Well y'all car 24 was back in Victory Lane after today's COTA road race. Too bad Jeff Gordon wasn't driving it. He use to be known as the road race king as he was good at them. But so is William Byron, who now drives the 24 car for Hendrick. Still great to see 24 car in Victory Lane. (Though I was hoping for the 9 car. Elliott needs to figure something out...LOL)

I didn't bother writing a report for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix two weeks ago because although there were a few good fights down the field, it finished as another Red Bull 1-2. I will give a special mention to Oliver Bearman who was a last minute stand-in for Ferrari and finished seventh in his first ever grand prix at just 18 years old.

Today's race was the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Max Verstappen claimed another pole, but was overtaken Ferrari's Carlos Sainz on the second lap. Max suffered a rare technical failure two laps later and had to retire his Red Bull when one of his rear brakes caught fire. Lewis Hamilton also retired at nearly one third distance when his Mercedes engine failed. His team mate George Russell crashed on the last lap leaving Mercedes pointless in Australia. Carlos Sainz went on to win the race with his team mate Charles Leclerc in second, followed by the McLarens of Lando Norris and local hero Oscar Piastri in third and fourth. Sergio Perez could only manage fifth in the second Red Bull. Carlos Sainz's victory was even more impressive because he missed the last race with appendicitis.

Not long after Jesse sat on the log Bo sat on the General's hood. The other three stood. 
Bill was visibly shaken. "Now, I appreciate you boys explaining that everybody in Hazzard knows Boss is a crook and nobody will take these charges seriously."
The 3 Dukes nodded and Jesse muttered "Yep". 
After a pause Bill continued. "But things are different out in the big 'ol world. Most law enforcement agencies have good folks running them so naturally whenever someone is arrested people draw assumptions." 
Bo chimed in, "Well Mr. Elliott, folks is presumed innocent until proven guilty. That there is a genuine US of A right." 
It was Luke's turn. "You're right about that Bo but that doesn't always match reality. Here everybody knows that most folks who Rosco arrests were set up by Boss Hogg and are most likely innocent. But in places where the law is respectable, most folks assume a person doesn't get arrested unless they deserve it." 
Ernie added, "Including the press. I can just hear them now, all shocked that Bill Elliott is a two bit thief." 
Bill looked real nervous now. "Just the very accusation could end my career. Even if it comes out later it was a set up. There's folks out there who just never forget things.....even if they should. I know what will happen. They will claim I'm guilty but bought my way out of it." 
Jesse tried to reassure him. "I wouldn't worry quite yet. If Boss is trying to shake you down for money he'll want to keep this as low key as possible. It can still be contained. We just have to turn this ship around."

It is a bit surprising that they never had a Boss Hogg niece with one of the Duke boys falling for her. Maybe they thought about it but since they did Daisy falling for a Hogg didn't want to do it.

It very well might be. I've noticed one of....I say ONE of the things happening to me as I get older, ( 58 yrs. going on 59...Aug. 31)  is that I can't keep past things in order and how far back it was!   ( And NO! It's not because of my indulgence every so often of my finest!  )

This is what I wrote while waiting for someone to come back to their car. I am stuck on the here comes chaos part. Both Rosco and Cletus are in the holding cell with the door shut. This is where the Duke boys “bail” Ponch and Jon out of jail.
 “You ok cousin?” asked Jon “Yeah it's my ribs,”  said Ponch. “Can he put his right arm down? He broke his ribs a few months ago” Jon said to Deputy Cletus.
  “Uh, Jon you mean most of my bones.” Poncherello retorted as they walked into the station's booking area where Bo and Luke were paying their “Speeding” ticket that Rosco gave them. [Here comes Chaos] They are runnin’ out the door and split up Jon and Bo in Jon's truck and Luke and Ponch in the General Lee. Bo said “Hi, Cooter” “Hey Cooter, the usual OK,” said Luke “OK Luke,” Cooter said with a smile knowing what he was going to find there.

I watched the bristol race and I guess I'm in the minority thinking it was a lousy race. Tires barely lasted 40-45 laps and it seems only JGR teams could manage it leaving everyone else a few seconds behind trying to conserve tires. Goodyear and NASCAR even gave all the teams an extra set of tires. You know maybe it's time NASCAR allowed a full day of practice again to suss out stuff like this so they know ahead of time what might become an issue.

I heard that tires were an issue at Bristol. Which is frustrating for everyone and it affects the driver's season and points. As someone pointed out that I saw...what if this were a Chase race or an elimination race and it all came down to tires? I really miss the old way of racing where it was about talent and the drivers and teams. I feel NASCAR has to put it's hands on everything now to take away from the driving and the mechanics...the Chase and the segments for example. Let it be about the racing as it use to be...
