  1. You raise a very good question. We've always been pretty open and loose here. We do have RR rules, not strictly enforced tho'. I dunno, maybe we need to start strictly enforcing the rules now, many of which cover a lot of the issues we had in the past (that's why we came up with them. LOL). Or do we start monitoring the RR's and do this "Brick in the Wall" style (Pink Floyd song, with the spoken part toward the end.... "Wrong!! Do it again!! Wrong!! Do it again!!") and delete posts and say to folks "please rewrite, you can do better than that!" I dunno what the answer is. I think it all comes back to what these writers are looking for. Are they loooking for just a place to play amongst themselves and don't care about their audience, or do they wish to craft something enjoyable, for themselves and for those who read it? And craft it in format folks can read and follow.
  2. Cousin, you worded all that a hell of a lot better than I could have!
  3. Here we go again... Ok, folks, as this is a public forum it means any and all that you type or post is subject to criticism. My hope, of course, would be that it would be constructive criticism. I can understand boths sides of this arguement. I can understand the frustration from some folks, from all sides. I gotta admit y'all, I never envisioned the Round Robin thing would turn into such a beast. I've tried very hard to accomdate just about everybody. First we had the RR and RP debate. Then we had the Cannon Characters VS. Created Characters. Now we're back to our one-liner arguement again. I pose this question to our writers out there: Are you writing the paticular RR or RP because you and your friends are just looking to play and you don't care if anyone reads the silly thing, or are you looking to entertain an audience too? This is important. If you're simply doing and RR or RP for your own enjoyment then, if you like, I think I can go in and make it so that no one else in the world sees your RR or RP when they come to HazzardNet, only you and those who participate with it. (I have to test this so don't hold me to that just yet, but I know there's some options with the forum program). If you are considering your audience and hoping that perhaps you might be entertaining them with your story, then please do consider what is being said here. I know Cowboy is about as gentle as porcupine sometimes, but the gist of what I'm getting here is that he, and others, do want to read the stories and they all are pretty sure that folks out there have some very creative ideas and such. They also believe, as do I, that if you're serious about presenting your RR or RP in a good format (not a perfect format, just good enough for folks to follow a storyline) there are folks here who would be happy to help ya, I think. I posted previously about this, in this thread, with an example of what could be written instead of just a single line of dialouge. Show a little action too. It doesn't have to be graceful prose, nobody's asking for best selling novel material here. If you enjoy writing and creating stories and want to improve your mechanics, then please listen to what's being said here. Also remember this. As a writer, you open youself up to criticism every time you write something. Please, please, please, don't take any criticism of anything you write as a personal slam. I know it's hard because what you write may be personal to you. It's hard for me sometimes, I've experienced it a few times lately. But you have to be able to step back and say "ok, what's really being said to me here that's something I need to consider and is something I need to improve on." If somebody's just dumping on you because, like the example Daney gave, they don't like first person stories, that's not a constructive criticism. That's simply personal preference. Not once, in any of this discussion have I heard anyone say that they didn't like stories themselves, the plotlines and whathave you, that were bein' written. It's the structure they're having a hard time with. So, that brings me back to my fundamental question to the writers. Are you writing your RR or RP only for yourselves or do you wish to entertain an audience too? As this is a public forum, and thus you're wide open for anybody to stumble in and read the thing, (and subsequently offer critique) this is a very important question.
  4. Man, that is like a huge no-no in my book. Shame on the person for the false representation. If the real Taylor is aware of this, she should try to contact Facebook to have the false profile removed.
  5. Since our Fan of the Month became a pretty rousing success, once we got it going on a more regular basis (you know, like monthly) we figured we'd take a chance on selecting a Fan of the Year for 2009. Trying to pick a FAN OF THE YEAR is like asking Uncle Jesse to pick his favorite ear of corn out of the 40 acres they plant. Every ear of corn the Dukes grow is a work of art so it's a nearly impossible task. Never let it be said that the HazzardNet staff shies away from the impossible. After careful consideration (and a little bit of that spiked egg-nog that was being passed around at the HazzardNet Christmas party) we have selected B.L. Davenport as 2009's HazzardNet FAN OF THE YEAR! B.L. has been a great addition to the HazzardNet since she stopped by nearly four years ago. In 2009 she solidified her position on the HazzardNet as one of our most valued and prominent members. She recently recorded her 3,000th post and was selected as fan of the month for October while keeping herself busy covering a wide variety of forums and threads. Her contributions in 2009 have benefited everybody involved with the HazzardNet and we fell extremely lucky and blessed that she devotes so much of her time to this website. B.L.'s personality is one that comes straight out of Hazzard County. She has a genuine love of God, family, country and her HazzardNet community. It doesn't take long to review some of her posts to conclude that she is a wonderful and loving human being who has her priorities in order and cares about everyone in her life, including our family here. B.L. has been a fan of The Dukes of Hazzard her whole life and for good reason. She lives her life with the same values and ideals shared by the residents of Hazzard County. We have a lot of respect for her and appreciate all she has done to help make this a world class website that is followed by Dukes fans all over the world. Speaking for all of us, folks like B.L. make that world much better. So congratulations B.L. from all of us at HNet!
  6. What? What do you mean cut down on my cussin'? *$%@&! Heh heh! Okay, well maybe that's one I gotta work on. I have a few resolutions including writing a screenplay too. Also finish getting my Firebird all fixed up. Meantime, I wish everyone a Happy New Year and let's hope for good things in 2010!
  7. Merry Christmas to you too, Roger! I hope you have a great day. :)

  8. Which I've just posted up along with a story from Lizzy Jackson-Davenport called "Out of CB Range?" Merry Christmas everyone!!
  9. You forgot to mention the nightstick with my cuffs and uniform as part of my bad influence, Alex. :-P

  10. I flat out dee-ny that I am a bad influence. Completely and totally dee-ny it. I am, for a fact, a terrible influence. There's a difference.
  11. Oh that's right, I forgot she mentioned about chargin' two bucks to keep out the riff raff. Actually, what we oughta do is charge two dollahs to everyone to get in (regardless if they're riff raff or not). Where else can you find this kind of entertainment for two dollahs? "Two dollah cover charge folks! That's a lot of entertainment!" "For two dollars." "For two dollahs!" I think Boss would be proud. Khee! But since it's the holidays, we won't charge the two bucks. Still, it's a lot of enterainment you can get...for nothing. Khee!
  12. Me thinks the chat transcript at that point is gonna look like this. Please keep in mind that whatever happens will not be condoned by the staff of HNet. Instigated, maybe. But not condoned. Heh! Whatever happens in the Boar's Nest...is probably better off staying in the Boar's Nest!
  13. Oh we let anybody in the joint anyway as DaisyMae mentioned about letting Roger in and...well, heck, we let you in! Khee! Does that comment land me on the naughty list? LOL
  14. That's right, 6pm Eastern, which is 3pm for y'all over there on the West Coast. 11 pm for our English cousins. And the rest y'all in between will have to check your local listings. Khee!
  15. Thanks, Daney. Anybody else out there reading it by chance? Just a few more chapters to go until the end.
  16. I hate to even admit this, but at the same time I'm not all that sure of what happend, but given my Coltrane status around here, the odds are pretty darn good that the following happened: A couple months back, we did some major house cleaning here at the forums involving RRs and RPs and moving stories/RPs to the proper categories, ect. Well, in the course of doing so, some stuff got deleted and it's quite possible that story you're looking for was one of the unfortunate victims. I can't retrieve the story at this point and I apologize to those who worked on it. One of the rules in the RR section, or rather a suggestion anyway, is that anyone doing an RR should save the story offsite as well, in case something like this happens (ie, MaryAnne Has a Bad Day) and something gets lost or deleted. Again, my apologies to those who had worked on the story.
  17. You're welcome. I've got the page all set up with three stories so far. http://www.dukesofhazzardfanfic.com/SubmittedFanFic/christmas2009.html
  18. If any y'all write a Christmas story you can send it to me and I'll post them up at DOHFF.
  19. Bon jour! You know more English than I know French. LOL. Welcome to HNet!!
  20. MaryAnne

    Is it just me?

That's why I assumed it had not been a good experience. Gotta admit I'm curious too. LOL. And yeah, ya don't have to answer if you don't want to.
  21. That eggnog musta been potent stuff! Wait, was I at the Christmas shindig last year? I can't even remember... I musta drank the eggnog.
  22. Keeping in mind the various time zones everyone's in (all over the world. Khee!), why not just open the doors at 6 EST on the 23rd and have everyone come when they can? Keep the drinks on ice, cookies on the table and keep Rosco from eating it all and all should be good. Whoever's left at the end of the night to shut the place down will have to clean up and sweep the floor. Khee!
