otherwords, if there's a particular story thread and somebody posts a complaint in that thread, that's a no-no. But a general complaint such as what Chet's talking about, there's no rule that says nobody is allowed to complain. For the record, yes, Chet asked me about posting his petition and I gave him the okay. There's been grumblings and frustrations about the RR section for the past couple of years. I'm allowing this dicussion because I think it's long overdue. Not just the one liner complaint but also the general condition and quality of RR stories. The RR rules are always subject to update and revisions. Maybe they're too vague and if they are, I need to know that and need to work to make them better. I can't do that unless I get feedback from people. I think some people have kept quiet or have only complained amongst themselves but have not said anything to me. Occasionally I've heard a grumble or two. However, I only know what I know and what I know sometimes is very little. Now I got a PM from somebody asking about one liners that I'm gonna answer here... One line posts are not "illegal." Of course, there will be times when a one line post will be all there is. But when somebody writes something like this.... Luke Duke stood outside the farm house next to the General Lee waiting for his cousin. ....and that's all they write...well then what the hell is that?? And then the next post is this... Bo Duke came out of the house and walked to the General. I'm sorry, but you have completely and totally lost me as a reader. I'm bored to friggin' tears here. Instead, how about writing something like this... Luke Duke stood outside the farm house next to the General Lee waiting for his cousin. They had a mile long list of supplies to get for Uncle Jesse and Cooter had called that morning to say that the new cam shaft for the General had finally come in. Luke was anxious to get going. "C'mon, Bo! Let's get going!" (cue Bo) Yah? With me? Okay...so then the next person, posting as Bo could say.... Bo Duke hurried out onto the porch and pushed open the old wooden screen door. "Comin' Luke!" The blonde Duke boy jogged to the General and hopped easily up onto the driver's side door, sliding his long legs in through the window and landing in the seat. The General roared to life and the orange stock car tore out of the yard, sending chickens scattering away. "I didn't think Cooter was ever gonna call about that cam shaft," Bo said. (cue Luke) Now, at this point we're gonna have a scene between the two characters that has dialoge and it's back and forth. Okay, there may be some one liner posts here BUT there's no reason why, the two writers writing for Bo and Luke couldn't write a scene together and then post it as one post. They could write in email, IM whatever. Infact, Luke could post something like this, since it's his turn... (Bo and I are working on a joint post. Y'all stand by!) That then still holds Luke cue and lets the readers know at least that Luke's been cued. (And should keep other writers at bay until such time that somebody posts a "cue anyone" cue. See rule #1). Once the joint post is done, Luke can then go back and edit his "y'all stand by" post, add the additional scene and then cue whoever he wants to cue next. Like Cooter or open it to anyone, whatever. Several of the older RR's used to do this a lot. Authors would get together on IM and write out their scene and then post it as a joint post. It wasn't unusual for three authors or more to work together on one post. The one line issue is simply one of many issues that have been brought up over the past couple of years. I have had a difficult time addressing the issues with some people directly. They just don't seem to get it. What rules we have for the RRs have been broken so many times over I'm surprised that anybody now even refers back to them, especially when somebody brings up a complaint. It's funny really. However, we do have rules. Since my attempts at individual enforcement of the rules hasn't worked, perhaps it's time to air everything out in the open and in public. Maybe we need to update the rules. Maybe we need to create new forum sections or something. Maybe I need to move stories from one section to another. Maybe I should shut the whole thing down. I dunno. I need to hear from y'all to figure out what to do. Respectfully submitted, MaryAnne
  18. ROFL. Well, He Who Shall Not Be Named had spun out or wrecked or crashed or something and he was getting out of his car as the EMS person was coming up to make sure he was okay. Went to help He Who Shall Not Be Named get out of the car and got shoved away by him. And I mean shoved. And I was like "What the hell?" I mean, the EMS people are there to make sure these drivers are okay after they wreck and all and I just thought it was extremely rude and stupid of him to take his frustrations out on the poor EMS guy. I understand he was probably mad because he wrecked and all but...sheesh!

So I've disliked him ever since. LOL. His attitude is horrible anyway and I don't care what the latest reports are that he's apparently changing his ways. Yeah right. LOL

  19. Hey there Garret. Ah, I know how it is when a story gives ya fits. LOL. Just don't give up on it! :D

  20. Welcome to HNet! Two rooms?? Kewl!
  21. Welcome back dukefan, glad to see you posting here again!
