  1. I can't believe how expensive gas has gotten! Before ya know it we'll be payin' a dollah...
  2. The Dukes and Rosco take part in an intense game of Hazzard County Automotive Bowling. Looks like Rosco's leading off with a strike already!!
  3. Time to resurrect this thread again. Khee! Rosco: You sure we ain't rushin' into things heah?
  4. As the grand marshall of the shindig, Rosco stood at the entrance to the hotel and welcomed everyone as they filed past him. "Khee! Welcome to the brand new Hazzard Hotel! Make sure you tell your friends and family that come for a visit to Hazzard to stay at the Hazzard Hotel!" Somebody in the crowd muttered, "Most of my friends and family already live in Hazzard..." MaryAnne snorted and then looked at her cousin as she passed him. She coulda swore she saw dollar signs in his eyes. "So, Rosco," she said. "You gonna leave the light on?" "What do you mean, leave the light on?" "Y'know, like Motel 6. We'll leave the light on for ya." "Oh. Ooo! Ya know, that ain't a bad idea..." MaryAnne grinned. "But this ain't no Motel 6," Rosco said. "This is the finest hotel in all of Hazzard County!" "Rosco. It's the only hotel in all of Hazzard County." "Khee! That's why it's the finest..." MaryAnne snorted and moved along with the crowd. Everyone gathered in the grand lobby where a hotel employee was standing and waiting. The young man smiled as he watched everyone oohin' and ahhin' about the lobby, with it's marble tile floor, potted palms and classic Victorian styled furniture. Everything was shiny and new yet was an acknowledgement to the building that had once stood in this spot. MaryAnne couldn't help but gaze around the lobby. "Wow..." (cue anyone!)
  5. MaryAnne smiled at B.L. "Howdy. Yeah, he sure did. Never figured Hazzard to have such a highclass lookin' place tho'." She looked up at the building shining like a diamond and then at B.L. "You headin' inside for the tour? I'm curious to see if the inside is as pretty as the outside. Khee!"
  6. MaryAnne Coltrane looked around the bustling square as she chewed on her fried dough and rubbed her fingers together over her paper plate to get the excess sugar off. Rosco was pulling out all the stops for this grand re-opening of the Hazzard Hotel. She had to admit the new building was beautiful, but she wondered if lil' ol' Hazzard really rated for having a four story hotel. Rosco musta confused four story for four star. Khee! She had no doubt the hotel would do business, but if he never made a dime on the place, he'd make up for it by the shindig that was taking place now. The square was full of people, decorations, concessions, kids running amok. It was a cheerful, carnival atmosphere, yes for a new hotel. Hazzard folk will celebrate anything. Of course, the cause of the fire that took the old building down remained suspicious even after a year. Most everybody just dismissed it as accidental. The building was old and the electrical was never brought up to current code. MaryAnne couldn't recall, however, if a cause of the fire had ever actually been determined. Nonetheless, a brand spankin' new building now stood in the spot where the old hotel had been. Hopefully, MaryAnne thought, it'll be here for another 100 years. Her fried dough eaten, MaryAnne deposited her empty plate into a nearby trash can and wiped her hands on a napkin. She then headed toward the hotel, curious to see if the inside was as grand as the outside. (cue anyone!)
  7. Hi Gracie, welcome to HNet! I reckon fried chicken would the perfect food item at any Dukes themed shindig.
  8. Way to go B.L.! I've posted this to the front page of HNet as well. Khee!
  9. Yeah I've been going through the RR's and I did purge some really old dormant stuff. I've moved threads too. Do any y'all remember what you titled the story?
  10. I wasn't able to access HNet either until about 10pm. I realized it was the server when I couldn't get to my blog, Brian's blog, a dozen of Mufn's other sites and whathaveya. LOL I will admit tho', not being able to check HNet was disparaging. You don't know how many times I hit that refresh button and would say to myself, "Why won't it load? Why won't it load?? WAAAHHH!!!" It was a long night. LOL
  11. Well, I scored a 17. Woulda been 18 but it's been more than a couple of weeks since I've watched a DOH episode. (Heck, it's been more than a couple of weeks since I've watched an ep. of anything. LOL) Dukefan, don't fret. There are some of us here in the states that have not met any of the cast or been to a Dukesfest. But we can still be SUPAHFANS of the Dukes! Roger...great quiz!
  12. We must have green guys roamin' around Hazzard. BL, your box is now green!
  13. Well ya gotta be good for it to be green. If it's red, you're in trouble. LOL I believe it is now green.... amazing how that does that. Khee! Looks like you're on a distinguished road there, dukefan.
  14. Well hey there Sheriff! Great to see you adding your voice to this discussion and I'm glad to hear ya agree! I dunno where we'd be without ya chiming in... Ah, Alex, I wouldn't get yer dander up. I'm not bothered at all if Sheriff thinks the administrators of this board bite. After all, I think Sheriff is a . In a nice way, of course.
  15. Well, BoJames, maybe we can get some of those old writers back! Especially some of the really old geezers like myself, Brian, Mufn, Alex, Val, pendragon, even Daney... It's been probably a good four or five years since any of the RRs we participated in were the fresh story going on the forums here. LOL. i1976 - you raise a very good question. (We don't kill anybody for questions. LOL). I see no reason why an RR can't be done with just the original cannon charactes from the show. Lemme think about how to address that issue (either by an adjustment of the rules or perhaps a seperate forum).
  16. Oooo! Lookin' forward to it Roger!
  17. It's the willingness to learn and grow, or rather the lack thereof, that seems to be the bigger issue. The particular RR you're referring to Daney was one that the partcipants all seemed to "get it." Yes, there were one line posts in that and I've said already that one line posts are not necessarily wrong. It's when it's CONSISTENTLY one line after one line after one line and there's little to no story developement, plot development or character development that we're having the issue with. That previous RR you're talking about, everyone who participated either was willing to learn, or was willing to teach. That's rare nowadays. I don't know how many times in various fanfiction circles I've seen people who write stories and when someone offers them constructive critique the writer immediately goes for the throat. They threaten to remove their stories or stop participating. They're super hyper sensitive to any critism and apparently have no desire to learn. For you biblical people out there, shall I cite Proverb 12:1? "Whoever loves instruction, loves knowledge. But he who hates correction is stupid." Therefore, anyone who gets in a huff when someone tries to kindly take them to point about something with their writing and isn't willing to listen or ponder the issue, and they yell and scream that they're gonna just leave and not finish their story...well I say good riddence! So long! Bye! Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!! And one more thing, tv and movie scripts are not written to be read. Scripts are instructions for filming. They include dialogue, yes, but also scene settings, camera angles and whatnot. How many of us actually read a tv or film script for recreational reading? I don't. I've never liked when someone does a fanfic and does it in "script" format. It's annoying to read "camera cuts to shot of General Lee, driving down the road. Camera cuts to Bo behind the wheel. Camera cuts to Luke in the passenger seat. Camera cuts to..." Ugh. Um, seriously? No. Apparently, HNet staff has been away from this place too long that our sense of humor is no longer appreciated.
  18. Yes it is. Infact the first three chapters are now posted at my site. http://www.dukesofhazzardfanfic.com/LisaFanfiction/index.htm Check it out!
  19. And that folks is a fine example of why we need to say no to one liners.... Here's another... I tried sniffing Coke once, but the ice cubes got stuck in my nose. Say NO to one liners...
  20. Done. I've made this the Official HNet Birthday Thread!
  21. Um....ahh....I think my head hurts.... LOL I think you're gonna have to try to explain to me again exactly what you're talkin' about dukefan. LOL. Do you mean like, you have a pic in an album on your profile and somebody comments on it and you wanna respond to their comment? You do just exactly what you did (post a comment). As for messaging....you mean the visitor messages? If you get a message from someone and you want to reply to them, you should click on their name, which will take you to their profile and you can leave them a visitor message in return. Does that make sense??
  22. Agreed. I should clarify as well that I'm no expert on writing either, but I've been around the internet long enough, I've been writing long enough and I've seen enough of other fandoms and sites to know what works and what doesn't. An additional note, I've amended the Story Ideas/Fics in Progress section to also say Collaborative Efforts. As I'm sure y'all can tell I've been cleaning out the RR section here and moving fics over to the Collaborative Efforts section. Just so y'all know, the redirects will be good for a month and then will fall off. I also want to add that I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this so far and that things have remained constructive and civil. LOL. Thank ya.
  23. Your "Wanted" story really should be in the Fics in Progress section, if you're not allowing anyone else to post to it. Sorry. LOL. I probably shouldn't make an exception as I've allowed exceptions all this time and this is why we're in the mess we're in! I'm going to move the thread and leave a temporary redirect. Meantime, to add to what Mufn said, yes our forums program has a lot of tools that we can use to exercise our rights as citizens and vote. LOL. There's the Rate Thread feature, there's also the reputation feature. If really feel that somebody's post to a story was inconsistent with the story line or totally offbase, (or you think it was brilliant!) you can approve or disapprove with the post and also comment on it. At the top of each person's post, on the right hand side, there's the number of the post and then there's a little scale of justice next to that. Click on that and drop down box will show. Simply click either you approve or disapprove and you can type a comment (optional). The reputation thing is what causes the black/green/red boxes that some people have. You can imagine the red boxes are not good. LOL Also, again like Mufn said, don't be afraid to tell us admins what's going on or if you're not happy with something. If we don't know, we assume everything's hunky dory and then when we find out it's not it could be too late. We don't want that. We wanna keep HNet an enjoyable place for y'all and there's no reason that a few bad apples should be ruinin' if for everyone else.
  24. I dunno what happend dukefan but it's showing now!
