    Charlie Daniels

Sorry to hear about Charlie's passing, Roger. I know he was a big favorite of yours, although I didn't know (or possibly remember) that you'd been lucky enough to meet him three times. Until I joined HNet, I only knew Charlie for 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia', but now I know a few more of his songs. It's a shame that the music forums have gone quiet, because I used to enjoy being introduced to songs and artists that I didn't previously know. Here's two of your favorites, Roger: Charlie Daniels - (What This World Needs Is) A Few More Rednecks Charlie Daniels - Simple Man
  2. Here are some screengrabs of the square: The episode has some other Dukes connections. Obviously Lynda Carter was in the 2005 movie. The cast also includes Tim O'Connor who was Thackery in 'Bad Day in Hazzard' and Doris Dowling who was Stacy Williams in 'Treasure of Hazzard' and Jenny in 'Go West, Young Dukes'. This Wonder Woman episode originally aired on February 2, 1979, which was the same day as the premiere of the second Dukes episode, 'Daisy's Song'.

Can I ruin a good NASCAR thread by saying that I'm looking forward the F1 season finally starting this weekend?
  4. The video below has clips of that Wonder Woman episode interspersed with commentary on it. That's definitely Hazzard Square. I spotted the courthouse, gazebo and the street with Boss' house in the short bits that I watched. As an aside, a place I used to work had a customer named Linda (with an "i") Carter who I mainly dealt with on the phone. I eventually met her, and she wasn't wearing the outfit!
  5. One of the bad guys, Harry Ray, was played by Royce D. Applegate. He was also a bad guy in a episode of CHiPs that I watched recently. The same episode also featured Dawn Jeffory who played Natasha in the season 5 Dukes episode 'Comrade Duke'. Royce D. Applegate had to wait until season 7 to return to Hazzard when he played the insurance adjuster in 'Enos and Daisy's Wedding'.

  8. When talking to Rosco, Boss regularly refers to Lulu as his "fat sister", but Hortense is referred to as Lulu's "skinny sister". I don't think I've ever noticed that Rosco was left out of the relationship with Hortense. You learn something new about Dukes every day! Another highlight of this episode is the mid-air patrol car crash.
  9. For those of you who've forgotten, Avery Schreiber was Wendel in 'Double Sting'. Another familiar name came up at the end of the episode above: "Produced and Directed by Rod Amateau". Rod also produced and directed several episodes of Dukes, and even appeared as Manny in 'Repo Men' - one of only two acting credits.
  10. Here you go, Roger, this is the first episode:
  11. As your Unofficial Companion will tell you, Cathy was actually away filming Circus of the Stars. This episode also contains the great Waylon line, "Friends, don't it make you kind of feel sorry for folks coming to Hazzard thinking it's just like any other place?"
  12. I sat down to watch Dukes this evening, and it wasn't in the schedules. I wondered if it had been pulled, but the channel's Facebook page says they only had the rights to the first three seasons. I hope they get the other four, or at least repeat the first three.
  13. I never realized that his suitcase had a name, Roger. Sorry, it just reminded me of this joke from 'Mary Poppins':
  14. For a moment I thought you were quoting 'The Breakfast Club', but then I remembered that that's "You forgot ugly, lazy and disrespectful."

I hadn't even noticed that the passenger door was open, Roger! I eventually worked out that the chrome strip is an end-on view of the frame of the vent window.

F1 used to issue numbers to the teams rather than the drivers - two per team, with each team having two identical cars. Over the years, the numbers got smaller as the advertising space became more valuable. At one point it was pretty much only possible to tell the difference between team mates by their helmets. Then, it was decided to let drivers choose a permanent number to build a brand around (e.g. Lewis Hamilton has Team 44), and to increase the visibility of the numbers. The latest cars have a number on each side near the rear wing and another on the nose. Obviously, F1 cars don't have doors, so the numbers will never be as big as NASCAR. It'll still be strange seeing NASCAR with no large door numbers. Imagine the General with no numbers on the doors - it's just wrong!

Max Verstappen got his FIA Super Licence, which allowed him to compete in Grands Prix, when he was 17. He didn't get his road licence until he was 18, and even then he was too young to rent a hire car!

  20. Thanks for posting that, MM. For anyone who's interested, I think John's standing about here. The curve on the road as seen in the video is now wider than the one in the 2011 Google image that I linked to (and therefore the one seen in the show). John has started answering fans' questions about Dukes on his YouTube channel, although for some reason he seems to like filming them mainly in portrait mode and just after he's done a workout. So far he's talked about how long each episode took to film, what he thought of the reunion movies (and the 2005/2007 movies), and who drank real beer at the Boar's Nest. Back in November, he also answered what he consider to be the top 10 Dukes of Hazzard questions of all time. I doubt that it contains many surprises for the folks here on HazzardNet.

We've mentioned a couple of historically famous non-NASCAR drivers recently, so I thought I'd share a quote from another that I heard last night. Juan Manuel Fangio dominated the early years of F1, winning the World Drivers' Championship five times in the first decade. Here's his quote: "Driving fast on the track does not scare me. What scares me is when I drive on the highway I get passed by some idiot who thinks he is Fangio."
  22. Hoggominiums were mentioned when Boss wanted to build Hogg's Happy Hacienda on the site of Cooter's Garage in 'Hughie Hogg Strikes Again' in season 4.
